The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

The 10-24mm was my second lens (following 18-135mm "kit lens") and I adore it. Wasn't sure if I'd want to go "that wide" before getting it but I'm so pleased I did - it's wonderful.

Really it ain't simple at all. I've just counted and it takes 21 button clicks to knock it off. Then when you want to put it back that's another 21 clicks. 42 clicks to switch on and off a simple feature. They are having a larf!
AFAIK you can't assign that to any particular button, can you? What a waste of time and effort.
You can get the same effect with just 2 clicks. Now that's simples, but you do have to think a bit how to do it.

I've got my X-T1 set up so that the wifi button allows me to switch preview exposure on/off, it's a feature I use a lot and had to have a quicker way of getting there.

Didn't know that was possible. I gave up with the long way and just knock the button on the lens that takes me out of manual and into shutter priority. Then all I have to do is remember to switch it back!

Just press and hold the wifi button until the list of options appears, scroll to preview exposure and that's it set.

It still requires a couple of clicks to switch on or off, but you only need to do that once per session instead of changing it each time you re-focus.

Edit,
We crossed.
I use the 10-24 plus a Samyang 8mm fisheye.
Why would you consider the 23mm if you have the 10-24mm?

Sorry, I should have put 'or' not 'and'.....

I don't want to go made on glass, however, I will definitely own more than a single lens.

Currently have a 24-105, 50mm and 70-200 on my Canon.

I find that I use the 200 less and less, so thinking a wider angle lens would be more beneficial to me.

Also might be an idea to see if you get on with it before coughing up for lenses.
Good idea TBH its not for everyone but me being a old *art it takes me back to my first 35mm rangefinder days :)
Only I don't have to fiddle with spools and film but I do need the spare batteries that I didn't need back then !

Sorry, I missed that it was on the list - didn't scroll down far enough.
Won't use the wifi button - I use that for wifi! Think one of the four back buttons is favourite.

Maybe a Canon eos to xf adapter for around a tenner from ebay ??

Dont forget the Fuji is a 1.5 crop, so all his Canon lenses will become quite a lot longer than what he was thinking of buying. The 24-105 becomes an effective 36-150. May be too long for his purpose.

I'm selling all my Canon kit to a friend and downsizing. I had a 6D on order but decided to chop that in and get the X-T1. I found that I wasn't snapping enough due to size/weight/unpractical-ness of the big DSLR.

I think he owns these already I just thought the adapter would give him a cheap option to use the Xpro1 until he can fund a xf mount lens :)

Well the 10-24 and 18-135mm could be just the 2 lens kit you will need ? Both ois and i think WR on 18-135:)

Need to be careful with Canon adapters though as you don't get AF, IS or even the ability to change aperture :(

Morning all....

Just a quick one about lenses.

I'm taking delivery of my X-T1 on Friday and it's coming with the 18-55mm.

I'm looking to purchase another lens and really struggling since all the XF range seem fantastic.

If you were to buy one other lens, which would you go for?

Cheers!

50-140mm :D

Sounds reasonable.

I have both in my kit now plus 18/f2.0, 27/2.8, 35/1.4,56/1.2 and the 90/2.0 a couple of Nikon to XF adapters and a 42mm to XF on its way :)

Slightly digressing how would you change aperture?
IIRC you set aperture in your camera body then held DOF preview button when removing from the body and aperture would remain as set. But if you haven't got a body to set it on what would you do?

i think he is thinking more of going wider as he said he doesn't tend to use his longer lens on the Canon he is still using but agree it would make a good pairing with the 18-55mm ois at a price of course;)

Thats the problem with all electronic connections on lenses.Though it looks like he is selling the Canon kit to a friend !
But with G lens from Nikon you can still stop down with the correct adapter or with older manual or AF you have a aperture ring as per old 42mm screw thread lenses :)

Thought that was the case.
It's what stopped me getting an adapter for my Canon lenses.
Took the easy option and sold them!

just put the XF 35mm f1.4 on newly purchased XE2 here is the XT10 with XF/Nikon G adapter and my 60mm f2.8 AFD micro nikon attached.
taken at f1.4 its sharp as you could want it to ever be :)

Just a couple of lenses then!..... Haha.

I've just ordered an Ex-Pro (white) battery (£13) and new 64gb Sandisk Extreme Pro card (£30, bargain!).

Shame I've got to wait till Christmas till I can play with it all. :(

Thats a good price for 64gig sandisk amazon 16gig are £20 so i have ordered some Lexar 64gig at £23 each :)
I have been trying out these and find them lasting better than org Fuji batteries and a very fast delivery

Great price on those batteries. I'll see how I get on with 2 and if needed, I'll purchase some of the above.

Do you just use the kit charger or have you purchased another?

Press and hold the wifi, or any other button. Hold long enough and a drop down menu appears. Scroll down till you find what you want.

so, basically it disables the wireless function in favor of XYZ?

if so..I will wait for 4.2 so I can assign that to the record button as I will never use video....ever.

You don't have to use the wifi button. That was just Barrysprout's choice. Mine is set on the bottom of the four control buttons.
Choose whichever is best for you. I want to keep the wifi function so don't use that. You may or may not want wifi.

Yep I just chose the wifi button as I use the four rear buttons for focus. Using wifi is not a fast set up anyway so I don't mind using the menu to access it. I'll probably use the record button for it after the update.

FYI - anyone looking for a decent dual charger.

I use a Hahnel pro cube twin charger for my Canon kit and I love it...but they dont have one for Fuji..So I emailed them and they just confirmed they are working on one for Fuji and it will be released in Q2 of 2016. :)

Ooh, that sounds interesting. I use two chargers at the moment, but having one dual would be a much more simple option.

My most used lens is the 18-135mm, then 35mm, 10-24mm then lastly 55-200mm but this is dependant on time of year etc

OK. You want pictures? Prepared to be bored!
The first is of my "studio". In reality it is the loft. I put some chipboard on the floor and covered it with redundant carpet. Screwed some plasterboard to the rafters and got a mate to skim it. There was an unused power supply in the room below so that was run up there. It is not much more than 8' square, but I'm 6'2" and can only stand upright in the centre. Other times I'm bent over. This was taken at the far end of the space with a 24mm on full frame, so you can get an impression of how small it really is.

The rest show various bits of gear.
Fuji on tripod, and control unit for the setup strapped to one of the legs.
The liquid is Guar gum (A food thickening agent) in dilute solution with dishwasher rinse aid added. The green shots were Xanthem gum with no rinse aid. Colouration is by Oasis flower water colourant.
The striped BG is a roll of cheapo wrapping paper from Clinton Cards pasted onto a piece of chipboard. The blue BG is a leftover roll of wallpaper.
Flashes are trigerered by YN 622TX on camera and 622Cs under the flash.

It's all a bit Heath Robinson and I'm very restricted by lack of space, but in winter when the only alternative is talking to SWMBO it's my little refuge!

(Pictures are below my usual quality but CBA doing a proper job!!!)
What the hell does your partner think you're doing up there !
