The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

OK folks. Progress is being made.
Thanks to @G.K.Jnr. the DNG convertor he pointed to works. As I normally convert to DNG files anyway this adds just one extra step, but I've set up my workflow so that it takes virtually no extra time. The new RAW files are read and converted and able to be used in both LR5.7 and CS6. No need for upgrades or CC subscription. Thanks to @Alan Clogwyn for highlighting this.
There is also the added benefit that you can view the DNG thumbnails in Windows but you never could view RAF files in there.

Next I think I've sorted out shoting to two cards. You need to set the menu I.Q.>Image Quality to shoot Normal & RAW. Then in the Spanner section choose Save Data Set up>Card Slot Setting>RAW/JPEG. This saves the RAW to card 1 and the JPEG to card 2. The previews/reviews you see are JPEG files and will be goverened by the JPEG setting you have chosen. So if you have chosen Acros then you will only ever see a mono image, even if reviewing the shots on card 1 - the RAW files. You only see the RAW files when you get to the DNG editing process.
If the camera cannot save a RAW file, panoramas or @Greggster exposure bracketing you will only get JPEG files saved.

Does all that make sense?
Here's a quick snapshot I took of @Mr Perceptive when he realised that he would finally have to settle his debt and buy me a pint....

Looks like I'm up and running.
I'd set mine up the same way, but chose fine+raw. My X-T1 raws could be seen on my Mac, I haven't tried the X-T2 yet.

I live in New Zealand now so unless you are very keen then it's probably a bit too far to travel!
Not that keen ;) just was surprised that you bought one while out shopping. Here in the UK, stores are struggling with demands :( enjoy your XT2 :D

Thanks, my usual store has no stock so this was not planned (although my missus does not believe that at all). I spotted one in the cabinet and assumed they only had the demo model but the salesperson said they had 3 in stock, I bargained $150 off the price (75 quid in real money) and that was good enough for me :)

Loving the combined Fuji / Guitar talk. I currently have... (counts) ... 8 guitars and a bass, which makes me set of lenses look rather restrained!

Very nicely done! I've been restraining myself all week from purchasing a Telecaster. I actually gave in at one point but the seller cancelled the order as it was damaged. Which was good luck really as wifey would have damaged me had a third guitar turned up!

I've been away from photography for a few years. I'm amazed how popular the x-series has become on TP. I was all set on moving to a A7 now I'm not sure. I like shooting with 35,50mm equiv primes. Maybe fujifilm would be a better option?

LMAO brilliant. So Fuji says he's roite ! He might be roite but he's still an assh@le. Right I'm off to do some waxing
Well if he's reading this....

Hows about this, stop dissing people (yes I get I'm dissing you but hey) then I might actually listen to what you have to say.
Say something once, maybe twice - but don't drag your YouTube posts out to at least twice as long by saying the same thing over and over.

Yes he was right - but he's no House!

I said it before and I'll say it again - being right (about this thing at least) and being an opinionated arse or indeed knob polisher are not mutually exclusive.

Since I'm waiting on my camera I'm doing some lightroom management. For people who shoot JPEG and raw how do you organise in lightroom? Import both? Same folder? Any ideas would be good.

I have always imported both in the same folder. That said, I put my most recent holiday photos in separate folders and imported them independently, as the JPGs looked so damn good, I didn't actually need the raws unless I'd cocked up the shot, so they were just getting in the way :)

The only issue i have found with converting the XT2 raw`s to dng is that you cannot select different camera calibrations i.e Provia /astia etc and are stuck with adobe standard in LR 5.7

I make a collection set per photo shoot, within that set I then create a collection for jpg and another for raw.

You can easily see all images by selecting the set, or narrow it down to jpg / raw by selecting the collection.

Forgive the rookie question, but how do I get the X-T1 to bracket at more than -1, 0, +1?

I had to do some interior photography a few weeks back and I would have liked a bit more range in the HDR. Some shots I had to manually turn the exp comp dial on camera which isn't ideal.

To say that I'm impressed with the X-T2 is an understatement. Despite all of the hype about the AF performance, I never believed it until yesterday when I took it up to my local Red Kite feeding centre. The X-T1 was absolutely dire when it came to tracking on those birds but the X-T2 never skipped a beat and even made my old Nikons look positively tame by comparison. The only AF issues I had were down to my sloppy handling rather than with the camera. :)

As for everything else, it's just as much of a joy to use as the X-T1 was and the inclusion of the AF joystick was the cherry on the cake. :)

The max you can set is +/-1 in the menu. So if you want more you use the exposure compensation dial. Set it on -3 in bracket mode and it will give you -2, -3 and -4. Same on the plus side. That way you can get a 9 shot HDR.

"Cracking" set of images Si, nothing more to be said.(y)

"As I said in an earlier post after I tried a pre-production X-T2 at an F1 meeting some time ago, these cameras are a serious contender for us to switch to Fuji 100% for all our motor sport work which we have now decided to do. This we'll do at the end of this years F1 season, they really are that good" :)

George.

This type of thing is not making me any happier that I have to wait another week for mine ... that said I grumpily acknowledge these are amazing shots. Grrr

George.

Thanks George. I was really amazed. I certainly didn't expect this level of performance from it... I shot the British GT at Oulton Park last year on the X-T1 and was not a happy bunny! I just need to sell a kidney now so that I can grab a 100-400mm.

I think it's about time that Fuji gave us a 300mm f/2.8 OIS prime now. :D

Thanks Adam. I hope you have as much fun with yours as I'm having with mine. :)

I got out today while walking the dog to try the X-T2, I went around the Titanic quarter in Belfast. I'm kind of embarrassed posting these after looking at Si's above. But in my defence I was shooting one handed (walking dog) and I don't have an artistic bone in my body :( But I enjoyed myself.

Wel you could be in my boat. I've had the camera from day one, but not had time to go out with it.:(

I was hoping the xt2 wouldn't be as much of a step up in the AF department as it is so I wouldn't need to upgrade.. A positive spin on a not so positive bank balance depleting point. I'll wait a month, see how much we can get them for once preorders etc are all done and run rates slow off.

Look good to me Jim, especially 4 and 5. Number 1 could probably be improved with a portrait crop though.

True, I didn't have time to pp so I just uploaded what I had. I'm sorry I didn't bring my 10-24mm, no.4 would look much better slightly wider I think.

Good luck waiting, don't expect much of a price drop, 6 months on and the X-Pro 2 hasn't moved a penny.

The way sterling has dropped against major currencies I can see the prices going up rather than down.

If prices have already gone up then they won't. The rate only affects pricing in line with the exchange. The rumoured £1249 launch or what ever it was became £1399 so that's already happened. Other lines in the range will no doubt increase mind.

I'd expect rates to improve in the coming months, perhaps to a not quite so strong pre brexit rate but high 1.3s at least. Sales records and a more stable government over November (assuming it happens) will raise confidence and in turn rates.

To all those dithering about a purchase of an X-T2, I would say having used one for a couple of days, it's a complete no-brainer. It really is like having a different camera.

Two things stand out:-

1) Speed, its a real step up on an X-T1 in just about everything, but most notably switch on, focus lock and writing to the card

2) ACROS - this is just amazing, its like having a new camera (I can see my self setting several different Acros custom settings), noise at high ISO is handled superbly, and using algorithms only available in the X-T2 and X-Pro2 (thats in-camera not in LR or any other film simulation) it creates film like images. For me I reckon it's going to cut down on a load of editing time, and I reckon that I will be using more JPEGs than I have previously. It really is quite superb.

To me, it's the step change in mirrorless that we all cried out for - Mirrorless has come of age.

:fuji:

oh dear i was only last week smugly saying i'm less bothered in upgrades now and cured the GAS!

I should have £1k to spend on the refurbished site (what sort of warranty do you get?) I would get bother the 23 and 35mm f2 for £500ish when in stock, but which body? Is the x-t1 worth virtually double the cost of the x-t10 or do i go for the E2 or even wait for a refurbished T2 and just get the one lens?

Got to agree with all that. It may "only" be an upgrade on the T1, but it really is quite distinct in nearly every way. If you want one and have the funds then get one. The price won't come down for at least 6 months (if at all) and if you keep delaying things then you'll just kick yourself when you finally take the plunge. Get one and enjoy it and stop fannying about!

I am completely stuck between splurging on one of these, grabbing a Sony a6300 or even getting the a6000 and waiting for either of the others or the full frame Sony's to come down.

If it was just stills it'd be a no brainer but I shoot more video. It's probably 70-30 in favour of video and I wonder, considering that it'll be an 'all in' change to one of these systems, that Sony might offer the videographer more in subsequent cameras so I don't have to change lenses either.

Literally spend all my spare time on YouTube or in camera stores! My guitars are getting no look in

Also doesn't help that no f*$ker has got an X-T2 in store. Went in to Park, Jessops and the various small independents in Oxford St yesterday and even the demo models have been ripped off the stands and sold!
