Lets say these are your basic setup...

So thats the 23.14 and 35 1.4 with Fuji = 855 or the 35 1.8g FX and 50 1.8g = £520, the Fuji 70-200 2.8 is £1065 and the Nikon 70-200 f4 is £900

Fuji = 1920 vs Nikon 1420

XT1 = £800 D610 = 1184

Package = F = £2720 N = £2604

I personally wouldnt use a Fuji to make money with, you can but imo there are better options. Fuji is not a cheap system if that has anything to do with your purchase, and thats APSC vs FF.

This is the issue I do have with mirrorless systems generally. You do pay a premium for the size. I need to try out the Fuji XT-10 really to see the size.
The Fuji system as said, is not cheap. I think it and the Sony full frame mirrorless are two of the most expensive systems out there if you look at the lenses. At least with DSLRs like Canon you have the nifty 50 etc. This is why I am somewhat happy with micro four thirds in that the lens line up is more mature and you can get going with some cracking primes for much less. But it still has expensive glass too. Sometimes I think too expensive.
Not a cheap hobbie I guess.

Thanks for the pics. Shame the new 35 is going to be f2.

I'm wondering if having the 18, 23 and 35 is a bit silly though.

Presumably the decision to go with F2 may bring benefits such as smaller/lighter and possibly faster to focus? If it does not, then....well.... I guess it will come down to price. If it is pitched at say £200 then it could be a winner, but anymore then perhaps people would rather have the f/1.4 even if the focus is a little slower.

It is when you're wanting f0.95. :D

Great pics btw, thanks everyone.

Yes but for MFT and when you take in the relative sensor sizes and apply the multipler to the aperture, you're not comparing like with like.

What you obviously need is either Canon FF camera with the 50mm f1.0 or a Leica FF camera with a Noctilux f0.95 or f1, then you can win the war and end the argument!!!

Yes but that's an equivalent 0.95 x 1.5 on the Fuji (compared to the FF) so only gives the equivalent of approx f1.4 on a full frame. To do really shallow DOF you need FF (or bigger) (but you didn't want to hear that.....)

I sense camerapricebuster and the classifieds being scanned in a frenzied hurry...........

Use the DOF calculator here http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/digital-camera-sensor-size.htm

In all seriousness (even as a 35mm owner, my least used lens) I would do that. The 35mm on an X-E1 has the focussing spend of an asthmatic snail, so you probably would limit yourself to using it on the XT-1. In your shoes I'd go for the 56mm, because you are lusting after it already.........

These issues between manufacturers systems is why I run multiple systems, I just try not to duplicate too much glass on each system. Each system has an intended use, and I try to buy glass to meet that use, rather than one system for all

Been there done that, a7 + mitakon f0.95. Do I win an argument?

Maybe but is it an argument worth having? Personally (and sorry to people who have seen me post this 100 times...) I think that the shallow DoF thing gets beaten to death. I'm a bit of a shallow DoF fan myself be even so I've spend most of my picture taking life trying to get more DoF not less and with f1.2, 1.4 and even f1.8 lenses it's possible to get very shallow DoF on APS-C and even MFT by using long lenses and reducing the camera to subject distance. It wont be the same picture as a FF picture taken with the same aperture and your framing will be different but it'll still be a shallow DoF picture if that's your main aim.

Anyway, IMVHO the MFT v APS-C v FF shallow DoF thing is over rated.

I agree. I've never had a client say, "Mmm, I wish they was less dof in these shots"...

In fact my girlfriend always complains about shallow DoF, although I just can't stop myself :p

Based on pro blogs I've read online. Obviously I'll try one first. The factor I have mentioned is my health. Holding a smaller package appeals to me based on my weedy health. :)

I think if I remember correctly we have similar health issues Dean. I am now using a D750 after chopping the Fuji due to the delay of long lenses. I only have the 50mm f1.8g prime and a couple of zooms and for me using the prime, there's not a great deal of weight difference between the two systems. The D750 is lovely to hold for me with the deep grip and if I was shooting proffesionally I would go with the Nikon.

An example, my wifes friend called over on Sunday with her dog and with ours playing in the garden I was able to nail focus and I probably had over 90% keeper rate. I haven't gone through them all yet, but when I had the Fuji it would have been a lot less. Must say though, that I sold my XT before the last FW update so not sure if that would make difference or the upcoming one.

When funds allow I will buy another XT1 and a 35mm for days out etc............ as it was small enough for her to chuck in her handbag to save me carrying.
