The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

I haven't shot long exposure so don't know if it generally overexposes the RAW compared to the histogram, but do you have any shadows, highlights or DR settings altered from default? Do you shoot RAW and jpeg and if so what do the jpegs look like compared to the histogram, and to the RAWs?

I've gone back to shooting RAW only after a brief spell with RAW+FINE, but will maybe try both next time. Although I thought I had everything set at default, it turns out I have H-Tn and S-Tn both at -1, because someone had suggested this gave a better match to the RAW histogram. Maybe that idea doesn't hold up so well for night shooting... So thanks for that thought!

Nice image, David. I was pretty sure I'd read a blog post recently on the topic of raw vs jpeg histograms (not a topic of huge interest as I mostly shoot film). It was this:

https://photographylife.com/when-in-doubt-bracket

Hope that's of interest...
Thanks! That looks...very thorough! I'll give it my best attention and perhaps the penny will drop :)

Edit: Hmm. The main thing I'm learning from this article is that the resemblance between the JPEG histogram and the RAW is often very tenuous, and not to be remotely relied upon. What a pity manufacturers don't seem to be interested in making cameras for people who shoot RAW...there is so much they could tell us, and don't.

That would be the ones who bought them originally and are now selling them at a loss :D

Ceeaper than hiring one for 2 months!

Not the sharpest shot in the world (35mm @ 1.4 and ISO maxxed out on T1 it never will be) but I just loved the p***ed off expression.

I'm really loving the 35 1.4, it's no speed demon but I am finding that people exaggerate big time on it's AF and even the noise. It's not bothered me yet, I guess it might in a very quiet situation. But the images coming off it are beautiful. If i was more a video person, I'd want the F2, but this is just right for me atm.

Essex Man comes North in December and dresses for the North Pole.
What's he going to do when winter arrives?

Impressive skill - operating the camera dials whilst wearing those gloves!

Remind me to never join you guys for a shoot

Hey folks!! Just thought I'd stop by and say "Hi"! Just re-purchased my system after having to sacrifice it for the summer. Gone back to a D700, though. Am I sill allowed to post in here?:D
no!

Be careful, they don't like Nikonians in here ;) :p

Has there been any rumour of Fuji compatible hss monolight options being released at all?

Probably because it's an old model.

I'm not silly enough to dislike anyone for the gear they use, if I was I'd probably pick on Canonites first :D

You're the perfect person to inject some life into a moribund thread.
Close the door on your way out:wacky:
Could always get @rookies to starts asking questions on there, that'd spark it back into life ;) :p

thats because he has decided not to purchase an XT2
Thought he'd ordered and paid for one at a price never before seen to mankind?

Firmware updates have improved it beyond recognition, so older reviews may highlight the speed/noise more so. I had one in 2013 on an X-E1 and own one again now on an X-T1, it's honestly like a different system.

Hi I have just put some photos using the XF 60mm f2.4 macro but also the XF 18-135mm shot at mfd to show magnification obtainable I then fitted two cheap extension tubes to the 18-135mm and managed to obtain a slightly greater magnification than the 60mm @ mfd without tubes :) it just could be a cheap option for the occasional macro work ?:fuji:

Hi Phil,

Link now works, thanks.

A few questions;

1) What is MFD an acronym for?
2) I can see two images that display text explaining the 18 - 135mm lens with (and without) those extension tubes. I don't see any listing the 60mm Macro lens?
3) The image with the extension tube is sharp in centre and very quickly becomes unfocused. Is that the cost of using a tube?

Ta

*edit* Strike question 2 - I found the 60mm https://www.flickr.com/photos/149123258@N08/31289508952/ *end edit*

He had but with the option to cancel. Last I heard from him he had decided to stick with Sony although was still going to try the XT2 out. Not sure whether he ever did or not.

Ahh - Dedicated to the cause in that photo

Was the focal distance just short, meaning you had to wade a few foot in to get the shot?

PS Did the misses call whilst you was wading?
Are you talking about the man who feels cold in Saudi Arabia or the wader?
I was the wader looking for that unique angle that dry shod folk miss. I was trying to calculate the correct exposure for the filters I was using hence the look of intense concentration, not to say befuddlement.
My missus wouldn't dare ring me when I'm on a shoot.

It's not wading unless it's up to yer knackers. Jayis, did you ever fish? no big deal to it. I actually preferred the shot without the foreground water

I was referring to the wader :)

I'm guessing that's one of the most photographed trees in the UK. Providing a unique photo is worth the dedication, and I duff my hat to you sir.

However - if you was a proper northerner - you'd have been caught not on your phone, but instead, with hands on hips, wearing nothing more than a pair of budgie smugglers and a big grin :D

Now there's a unique tree shot for your next meet - that tip came for free

You forgot the flat cap ;)

Nah - I'm one of the southern softies who wears a beanie when it's cold, rather than a proper Yorkshire flat clap
I was referring to your comment about "a proper northerner" ;)
