The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Oh and I have PD slide and think it's a bit big,Slide Lite more suitable do you think?
I use a slide lite on my T5. Seems just about perfect (for me). Had a slide on the H1, but found it a little bit big for the T5.

Struggling to get camera to link with phone, was OK this morning installed an update earlier and now can't seem to pair??
Any advice appreciated

Considering upgrading my X-T2, I’ve been all over the place with options including moving away from Fuji.

In the last year I’ve started to really try get into aviation photography. I’ve got the XC 50-230mm as a start but it’s not long enough.

The C-AF on my ageing X-T2 is just too slow for what I’m trying to achieve, especially as more modern cameras have dedicated AF capabilities for subjects that include planes.

I’ve been watching lots of videos on the, XH2, XH2S and T-5. It seems the H2S has the best AF of any Fuji with its stacked sensor but the X-T5 and X-H2 have more resolution.

I’d be looking at a new 70-300 or a used 100-400.

What are people’s experiences of aviation photography with these body and lens combinations? I’d really like sharper, better focused images.

My Fuji kit is just an X100f - my main kit is Sony - so I can't really help tbh. But there are a few on here with kit for, and experience of, aviation & motorsport etc so I'm sure you'll get some advice soon :)

I have an X-T4 and the 100-400, it works well for aviation photography for me. These are from Duxford last week:

EDIT: they look pretty soft on here. Have a look at my Flickr though to see them in better resolution.

I went X-T2 to X-H2S for motorsports and action sports, mainly for the improved autofocus. For me resolution was not really a concern, 24/26MP seems like a sweet spot for me. The speed and autofocus performance of the X-H2S is much better than the X-T2, but I do not notice much improvement of image quality, outside of the the number of in focus shots. When I first tried the X-H2S I was a bit underwhelmed, as I used it with the 55-200mm lens. Autofocus is much better with the 50-140mm. You also need to consider the added cost of the CFExpress cards/reader.

Before I tried the X-H2S I really wanted the stacked sensor in the X-T5 body, but having used the X-H2S, I like the handling, especially with the bigger lenses.

I'd be grateful for your opinions as I'm out of the loop with other than FF lenses and trying to decide which to go for - a nice problem to have!

The kit X-T5 seems to come with the options of body only, 16-50 f2.8-4.8, 16-80 f4. The longer reach is appealing on 16-80 but so is the f2.8 on the 16-50, unless I am mistaken it is a crop of x1.5 ?

I'm very likely to get either the 23mm or 27mm 2.8 early on - looks to be good as a street/travel lens - so I guess looking for a kit interim with a bit more reach.

One last question - what is the 55-200 like? It seems too economically priced for quality.

Thanks.

The Fuji camera is a crop of 1.5, so a 16-50mm is a 24-75mm in FF terms

The XF55-200 is a good lens, under-estimated IMO but since its an early lens, it is not recommended for optimal IQ with the 40MP sensor

Has anyone used or using one of the combined 1/4 black mist & cpl filters? Any good or is a case of me fancying another gadget :D

I have the Shortstache Everyday filter (I think @LeeRatters has similar). To be honest I ve not used it much - should try it more - it certainly works

Give me to the end of the weekend and I can set up some comparison photos (assuming weather allows); No filter, Tiffen 1/4 Bkack ProMist and Shortstache Everyday

Graham, Test shot(s) of part of my home office desk (complete with clutter). Parts of the image are into the highlight clipping, deliberate so any 'blooming' will be noticed

All images taken on Leica Q3 43 (equiv tp 28mm on Fuji) and are SOOC, focussed on near edge of glass drinks mat.

What I noticed:-

1) How much softer the Tiffen Black ProMist is!! Never noticed this as much on my X100F (obviously 24MP compared with Leica 60MP)
2) How the Polariser deepened the blue on the drinks mat and reduced inspections
3) How the ISO changed, with the same 'other' camera settings - 1000 no filter, 1250 for the Tiffen and a whopping 4000 for the Shortstache. Rotating the Shortstache to reduce polarisation only reduced the ISO to 3200

Consider also the Tamron 17-70 f2.8. Cracking lens in my opinion.

I have the 16-80 and imo it's an excellent lens, I like it a lot. I've read lots of people saying that it's soft, but that's not been my experience of it at all. It's not too heavy and that extra bit of reach is very handy. The image stabilisation is fantastic as well.

Thanks David very helpful. Really surprised how little the iso dropped with the Shortstache with the polarisation reduced. More thinking required I think.

It’s only a 2 stop increase on full polarisation, so if shooting at 100 it would be 400, I’d expect a polariser to be 1-2 stops normally.

I was more surprised by the Tiffen softness on the Q3 43 - obviously it’s a greater pixel density than my X100F was, but it really wasn’t that noticeable on the Fuji

Fair point. You would assume the Tiffen is a decent quality filter as well.

Viltrox 56mm f1.2 pro lens available in x mount. Looks very decent and cheaper than the Fuji

If the 27 pro is anything to go by, it'll be a good one. Maybe not super fast AF though.
