Wooooo hooooo am I chuffed. Reading are promoted to the Premier League tonight after beating Nottingham forest 1-0 and West Ham drawing.

Ive been a fan since the late 60's and remember many a time freezing my wotsits off with my Dad at Elm Park in the 3rd/4th division days. Oh how times change. Back in to the top flight after four years out. Hope the new Russian owner gets his wad out because we will need some good players to help us stay up.

Off now to have a small drink on the boys.

Here we go, here we go, here we go............... :woot:

I'll get my congratulations in before we're shunted off to the Manchester United love-in of the Football thread.

Sadly I fear West Ham won't be joining you, as we've thrown away too many chances to lock out games we should have won.

Good to see Reading back in the prem, I can't see west ham getting through the play offs.
I'd love to see Blackpool back up there for the entertaining football they play

I think there are more non Man U fans in here than Man U. Anyway, see post #680 above, even if I did type Wigan instead of West Ham. :bonk:

I'm looking forward to ringing my manager at 8 in the morning just to see if he had a good time tonight at Madjeski :D evil grin

Bloody West Ham, they're so infuriating. Can't see them winning the playoffs either.

Congrats to Reading though. Fantastic run towards the end too! (courtesy of the beeb)

Just back from Inverness in time for Chelsea v Barcelona

Hoping for a good Chelsea performance tonight.

TBH I don't normally want Chelsea to win but I've glad they've scored, Barca are a big bunch of cheaters.

".....and Drogbah rises magestically - to his feet"

LOL Classic line.

This is weird. I'm watching the Barça game on Canal 9. There are 2 commentators; one speaks one language, the other speaks another.

Good result for Chelsea (Fabregas was the difference between the two sides tonight LOL) if only they could have took that chance at the end and made it 2:0.

I think they'll still have a hard time in the 2nd leg with a 1:0 lead but you never know.

Arsenal have won 70% of their games where Arteta has played and just 14% of their games without him. These last few games are going to be tough and honestly, with Arteta ruled out, I really don't hold out much hope for holding onto the 3rd spot this season. :(

It's a shame really because he's a great midfielder but you know in a side that has Fabregas on the bench often there's an incredible level of competition for places.

Definitely

Doh

Saints beaten by Dundee United

Imagine if Newcastle finish 4th and very much deserve the CL playoffs. But Chelsea win the CL and stay 6th or 5th. That would have to be the unluckiest outcome ever for Newcastle.

Walcott out for the rest of the season with a hamstring problem. I suppose it gives chamberlain the opportunity to see more pitch time which is what the fans have been crying out for but despite the criticism Walcott comes under, I'm a huge fan of his and think he'll be missed along with Arteta which was another big loss. I just hope we don't lose grip on 3rd. We need all 12 points from the last 4 games otherwise I'm sure spurs will nick it. I just can't see them slipping up.

I think for the time being we have to assume that Chelsea will win the CL and play as though there's only 3 CL spots up for grabs. If we think settling for 4th wouldn't be the end of the world then it could be disastrous!

The results spurs are getting right now I'd be surprised if they even get 4th. It's newcastle you should be concerned about.

As the son of two geordies, if there's any team i'd be willing to lose out to it's Newcastle :D

Great result! Somewhat higher hopes for survival now. With our last game at home in 2 weeks against Stoke, a win there may well be enough so anything from Chelsea or Man City would be a bonus and I reckon we'll get at least a point from those.

If only we'd started doing this earlier, we'd be in mid table mediocrity by now! :D

Delighted to see the qpr score! Tough games ahead but they're in the strongest position possible for survival now.

Mid table - we're top of the league (well the red card one)

our goal difference may save us, but I have a feeling we may need 4 points, which means beating Stoke at home and getting a point at City or Chelsea (a big ask from the team with the worst away record but you never know!)

It's so tight it's amazing - the last 15 minutes today were quite tortuous, but anoher great game for us at LR. One more like that and we 'may' be good - I still think out best chance is Bolton losing their games as opposed to us winning lots. If we do beat Stoke, it would mean Blackburn would need to win 2 and at least draw the other (assuming we lost to Chelsea and city) so be above us - a big ask but again not impossible. Wigan I think will stay up and they are of course playing Blackburn - so clearly neither can get maximum points.

Anyway, too many permutations, but I think if we get 4 points from 3 games we will be safe, if we get 3 it will be interesting!

Whether you love or hate him, I think we can all agree that the best manager in the world must be Jose Mourinho. Won domestic titles in Portugal, England, Italy and now Spain, well, almost. Did a very good job at Chelsea, Won the CL at Porto and Inter, and could still win it with Madrid this year... I for one would love to see him back I'm the premier league, and would say that whoever he took over would win the league that year.

Why Messi dominates the headlines when Ronaldo is playing so well is beyond me, if arsenal could sign one of the, it would be Ronaldo for me.

Messi does seem to be a bit of a media darling. I think in general Barcelona get better press that Real regardless. As for Jose Mourinho - I know there's been talk of him following Alex Ferguson at United but I guess it will depend on when Fergie calls it a day. Jose could be looking for a job sonner rather than later and if he goes to City that could rule him out of a job at United. I sort of like him and loathe him but he's one manager that I'd like to see at OT rather than somewhere else. He's done the whole 'mega money' thing before and I just wonder if this whole thing about who could follow Fergie might just be a different sort of challenge his ego would thrive on. What would concern me though is his defensive mindset as that goes against what United have always done.

Anyway

The old nerves are jangling again today. Not lost to Everton at Old Trafford for 20 years but I'm a bit nervy about this one.

Who are you supporting today Joe (besides Liverpool) out of Everton or United ?

Today I am hoping for a Liverpool win obviously. And an everton man u draw. That would put us back above everton and make man u lose 2 points as long as city can win.

That would be ideal. If not then man u to beat everton as I don't want them to win and get 3 points.

Is Ashley young starting today? If so I'll get the score cards ready. I wonder want odds I can get on man u getting at least 1 penalty today.

I hope Young plays Joe - an early penalty would be handy. I think I'd heard that Nani may start instead though.

I'm sure you'll get at least one non penalty. It's at old Trafford afterall. You shouldn't have any issues beating everton. They were easy enough to sweep aside last weekend.
