Quick random one please chaps - if one is on Velvia mode does that do anything to the RAW file or just the jpeg?
TIA
TIA
Just the JPEG. The RAW is untouched.
Thanks, that's what I thought. I was out with a Fuji shooter last night (Santa has mine locked up until the 25th!) and he said the RAW is also different but I thought I had read different. I'll put him straight tomorrow![]()
Firmware 4.00 > 4.20 complete
Thanks - has anybody got a link which states this as my chum is totally not believing me!The only "jpeg" setting that can have any impact on your raw file is DR 200 and DR 400
But this isn't a fuji thing, iirc it's true of all ISOless sensors

Thanks mickledore! My chum is using Velvia mode but then processing the RAW to give the finished shot - this seems daft to me?
@quango2k The thing that does annoy me is when the UK retailers / manufacturers sell a product at MORE than the international item price plus taxes just because we live in the UK and SHOULD be able to afford the extra!

As I understand it, I think the vat is paid for by digital Rev, as well as import tax. You are bang on the money on uk sellers charging more than you can buy elsewhere...this is what bugs me most. You can buy the same things in the states in $ as we do in £....and that's not all import costs, just greed. If it wasn't the case there would be no market for the likes of digital rev in the uk.
At the end of the day manufacturers and retailers charge what they think the market will tolerate and can afford. I always set a price in my own mind what I'm prepared to pay for a product, and if that's close enough to what UK sellers want to charge, then I'll go that route. Otherwise I'll either do without or take the risk of the grey market - and there ARE risks, whether they materialise or not. They dont pay the VAT unless you get stung. Otherwise they dont pay a penny towards the UK economy on each sale. TBF a lot of stuff is a direct conversion plus related tax. US prices usually dont show sales tax.

If HMRC decided to inspect every item imported into the UK, and take it's market value instead of it's declared value then VAT would get charged at the normal rate, and after a period of time grey importation would dry up. There really isn't any greed on behalf of most UK resellers, if you subtract the VAT costs then the prices are broadly similar to the likes of Digital Rev, add in the cashback then its quite a bit less!!!
It is also normal for global companies to set different continent market prices, that's not the resellers being greedy, but the blame should be at the door of the manufacturer.
Having been quite a significant distributor/reseller in a past business (£3 milllion imports annually), I can tell you that its certainly not all about greed, and you have to also take into account currency fluctuations, especially when selling product on 30 day trade account terms. The grey importers get your money instantly so can take benefit of currency changes immediately.
This is what I was referring more to in terms of pricing.... 1DX grey £2800 vs UK £4400, lets be generous and say once you add the tax to the import thats £3500. Wheres the other £900 going to? Thats why I said the retailer / manufacturers take the P sometimes. More likely manufacturer though.
Its not £900 !!!! £3500-£2800 = £700 !!! But compared to digital rev, etc the difference is actually only £200, so hardly greed on the part of the UK reseller.
£2800 grey + 20% tax = 3360
4400 UK - 3360 = 1040.
This is too taxing, so here goes with a change of tack
Has anyone a suggestion please for a decent Arca Swiss plate to fit a X-T1?
Thinking of something smaller than the full length ones that form the base plate of grips or L plates (already got one of those)
Thank you
But that's from a supplier who claims to have stock but can't ship for 2-5 business days!!!! Would you really order from them?
So they can operate on lower margins as they actually hold no stock!!! when you place your order, they will get the item in from Canon/their distributor before sending to you!!!!!
As I said before the Digital Rev difference is a lot smaller.
And of course add in the factory that aren't Canon Warranties Region Specific????
I thought 3LT supplied a plate with their tripods? They did with mine. Think I've still got it somewhere. Think I've got a couple of spare plates in the box. Want me to have a look? This is too taxing, so here goes with a change of tack
