What's the general consensus for NR and sharpening settings in camera guys? I generally leave them well alone but have seen recommendations to turn down the NR particularly.
Do you change them across the board or specifically for certain film simulations?
Cheers

One from a couple of weekends ago on a day out with Mickledore. XT-1 with 18-55 kit lens. Really been too busy to drag out the XT-2 the last few weeks.
Oops link hasn't worked quite right, click it to see the shot.
Not sure you can do Flickr copies on a phone.Still up for Brum deffo, had a family crisis and my heads a bit of a mess at the moment mate. Doing this on my phone. Can't figure out how to copy image tags on Flickr on my phone lol.
Not sure you can do Flickr copies on a phone.
Certainly beyond my pay grade!!!
Errrrrr. And in English?Just do it on your web browser and enable 'desktop mode'. Yours, a real techie![]()
Go to Flickr.com in your browser rather than the flickr app. It'll open the mobile site first, then there's a link at the bottom to view it in desktop mode (as it would appear on the computer).Errrrrr. And in English?
Thanks. I'll have a look at that.Go to Flickr.com in your browser rather than the flickr app. It'll open the mobile site first, then there's a link at the bottom to view it in desktop mode (as it would appear on the computer).
From there you can click share, and get the BB code needed to do Flickr links in forums.

Just my normal wellie boots.
Do you know who owns/maintains this? Considering it's location it is in damned good nick.
A technical question for @Mr Perceptive
Two shots taken one after the other from the same place. You know where it is....View attachment 99455 View attachment 99456
The first one was with the 23mm at f14. The second was with the 14mm at f22.
Both shots processed identically.
The sun in the first comes out as a starburst, but in the second it is more of a blob. I would have expected f22 to have given a more pronounced star burst. Is there a reason why f14 on the 23mm is more noticeable? Is there some different arrangement with the aperture blades between the two lenses? Or is there some other technical reason for the apparently poorer performance form the 14mm?
Your expert technical knowledge is welcome, but don't invoice me. You'll get a bacon barmie, and that's all!
It does depend on focal length, blade size, shape and number. However I would hazard a guess that this example is down to diffraction. Had you tried the 23mm at f22 it would have been quite similar.
Take a shot at each f-sto for each lens and you'll see the starburst narrow down, until it peaks at f11ish, then it'l start to spread due to diffraction until at f22 where I imagine it will be pretty blobby again.
It was restored in the 80s(?) by the WDA and SNPA. None of the timber is original, the restored flat rods failed and were replaced for a second time in 2013 according to Dave Sallery. I can't find any primary sources on who's responsible for it.
EDIT: It was done in 1992.

This ^^^ There will come a point where the extreme diffraction will cause a loss of resolution, hence a more blobby light source. As jimmyjango says, as you stop the lens down you may well pass through the point of 'best' starburst. The 'quality' of the starburst is based on the number of blades and their shape. The starburst though is a diffraction effect, and it's loss into blobbyness only occurs at extreme diffraction, you need 'some' diffraction to create the effect in the first place. Don't forget that the size of the aperture 'opening' also changes with focal length, just to add more variables. Best to experiment with a zoom lens (eg 18-55) to see differences between wide angle and 'normal' and different apertures.
BTW its a steep climb isn't it!

X-T1 is not the best for motorsport. I tried several times with not much luck. Hit rate improved markedly with the T2.I happened to attend motorcycle racing event today by luck, was using the XT1 & XF100-400mm combo, wow not good, quite a bit of lag in between captures, hardly any in focus tbh.
More practice required I think!
Don't know about the lens, but the T2 will work very well for motorsport. I've used the 55-200 with great success, so maybe the 16-55 is not ideal for fast moving subjects.Guys, I've just done my second sports event with the XT-2 as my second camera with the 16-55mm lens which was a charity run, I have just been looking through the photos now and found that th hit rate for those in focus in very low :-(
I would appreciate some tips from others shooting sports with the XT-2? as at the moment I'm struggling to get decent performance from the continuous focus. I appreciate that the 16-55mm is not a sports lens, but I ready have the 70-200mm on my Canon, so its useful to have a wider option.
I my feeling based on using this lens, is that it's pretty slow to focus and seems to miss far more shorts than the 23mm I was using the other week.
It's a real shame because when the camera nails focus the shots look great, but so far it's not enough with the lens combo to feel confident enough to use the camera for laid jobs .
Any advice of best setup would be appreciated.

Nice portrait well processed.Mildly psychotic

I've got to say, I keep thinking about selling both Canon and Fuji kits and just going all in with Sony. I like the size of the Fuji and the FF of the Canon, so it kind of makes sense to look at Sony. I like the idea of adapting manual lenses to keep the size down as well if needed.
I don't particularly want 46MP though, and last time I looked AF was better on the R. So I'll wait and see what the A7mk3 (or whatever it'll be called) performs like. All the reports of all round slow performance worries me as well.
I keep meaning to have a look at a speed booster on the Fuji but haven't got round to it.
It was just something that came to me while I was messing around. As the sun was shining I spent all day doing silly things like that.
Yes, it's a steep climb, but that didn't really bother me. It was the descent on my shattered knee that was the problem. Common sense (aka SWMBO) says i shouldn't have gone, but....
Called off at Trefor on the way back. Bit of a disappointment, although I collected a couple of rusty nails for my collection.
Went straight up the front. Drove up the road from the village. It was rough - possibly too rough for your car - and that took me to a locked gate more than 3/4 of the way up. Then a short walk.Which way did you go up there in the end? (Trefor that is)
