That’s a good price for the 50, I like mine a lot. Had an xt4 but didn’t get on with it.
I do tend to use my early mk1 Fujis more but that is just personal preference.
The 50 will give you good sooc pictures and has the advantages of being a more modern camera.
 
I love when you develop a film you get a picture of the film. The more I use it the more I enjoy it.

Here is another capture from my run of street shots with the X100V during a recent family trip to London. I must stress, I am new to street photography, but I did really enjoy it once I became a little more comfortable getting in close to try and grab a shot. I spotted this lady walking quite fast paced towards me whilst looking around for someone/something?
I liked the lane behind her and tried to capture her the best I could whilst she was in her moment.

Any comments/critique are welcome.
Shot in raw and edited in PP.
f8 aperture, zone focussed in manual focus.

Is it an in camera square crop jpeg? If not I'd like to see all of the folks on the steps, and maybe lighten them a bit.
Then it would make a great triangulation with the lads on the walkway.
I would then raise my rateing from "Great" to "Fab". :cool:

@Moey I agree withy this, in addition, I would add:-

You've chopped the lead characters feet off, this does not look like an intentional crop and its not in a 'good' place, try to either include the feet or make a more intentional (higher up crop), but in this case you wanted to show the phone, so I would have preferred the feet!

The whole image is a little dark for my liking, I think that the exposure coudl be pushed a little to bring out the lads on the steps (in shadow) more, to make that 'triangle'. The sky could take the exposure push as its not the main focus of the image.

But if you are new to street then you are on the right lines :)

As he wrote, the photo was taken in RAW format. Although RAW photos cannot be cropped in-camera, Lightroom displays them as if they had been. Resetting the picture reveals the full image.
 
Hi guys. Haven't posted at TP for ages. I've recently become seriously interested in buying a Fujifilm camera and having done a bit of research on various models, I think the X100vi is the one for me. I think I'll go for the silver as all my cameras are black and I really like the way Fuji looks with the silver trims and the silver lens hood which I think I have to buy separately. The biggest reason for this model is the leaf shutter since I use flash. My Ricoh is leaf shutter so I can use my flash at any shutter speed, but there's no viewfinder. My Sony has a viewfinder but no leaf shutter so I can only sync flash at 1/160 and I'd need a high speed sync flash which I think are generally a bit big compared to my flash.

I've been using the Ricoh for a couple of years or so now and it's great, but I do feel I frame more accurately (without cutting hands and feet off!) with a viewfinder. The only downside for me is the 35mm equivalent lens. I'm so used to 28mm equivalent, that's my preferred focal length. I'm guessing I can get used to 35mm though.

If I stand a bit further back to get more in the frame that should kind of mimic 28mm shouldn't it? Also, I know Fuji is well known for its colours. Is that just when using jpegs? I shoot in raw and do basic editing on lightroom, will I still see a difference in colours from say my Ricoh and Sony? Finally, the general price seems to be £1599. I've seen it on e-infinity for £1499. That's where I bought my Sony a few years ago. Is that still the go to place or is there any chance of buying it even cheaper somewhere else?

It's really about the Jpegs when it comes to colour.

The X100vi prices still seem to be holding because of supply vs demand. Retailers still seem to be generally short of stock so you may have to wait to get one after ordering.

I personally wouldn't be tempted to buy a grey market product with that price difference - I'd be inclined pay the extra and get official UK supplied stock and UK warranty. But that also assumes you can actually get a UK version in reasonable time frame.

If you really want 28mm you could add the WCL to the X!00VI, this will make it slightly bulkier but doesn't increase the weight by much. This would give you 28mm (ish) and the leaf shutter. Short of going to a Leica Q series camera this is the 'only' way you will get internal EVG/OVF and 28mm in a compact leaf shutter camera.

So you could try the regular X100VI and if you feel after use that you really need 28mm, then add the WCL

I would echo @Dryce comment about the X100VI prices, since lauch it has remained an in-demand camera, and stock levels are still tight with dealers. For £100 I too would buy UK sourced, but YMMV.

On the colours question, if you shoot raw, you do still get access to Adobe’s copies of Fuji’s profiles within lightroom. You can also choose a profile in camera at point of shooting and have lightroom pull that through in the raw file. So if you shoot something in raw, red filter acros for example then import to LR, the image in LR will start off in acros R. It’s not 100% the same as shooting jpeg and you don’t get things like grain effect or tone control pulling through but it’s a good work around if just want to shoot raw but get some benefit from Fuji’s colour sims.
 
So is anyone else from here going to Fujikina? I've booked a photowalk with Carl on the 21st, thought at the very least it'll be a nice day out and a chance to look at some new cameras (none of which I intend on buying!).
There were a few walks I really fancied going on, but they were all fully booked.

Thank you for your suggestions. I shot these in both jpeg and raw, this one is from the edited raw file. You know, I didn't even consider the triangulation when I edited it, in fact, the other folks in the image bothered me so much so, that I did consider a tighter crop to get rid of the two on the left. However, I will take your suggestions and revisit the raw file, then repost it. Oh, the reason why the two on the left are slightly darker may be due to the slight vignetting that I added to take focus away from them, or at least, attempt to :) Thank you, I appreciate the feedback.

I will revisit the raw to see if the feet existed in the original image, I can't quite remember, though I seem to think that I may have missed them out, unintentionally though as I really rushed to the spot when I saw the lady walking down and didn't hit the composition quite right. I will make a higher crop of I don't have the feet. I darkened the shot in post to try and work with a vignette without the vignette being too emphasized, but I will knock it up a touch. If I remember, I did bring the exposure up slightly on her face to bring that out a touch.

Thanks for both of your suggestions, I'm going to have a look at it now and I'll be back to repost. :)

As stated elsewhere, the WCL is what you need here - it's small and doesn't impact image quality. The only difference between the first and second versions of it is the addition of a small magnet to allow the camera to automatically detect when the wide or tele converters are attached, so if you are getting one, you can buy the first gen and add the magnet yourself!

I have re-edited the image. The original raw has a lot of empty space to the right, so ideally, I had plenty of scope to compose the shot better and include the people on the stairs to the left by including more on the left in the frame than the right. That said, it was a quick shot and my focus was the lady as the main subject as her mannerism caught my interest. I have taken both of your suggestions on board, removed the half person that was on the stairs in the original shot, raised the overall exposure, removed the vignette and cropped in tighter on the lady so the crop looks more intentional? I think your suggestions have improved from the original, so thank you for your input. :) DSCF9173re-edit.jpg

I think that's a really good point paying the extra £100 in order to get a valid UK warranty, so yes, I'll skip a grey import this time. I watched a youtube review the other day where the reviewer had bought the silver version and had to return it under warranty because the silver paint on the hotshoe was peeling off. So yeah, if I was unlucky enough for something like that to happen it'd be best to have a warranty.

I've just pre-ordered one in silver from Park Cameras and they say they've got their next batch of X100vi being delivered first week of September. They'll call me when it's in and hopefully they'll have a silver one. Meanwhile, I'm told the London shop has one on demo so I'm going to try one out as I've heard the grip is a bit slippery. I can't use a grip though as I'd lose the hotshoe for my flash.

I had already watched a review of the 28mm lens converter but it ruins the aesthetic a bit for me as it's a bit on the bulky side. So I think I'll just stick with the fixed lens and if I need 28mm I'll use my Ricoh. Thanks for the help guys.

Decided to try a loan X100Vi for the weekend from Fujifilm… Got a call yesterday asking if I’d like it delivered early as it was available and Bank Holiday weekend deliveries are mad….

Turned up this morning, so now I have it from today until next Tuesday rather than just for the BH weekend…

Result!

Having owned all the X100 range up to the X100F I found them to be lovely cameras, but the fixed lens for me was a major issue, I bought the WCL and TCL conversion lenses but it was such a faff fitting them I ended up not even bothering. They also make the camera very front heavy. I bought an X-E5 on Monday and I am so impressed with it, I heard comments that it was plasticky. I've found it far from that, it's a very solid little camera. The build quality is as good as the best Fujis I have owned in that respect, i.e the XT-1 and the X-Pro 2. With the 40mpx sensor, ibis, interchangeable lenses and small form factor it's my perfect everyday and travel camera. Only downside for me is the viewfinder is on the small side, but it's more than up to the job. The Fuji jpegs sooc are fantastic IMO, and the film sim dial, while a little gimmicky, I find extremely useful. I'm well pleased with my purchase. I see there a silver X-E5 on sale here at a great price. Oh yeah and the 23mm F2.8 lens is incredibly sharp, albeit a little noisy.

I'd agree that the TCL makes it front heavy, the WCL less so

I have this case with a small grip built in, adds hardly any bulk and is superb quality, highly recommend it.

Nice! I'll definitely consider buying that. Did you find the default grip a bit difficult/uncomfortable to hold?

I've got a shopping list of accessories I want. One of those silver square shaped lens hoods, a screw in shutter button and a thin tan strap which will probably come to around £100 depending on which strap I get. I see some Fuji owners buying these shutter buttons that you screw into the camera shutter button for a more tactile response. Does the default button not feel very good?

I think the default shutter button is fine, but I saw the screw-in ones on loads of YouTube videos, thought they looked good and got myself a purple one. I do prefer it to the default button, but I used that for about a year with no problems before I got a screw-in one.
If you get a metal screw-in one, make sure it comes with an o-ring, otherwise it will keep unscrewing.

Not a fan of the square hoods as it adds a lot of bulk.

I got one of these.... weather seals it and has a small hood built in, it's tiny. Also has a 52mm thread on the front for filters.

I tried the leather strap from the same manufacturer of the case, not very good so if you're set on a leather strap i'd splash out for a decent one like a Wotancraft.

Shutter button is ok, i've added a brass coloured one but be careful not to over tighten and damage the mechanism.

This ^ - you can get buttons that are concave, convex or flat, your choice! Its a bit of bling really, and whilst not essential can make the camera look nice, beware though if your camera is 'on' in your bag, slight pressure on an add-on shutter button can cause it to take pictures and if an in a continuous mode, can flatten the battery!

If you are wanting to use the internal flash, then make sure the lens hood doesn't obscure it.

X100 series cameras are a bit slabby without a grip, that said I've never had issues using one without a grip, and prefer the camera without one.
