The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

A candid street style Snap captured a guy sitting quietly on the ground against a pillar at Trafalgar Square, sketching.
I've deliberately tried to get a film look to this presentation by lowering the detail and adding some grain.

Like this very much.
Always drawn to geometric ellements of a photo and the simplicity adds to it...also on a different level it pleases me to see a young person sketching instead of pointing a phone...patronising of me I know, but I'm 66 and allowed to be. (y)

Notes on the Q2 monochrom

1) increased sensitivity (no colour filter array) - cleaner high ISO
2) increased DR - about a stop, now on same level as Q3
3) when a highlight is blown it’s properly blown - no recovery possible (without AI)
4) can’t add colour filters in post - as there is no colour info for the software to work with, so colour filters have to be real physical ones on front of lens
5) most noise reduction software won’t work as it needs colour information
6) images are sharper as the spatial accuracy is better due to no Bayer interpolation

It’s a huge step change from X100VI and will force you to get more right in camera.

Mono conversions from the regular Q2 aren’t exactly shabby. I considered it to run alongside the GFX but ultimately felt that the Q3 would suit my needs better
Thanks David I knew about 10% of that. It one of those that the idea has always appealed but unless I won the lottery it's never going to happen. I do like the option to shoot either colour or black and white.

In which case I would suggest that the Q3 is the one to aim for, it’s incremental upgrades over the Q2 all add up to a better package, but the Q2 could be seen as a stepping stone to get there.

But even a pre-loved Q3 is a £2500 upgrade to an X100VI - that’s an awful lot of bread!!!

Try the Q2 and see what you think……

Looking in to a lot more I think your right. If I get a Q2 after a few weeks I be looking at ways to upgrade to a Q3 .
Going to arrange a day out with my friend so I can try the Q2 and go from there.
Thanks for all the help.

Many thanks Graham, much appreciated. (y)

The X100f had a wobble today at Llyn Idwal.....

Switched on to use it and OVF wouldn't work, no focus box, loads of options blanked out in the menu plus probably some other things. Battery removal for a while didn't work. Shooting menu reset seemed to do the trick in the end. But by then, the ⅓ battery had gone to virtually nothing and I didn't have any spare :ROFLMAO:

It didn't matter thought, we were here the other day and I had the Yashica Mat 124g with me anyway :)

That’s not good, I had something similar on my X100F a couple of times, switching between OVF/EVF, a power cycle recovered it

Lots of greyed out menu options suggests it might have gone into video mode (somehow), don’t know how the OVF works in video (if at all)

Yeah, very strange. First time I've ever had any issues with it. The front lever wasn't doing anything - when I switched it on and held it up to my eye the EVF popped up, I very very rarely shoot EVF. Then noticed certain things greyed out. It was okay afterwards for the little battery I had left.

I have just had notification that my silver x100vi has arrived, ready for Saturday collection.

Can you please link to the must have accessories required to enhance my shooting experience,TIA.

Thumb grip. And a nice leather strap to make you look good carrying it around

I also use a "mist" filter which for me, is a must have.

As it happens I found the filter adapter ring and mist filter from my X100vi yesterday, will throw it in classifieds today or tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone who offered their help with upgrading my X-T2 to the new body and recommending lenses for aeroplanes, I went ahead and got a lovely used combination from Ffordes. Since they are located near Inverness and I’m in Aberdeen, I’ve taken a drive up this afternoon and picked it all up in person. Very nice camera shop. The camera was on firmware 1.02, and it has only done about 10,000 photos, barely worn in.IMG_6515.jpeg
I have an X-T4 and the 100-400, it works well for aviation photography for me. These are from Duxford last week:

EDIT: they look pretty soft on here. Have a look at my Flickr though to see them in better resolution.

Excellent, congrats!

What are people’s thoughts on starting a dedicated recipe thread ?
My thoughts are.
1/ keeps them all in one place
2/ people who are not interested don’t have to see them.
3/ it will make them easier to find if you have seen one you like in the past

Seems like a good idea to me. It's not as if one more thread will break the forum, and as you said: if people aren't interested they don't need to look at it.

Good idea. Maybe even a sub section from the Fuji main one, if it gets busy enough.
I don't use mine too often, but like to play around with them (now I know how to save the bloody things) ;)

I don't use them tbh

I just have the X100f set up and use the same one all the time :ROFLMAO:

Genuine Fuji battery ?

Got an email from DxO saying PureRaw 5.3 and DeepPRIME XD3 now supports X-trans sensors. Anyone already got it and tired? Wondering if worth the upgrade cost.

Can you humour me guys, I pick up my x100vi in the morning.

Can everyone who has one post a picture so that I can see how you’ve blinged yours up.

Cheers.

This was my 100s when I had it back in the day. Leather half case, wrist strap and tele lens converter.

PureRAW has supported X-Trans for some time, this release is claiming to be a significant upgrade. I've been using ver 3 and ver 4 with X-Trans file sto good effect. I don't use it on all files just some of them, and it certainly makes a good job of higher ISO files, it can get a bit excited with 'greens' but this can be adjusted further in Lightroom (or similar)

The boys did ok for my 60th, without any prompting.
The oldest got me a £75 printing voucher.

My twins investigated photographic accessories and got me an Urth 3 in 1 filter kit. Managed to check my most used lens filter size without me knowing and got the right one

I will probably get a 1/8 mist to go with it.

Congrats on your 60th! :)

I was working in Aberdeen again this week. I haven't gone through my photos yet, but on the way back I stopped in Newark to have a look at the new "On Freedom's Wings" sculpture which has been all over the internet this week... weirdly, considering the publicity, it's not actually open yet, d'oh! The security guard very kindly let me take a photo before I left. This is quite cropped, as I didn't have any zooms with me. X-T4 and Viltrox 56mm F/1.7 Air.

Has anyone had their hands on a Viltrox 56mm f1.2 PRO yet?
I see there is 15% off on the Viltrox store (so £450 rather than £530).
I haven't, but I've heard it's very sharp. My 56mm Air is pretty impressive (see above), so I'm guessing the 1.2 is like a razor :)

I want to get myself a convertor...but most of the used one out there are silver, not black!

I have taken off the half letter case off mine and put on this wooden grip and added a square hood from YC Onion that comes with a metal square cap.

(Totally less practical from a compact stand point but I kept touching the lens without a hood before in the name of compact and need to constantly wiping it. This actually makes the shooting process faster because I never accidentally touch the lens.)

Advice guys, just unboxed my x100vi and the below is the image I get when the camera is turned off. Is that usual, does anyone know what it is?

When camera turned on it obviously opens… Do I send it back?
