The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

I got a Minions wall lamp :D

might have went for another X100T if the discount hadn't been capped at £50

I got an optech dual strap to help out at weddings/events. Using the Fuji straps didn't work out and I I definitely missed shots because of. Love a cheeky discount!

Struggling yet again with panoramas!

Before the rain came there was calm by Alan Jones, on Flickr

This one was done in camera, and is all blurry because of the low shutter speed and the fact that you can't pause between shots, you HAVE to keep moving and a certain pace or Fuji tell you off and cancel your panorama. So I decided to take my own shots and merge in ICE and STILL it didn't come out right, despite being on a perfectly levelled tripod with the exposure locked I cannot get a seem free merge, it is sharp though! Grrr

I'm no expert on panoramas but if you are working with a wide angle lens I would have thought the parallax problems are likely to be accentuated. Are you using a panoramic head so you rotate around the nodal point of the lens (or using your thumb if you prefer handheld)?

Tell me about it. I cannot seem to get the right pace to pan around a shot. I either get there too early and the camera recognises that I've stopped and cancels the shot, or I get there too late so no panorama. You can reduce the swept area but I was in Rome last week and I couldn't remember how to do it. Silly me didn't take the handook did he and SWMBO doesn't like standing around for too long. GRRRR!

The ICE solution/problem is the same I have. It's nearly good enough, but not quite.

You have my sympathy.

I quite like this one, Alan. My rule of thumb for panoramas is not to use anything wider than about 35mm in FF equivalent, because of the problems Ian expressed. I never bother with tripods, just allow enough leeway for cropping after blending. ICE is a good program; however now being a Mac user I'm happy enough with PS. When I've done it in-camera I have to make sure the shutter speed never falls below 1/125th, but really you can't get a decent resolution.

A couple from me. The first is from a "Photography 102" class I took yesterday - just wanting to make sure I was right in all my assumptions made in 5 years of self-taught photographising! And the second is playing with the 35mm with one of my other favourite subjects.

I have to say I was looking at some old XT1 raw files using Irident Developer now that I have a Macbook and I'm really amazed how much better the processing of the RAF files is compared to Adobe Bridge, I always struggled with the output I was getting but Irident will make me revisit some of the shots I have on my hard drive!

I keep thinking about buying into the Fuji system as having manual dials for the main things really appeals to me but one of the small list of things that put me off is knowing that I wouldn't be able to get the thought that I wouldn't be getting the best out of the Fuji files when using Adobe products out of my mind, and I hate both the idea of buying another package and learning it.

There seem to be a number of bloggers and reviewers who don't seem to want to accept that Adobe doesn't do the best job with Fuji files and that other packages do better.

To be honest I'm very happy with Lightroom. I must have low standards.

Really nice, which lens did you use?

Exif says 18mm so I presume it was the 18-55 kit lens. I did have the 10-24 but it looks like I didn't put that on till later.
I may be out of sync with the world, but I think the kit lens is quite good.

Never owned the 18-55 but all the reviews and comments I read rave about it so I am not surprised with the results you are achieving with this lens :)

When I had X-T1 I only had the 18-55. It's performance was so good I never felt the need for anything else in that range. Later obtained the telephoto zoom. Wanted but didn't get the 10-24.

Sometimes think about going back just so I can have 10-24.

10-24 is good. You just have to be careful about distortion if going in close and wide. Easily manged in CS. Lovely and sharp too. Some complain that it's heavy, but I don't find it so, especially coming from a 5D3 set up.

While the 18-55 and 18-135 are "kit" lenses, it's not really fair on the other brands comparing them to their offerings! I've found that the XT-1 needs to be at 30+mm when shooting in the auto-stitch mode and it then delivers good results. The baby Xs don't lock off the exposure so you get pretty horrendous banding in most of the automatic pans shot with them.

Other than the 50-230, all the Fuji lenses (zooms) I have are fairly heavy, probably down to largely metal and glass construction. Still lighter than FF counterparts though!

Just went to change the clock on my X-T1 as per the reminder on the site, and found it was at the correct time. Is this a function of the software or what?

Just checked mine and it was at the wrong time. Are you sure you changed yours in the spring?

I use the XF18-55 as my everyday lens - I think it's incredible. (With both an X-E2 and X-T1)
Interestingly enough I bought an XF 16-50mm f2.8 - I returned after a week because I felt the image quality didn't justify the extra expense, and I don't need the f2.8.
I think it's a bit of a put down to call the 18-55mm a 'kit' lens.

Friend of mine has used most, if not all the fuji lenses he swears by the 18-55-then goes to the 10-24 for landscapes etc

Must agree, though I think it gets called that because it is the one supplied as part of the "kit".
Maybe standard lens, or even plain old 18-55 would be more appropriate.

Is it possible you already had it on GMT? I had to change mine manually.

You're both right. I thought the clocks had changed in the spring before I got the camera, but EXIF shows I first used it on 24th march and the clocks changed on the 29th. Mystery solved, thanks!

hopefully this will work now as used flickr
just getting used to the XT-10. Used the 18-55 (my only lens at present!) hopefully get into the for sale section soon and then keep my eyes open for a 10-24. alot of the photos I take are street art releated so need the wide angle. was eyeing up the sanyang 12mm as its more my budget but can extend to a used 10-24.
Hope you like the photo

I tend to keep all my cameras set to GMT rather than faff around changing them all twice a year (plus holidays.)

Hence my use of quotes when calling it such. As Frank says, it's called that since it is supplied in the kits (unless you opt for the 18-135 [which IMO makes a better partner for the X-T1 due to the WR]). Much better than the 18-55 Nikkor that is the Nikon equivalent and more solid feeling than the 18-70 which is among the best of the older generation of budget kit lenses. Of course, the Fuji isn't as cheap as the others!

@T_J_G Lovely shots of Amelia. The colour one really hits the mark.

none there at the moment but they are about £230 not I think.

If anyone is selling let me know - I could stretch to £200 if its mint, boxed etc

thanks

It's been an age since I used my X-T1, so if I ever get my Classifieds rights back on here I'd sell my 18-55 for £200 I think. Now the kids are both beyond the 'cute' stage  I don't tend to bother much with photography and it seems daft having a grands worth of kit sat in its bag doing nothing, especially with Christmas coming up. My issue is that both my sister and brother/sister in law are expecting their 1st children in December so if I get the urge back, I could have a busy time of it. My sister also gets married next year and again, could get the bug back.

Thanks but I picked one up of eBay when the 20% code was on

Very nice :)

The classifieds are a bit quiet these days not a lot going on at all :(

Adobe's is certainly a lot better than it was at the outset but it does seem to me that there are better packages for X-Trans out there, if only they'd hurry up with the X-Pro 2 and a 24mp sensor, that would probably be enough mp for me but I found 16mp not quite enough.

Very nice :)

It does seem to be quiet quiet in most of the classified sections, I've not had my wallet tempted for weeks!
