The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

You are a total nutter! Well done, it was worth it :)
Bit of a Curate's Egg. Nice being out in the snow and sun. I used to spend most of my spare time on those hills in all conditions. Photowise it was less so. I was trying for shots down the valley to the lake but I'm just a little disappointed with them.

Things to like about the 16-50: It's light, it's cheap, it has excellent IQ.
Things to dislike: It feels horrible. No aperture ring or OIS switch.

Things to like about the 18-55: It has an aperture ring & and OIS switch. It is metal. It feels lovely.
Things to dislike: Compared to the 16-50 it's relatively heavy and expensive.
Just bought a 18-55 off here for £195, thats not expensive, not even relatively so :)

Sorry, noob question here: see if you are wandering around shooting and the camera has seen fit to put itself to sleep - how do you wake it up and how long does it usually take?

Thanks :)

A half press on the shutter button should wake it instantly.

Anyone got any tips on cleaning blood off an X-T1 and a 55-200?
That could be very tricky. Might even be terminal. You'd better have them looked at by an expert. Send them to me and I'll assess if they are salvable.
Unfortunately I may have to consign them to the scrap bin. Honest; would I lie to you?

Ha!

It may surprise you that I won't be taking you up on that offer. :p

What's the deal with the big diesel behind the Scotsman?

Diesel broken down and Scotsman to the rescue, well that would be best case I guess

Have a look at the National Preservation forum. Ask on there. Then get out the cumfy chair and the popcorn. The debate will last till Xmas!

Its an old class 31 in EWS so its not an in service diesel, interestingly the rolling stock appears to be old BR coaches which i doubt the FS normally pulls so i reckon the FS was pulling the whole lot to a nearby yard

Scratch that about the coaches - zooming into image i can see people inside :D

I'm not into my trains but the 4.2 Million refurbishment has been carried out by a local firm in Bury and the launch was last Friday with it running Saturdays and Sundays last week and this week 4 times a day and was fully booked ages ago. Its currently in its wartime black colours but after today I think its off to Manchester next week on a test run to Carlisle before its painted green and then London Kings Cross to York to its new home at the National railway museum.

Anyone recommend a reasonably priced flash for the X-T1 ... Although the included flash is adequate I'm curious to know what people are using to take it to the next level.

Nissin i40 seems to be most people's choice. Works well but is manual only. Some use a Meike.

There are rumours that Fuji are bringing out a proper flash of their own this summer which will have working ETTL.

Meike mk320 is a sub £50 TTL flash for fuji.
There is also the Fuji EF20 and EF42 wjich are rebadged Sunpaks.

Re the nissin i40 i was led to believe that it is a TTL flash?

I use a old Nikon flashgun SB26 in A mode or manual which appears to work fine for me
Any of the old Nikon speedlights should offer this facility.
Ie SB24,25,26,28 along with SB600,800,900,910 also trigger the with Yongnuo triggers.
There are several Camera Fairs around the country and these along with other guns can be had fairly cheap:)

Nissin i40 is TTL, but on camera only. No remote although I believe an off camera cord such as the Canon one will work. Never tried it though.

Off camera cord works for TTL with the Nissin. For some strange reason the cord will not give TTL on the Meike flash.

In fairness mqnual flash isnt difficult to learn and understand, ETTL is jiat convenient in timeous situations.

I've not shared a photo on here for a while, so thought i'd post one. It was taken with my XT-1 and 23mm.
The location is Stanley in the Falkland Islands where I am currently working. Glorious sunset and the ship in the background is called the Lady Elizabeth which ran aground many years ago (1914 I think??).

Thanks for looking :)
