The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Looks a bit pants compared to the XT1. Wouldve been nice to see a new sensor from Fuji.

I think the sensor very good on the Fuji fine for what i shoot, plus if they put a new sensor in it would have forced them to think about replacing the XT-1 quicker than they might have want to :)

So you mean the graphite edition then? I thought you meant proper chrome!

That vid is on the previous page... Twice. :D

So what new sensor do people want to see? I'm quite happy.

Yep the graphite ed.

Same here quite happy with the sensor :)

Maybe large format and a billion pixels? :D

Just because it has an okay sensor doesnt mean its okay to sit on their backsides while everyone else is developing and just chuck out a new FW every few months.

True ISO and and an increase in MP would be welcome. Also the cooked in noise reduction needs to be calmed down a little.

I'd be majorly p***ed if they put a new/better sensor in their new entry level body.

Thats called progress, everybody else does it with AF/sensor development, just the way it is.

Lol. They haven't released a new flagship camera, they have released a lower model. Why on earth would they put a new sensor into it?

Maybe the new XP2/X-T2 will feature a 'better' sensor. Surely that would make more sense?

some other firms wouldn't bother releasing a new AF system via FW, they'd flog you a new camera instead. Fuji have really been making their lens line up fairly strong by releasing a number of lenses over the last few months aswell. Perhaps their priorities lie in other areas before releasing new range topping cameras to go with them.

Is there any real need for bigger/denser sensors? The current crop in the X-T1 and X-Pro1 can deliver great A3+ prints and few people need (or even want) to go much bigger than that. Yes, less noise at high ISOs will be nice (not would, will! It's coming, sure as eggs is eggs.) as would a lower base ISO for long exposures without the need for filtration (again, I'm sure it'll happen before too long.) More DR is also almost certainly on the way. We don't need bigger, we need better IMO.

Their flagships happen more than 2 years apart, thats a long time apart for any significant sensor development. I never said anything about lenses which are the systems strong point, I acknowledged the FW updates which are good from the consumers POV. Ive had enough Fuji cameras to know what the pros and cons are. Id just like to see some work on the sensor and I think a lot of people would. Its a very strong mirrorless system, my favourite in fact.

I never said bigger, more MP have advantages, doesnt need to be loads more, especially with the excellent Fuji glass.

We need better.

David mentioned "large format and a billion pixels" - I know it was in jest but as my sig says, "many a true word spoken in jest"! Have to admit that I'm looking forward to the long zoom so I don't have to crop so heavily into shots from the 200 end of my longest Fuji lens!

I guess we'll have to wait till ?next year? to find out what the XP2 brings. Its been a long wait so hoping for good things.

I think they need to look at other areas before the sensor. A faster flash sync speed/hss for one and as Nod says, a base iso of 100 in RAW. I also think they need to work closer with adobe to help them get the best from the current sensor.

Their sensor imo is pretty good. More capable than my D7000/D7100 for sure.

Never been lucky enough to own a FF camera so maybe I'm missing a trick but for me the crop sensor in the Fuji is a winner.

I thought the xp2 was coming this year? It seems to have been out for ages.

I hope it does but I think theyll push the XT1 for the remainder of this year/early next. XT1 release was Jan 2014.

I would like to see an even slower sensor than ISO100 TBH. I already have that in my D750 (in fact, it'll go down to effectively ISO50 using Lo1) but it doesn't allow long exposures (as in several seconds in decent light). Not that I'm a huge fan of milky water, just that it would be nice to lose faster moving elements from some scenes!

You can hardly accuse Fuji of taking their time. They have built some great cameras but far more importantly some of the best lenses around and all this in a very, very short period of time.

The xpro 2 will come early next year and that makes sense.

I actually want them to slow down development as I spend too much money on Fuji X gear

Yes, there is, actually. I came to the X-T1 from a D800 and, while I prefer the Fuji for a lot of reasons, I do miss the resolution. The greater resolution means that you can crop and only carry a single prine lens rather than carry a bag full of lenses or a zoom. For the most part, you don't notice the increase in noise because you don't compare shots on a 1:1 pixel ratio. Bigger sensors are nicer because of depth of field issues though, for me, not if you sacrifice body size.

If they bring out a 24 MP sensor, I'll be in the queue.

Nikon have had 3 different sensor in their Series 1 cameras, and has made very little different in its sales :)

If you need to crop that often, the problem is not with the system, sorry its with the user ?

I cropped an image from 16mp to 1.3mp and the detail was STILL all there and as sharp as a sharp thing.

I think a 20-24mp sensor will come though.

Sure it may have been on a smaller screen at low dpi.But what size was the file at 300dpi for a good print ;)

They aren't even trying, they know where there target audience is.

I think it can cause a lot of confusion among users if your forever changing your sensors,Fuji have often stated when they feel the need for an larger they will bring one out,but at the moment they don't feel the need.
I guess if your unhappy with Fuji sensors, maybe time for those user to look for another system :)

Couldn't have put it better myself, they've built a near fully rounded APS-C system in 3 years and not really put a foot wrong. The lens line up is absolutely insane for a 3 year old system, we've almost got every classic focal length in extremely high quality, very fast, sharp form. The scary thing is, short of a native fisheye an tilt shift, they've pretty much got a complete system announced now. The only question mark is around a super tele prime, but the system isn't there to take advantage of that yet.

CaNikon haven't given their APS-C users most of these focal lengths in god knows how long, I can't believe that neither system has anything approaching a decent fast 35 equivalent, let alone a 24, 85 or 135.

Would you make that criticism of anyone using a zoom? It's effectively the same thing.

'Derriere La Gare St Lazare' by Cartier Bresson was quite a savage crop. Did he need to improve his technique?

To your Edit,i didn't say never crop, but if your doing it all the the time

No because they chose the right tool for the job. It's not the same thing at all.
