The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Would any of you macro shooters know whether i'd get more magnification from the 60mm macro or the 11 or 16mm extension tubes? I have a macro assessment i need to take some images for and need to purchase one of these in the next week or so. I currently shoot with the 18-55, 56 and 90 if that makes a difference.

Scrap that guys. It seems the 18-55 can get to .97 at the wide end with the 16mm extension tube. More than enough for me.

Just get the cheap third party set of macro rings for £20, I use them all the time and find them great. Can't really stack them with the 35 I use or you're only a few mm from the subject, but the 16mm on it's own is pretty decent.

Worth noting that to get to 0.97 you will almost be touching the subject with the lens, which makes getting enough light on the subject a challenge.
i must admit to being very worried about lighting the subjects knowing almost nothing about macro.

What are the subjects going to be? The maximum magnification of 0.97 only gives 4mm between the front of the lens and your subject.

It's a zoom though, you can zoom in a little and get more working distance. Does it have to be 1:1 or close as?

It is indeed, however I'm merely commenting on the maximum magnification of 0.97 which can only be achieved at 18mm. More working distance and more zoom gives less magnification,

Ya I know, I was asking Scott :D

A mono iteration from yesterday's trip to Swaledale. Loosely based on Acros+R in LR. (It was actually a lovely sunny day with distant black clouds!). X-T2 plus 10-24mm.

Absolutely "Excellent" Fujigraph Sir, great composition with a good lead in from the wall on the right to the two people, lovely light, and spot on exposure with fine detail in the highlights & shadows and a good full range of punchy mono tones.(y)

George.

Thank you for a good detailed crit, George. Much appreciated.

View attachment 113853 Took a trip up to visit the Tan Hill Inn today and saw this little fella also admiring the view. Taken with my 55-200 that I very rarely use on my XT2

Very nice Fujigraph, well composed, good colour, and lovely use of differential focusing.(y)

Great shot and very good PP Stephen.
Thanks Dave. I simply applied the Acros R profile then messed around a bit until I thought it was something like.

I'm still getting to know my new X-T2 and this is only the third photo I've shared, but after several days of cloud and rain I couldn't resist stopping to capture this view today. X-T2 with the 18-55 f2.8-4 at 20mm.

Sorry guys never got notifications of the responses. Subjects range from flowers, mushrooms etc to coins and rust items. Nothing really moving.

Loving the colour palette on this one Andrea. Helps that I have a soft spot for boats!

A very peaceful scene, well exposed.

Wow, thank you all for your comments. It's not a patch on some of the great images that have been posted in this thread (and I have read most of it now - just a few more pages to go!) but I was really pleased with the way the crisp blues were captured. It's just the way I saw it this morning and the image has had minimal processing.

I have an xt2 and 16-55 lens arriving today to try out (they are on hire). Is there a neutral or flat setting available? All I have been able to see are various film simulations ... I'll be shooting raw but am assuming that like Nikon & Canon the histogram etc will be based on the processed image (i.e. jpeg) ...

Also, when I was looking at one in a local shop, the chap there said that the in camera corrections (distortion, vignetting etc) are applied to the raw files too - now maybe I misunderstood, but is this true? I know it can be done in LR etc ...
