Never a problem on any of my lenses. I can count on one hand the times that I've seen unwanted flare, and all I do is raise my hand to cast a shadow on it, problem solved - if it were at an angle where my hand couldn't block it without getting in the frame, then a hood wouldn't help anyway.

Interesting,I might go hoodless then and see how it goes, do you use any type of filter on your lenses?

I have a 1/8 pro mist on my 27mm, and occasionally move it to the 17-70, but no, I don't keep one on for protection or anything.

Like I said, the camera lives in the bag while walking around, I only take it out to shoot then put it away again unless I'm actively walking around shooting.

Well I’ve had my first day out with mine today and have loved it so far (with the proviso that I’m away so haven’t had chance to review the images other than on the back of the camera yet). I thought I might end up trading it back in after a while but I think I’m hooked now :D

Yes. Still relevant. Of course it helps if you’re a deliberate photographer. It’s dated (steam driven) but so satisfying to use. And those colours…

EDIT. Thanks for asking Peter. You’ve reminded me why I’ve still got mine. I promise to use it tomorrow.

EVF - More Hopeless
AF - Even More Hopeless

Tactile Feel - Excellent
Pride of Ownership - Excellent
Image Quality - Excellent
Colour Rendition - Superb and probably the best Fuji I’ve owned (inc GFX)

It’s a great camera as long as you can live within its parameters. But if you want different focal lengths then I would go with an X-Pro1 which shares just about all of the same characteristics.

It states it's likely to be a 1 inch sensor, much like the X10/20/30.

I'm afraid I don't see the point. Half frame was used because film was finite, and cost money per frame. Digital has neither of those problems.

Fuji sure do make some weird decisions. People crying out for instax cameras with more control, or an updated x30, and they keep giving us stuff like this while simultaneously claiming this is what people want.

Maybe it's more of a global claim of what people want? Could be a case of not so much in the UK, but elsewhere etc. I have no idea ;)

I'm guessing the association with half frame is because for half frame film, the 35mm film is effetively split into 2 vertical frames.
By giving the user a vertical sensor whilst the camera is in landscape, it's effectively emulating that.
Now that the summit has happened we actually know a lot more about the X-M5 and the rumours were false. (It's actually a 26mp APS-C sensor)
 
Chris Nicholls at Peta Pixel has got his hands on a pre-production model of the M-X5 if anyone is interested. Sounds pretty good actually.

This gives me hope that the X-E5 (if thats whats coming next) will come with a body grip again! And dials on both sides of the body!

I really like using OVFs so the X-M5 may not be for me; but its so tiny it is tempting

Is anyone pre-ordering the 16-55mm MK II?
 
I need a new standard lens (or at least my son needs a standard lens, so it is a good opportunity for me to upgrade), but I need to decide between the 16-50 "kit" lens or the 15-55 f2.8.
 
I'm happy enough with the MK1. Although I prefer primes, it has it's uses. Can't really see any need to get a newer version.

Not sure what your current lens is, but I've been loving the tamron 17-70 as a standard lens. Sharp enough, light, nice range and f2.8

It gets a bit of a bad rap, but I've been very happy with the 16-80mm F/4 since I bought it last year. That extra bit of reach is very handy sometimes.

I need to see a good size comparison - or more likely borrow both the new kit lens and new 16-55 and see how I get on with them. Realistically I mainly use the wide lens for landscape, so stopped down, but I could see the odd situation where I would want to use it at f2.8 when zoomed in.

I am currently using the 18-55 "kit" lens, the main thing I don't like about it is that it isn't quite wide enough. I'm only considering lenses with an aperture ring though.

Before the recent lens releases that was my first choice, but I think f2.8, even if only at the wide end, is more useful to me than the extra reach. If Fuji had done an X-H2S/16-80 kit, as they did with the X-H2, I would likely have got that.
