I had ok results with my 55-200mm but I am getting excellent results with my 35mm. I will put down to little experience with tracking using a mirrorless camera and hopefully my hit rate will get better with all my lenses the more I use the camera.

I know exactly what you mean but I still think the DSLR (I take it you will be using your D700) should give you a better hit rate and the conditions and lighting varies.
 
I have too agree with the AF-C im also getting great results also shooting my kids running around at the park or playing in general i get a good amount of keepers its by far best CSC ive owned for its AF-C and i have had loads of Panasonics and Olympus such as the E-M5 which was very fast getting initial focus but struggled then with tracking,
I have used the kit lens and 55-200mm for kids on the move.. I've not tried my 35mm with them running about as much as i like it i do prefer a zoom when there on the move :)

The face detection which i found handy and excellent on the E-M5 isn't nowhere near as good on the X-T1 its very hit and miss at picking peoples faces up yet knowing Fuji they might improve that in a update, I know people aren't too bothered about face detection but i find it useful to grab quick "of the moment" type shots with kids rather than thinking i need move my AF point first and missing a photo :rolleyes:

Well, I'm going to go to both days so will probably take both systems on Saturday but just one on the Sunday. Pretty sure the X-T will be the tool of choice for the paddock/pits type detail shots but the D700 will probably be better as they fly up the hill. It's almost half tempting to go purely for the spectacle of the cars rather than as a photographic expedition - I have shots of all the interesting cars from previous years (from the Sunday VSCC meet) but haven't been to the Saturday one before (500 Club - some overlap with the VSCC but not much!) I'll have the car there so will be able to leave any kit not in use in a relatively secure place.

Very tempted to chop my 60mm Macro in against a 10-24 - the 60mm was my choice of free lens with the deal on the X-Pro1 but it's not true (1:1) Macro and I have the Nikkor 105 VR for that purpose. In practise, the Macro mode on the baby Xs is good enough for me most of the time anyway.

I agree, the face detection on the Fuji is not as good as other CSCs in my experience. I even get better face detection focus with my camera phone, so let us hope that Fuji can get this sorted in a firmware update as I also think that face detection can be very useful
 
Has anyone else got the Fuji 14mm lens? Just wondered how noisy the autofocus motor is as mine seems fairly loud. In a quiet room it can easily be heard 20ft away. I can feel vibrations through the camera body too, wondering if i should return it. The 18-55 is totally silent by comparison.

This sounds wrong. Mine is not as quiet as my pro Nikon lenses but surely it does not cause the camera to vibrate
 
I would certainly take / send it back. Presumably it's still covered by warranty or send it off Fuji. I don't own one but have given one a road test it didn't do that. I was quite impressed with its performance.
 
Yes, the 14mm F2.8's performance is amazing, wide open and stepped down. I m hoping that the rumored 16mm f1.4 will be the same or even better

Hi just tried mine, the focusing seem find on mine, not total silent of the 18-55mm,can't feel any vibration
 
Thanks guys, I'm going to send it back. Really annoying as it's from Panamoz, hopefully there'll be no fuss.

Can you feel any vibration from the AF though the body? That video doesn't sound to dissimilar to mine.
I had the mic just a couple of inches from the camera, also placed on a hard ceramic surface which I think reflects the sound a little more.
 
Of course it's how close your lens is to the mic,and the setting on the mic,all my fixed lens 14mm 35mm 23mm,make some noise when focussing,they are not as smooth as say the 18-55mm,the loudest one was the 60mm .

Must have been writhing at the as the same time :D,but I can't feel any vibration thought my body :)
 
I don't feel vibrations through the camera.

If you turn the camera off and put the lens in manual focus, does the focus ring feel smooth and quiet?

Yes, and if i detach the lens and turn the focus ring it's also silent. It's only noisy when its powered up.

TNT are collecting it tomorrow to ship back to Panamoz (HK), nervous as hell but i guess it's the risk we take :/

It is a risk one takes from buying grey products and that is the second reason why I don't buy grey. I ll keep the first reason to myself :D

From what I read in this forum, Panamoz seems to be good when it comes to customer service so hopefully you will get a good service :)

I have a feeling your lens is Ok but no harm in having it checked I guess. I ll have a go at another 14mm when I m next at my local camera store and will let you know how it goes.

To be honest i've been thinking the same as it operates as it should. If it was a £200 lens i wouldn't be bothered so much but i find it annoying to use, both the sound and vibrations. Tina at Panamoz has been good with her replies so have to say they seem to be living up to their good reputation. The import option was the only way i could afford an xt1, otherwise it would have been an xpro1 or similar, but i didn't like the form factor as much. Have to say the xt1 is an incredible camera. The images are massively better than anything produced on my Nikon, i've reshot similar locations and i'm astounded by the difference. I'm glad i went the import route but would still prefer to source in the UK but i can't argue as I've saved over £500.
 
Wow, that is a huge saving.

At least you are getting replies back from Tina which is great customer service. Wish I can say the same about Fuji UK, they do not reply to any of my emails unless I complain on their twitter/Facebook pages :(
 
Panamoz tend to reply once a day, if i message them during the day or evening theres always a reply by the following morning. Theres a 2 year warranty that's covered by Panamoz too and i've no reason to doubt that. What problems are you having with Fuji? Sorry if you've already said in a previous post, isn't it covered at the store where you purchased it?
 
I'm waiting for Fuji UK to reply to emails I sent 10 to 14 days ago. Some I had to wait more than that and only got a reply after tweeting a complaint. My emails were queries about warranties and technical issues
 
I've been fairly lucky,that most of mine Fuji stuff has come with a good deal buying thought the UK,not always,their can be some good saving buying imports.
I think it's the new 6year ruling on g/tee that keep me buying UK :)

Not sure if this is the address you're using but they were very prompt with their replies (and service) when I had occasion to use them. fujitec@Fuji.co.uk

Yes, this is the same email address. From my own experience it is a bit worrying. I never had any issues with Nikon and always got a reply within hours.
 
Normally Fuji are very quick but one can only deduce that that they are being inundated with problems ? I would give them a phone on 0844 553 2323 to clarify the situation.

Hi, This has been my only gripe with the X-T1, I've been trying to make something up from other eye cups that I have but sadly without success. Thanks for the heads up.

"Although the X-T1 feels like more of a complete package at launch than its predecessors, Imai says the team has already collated a list of 140 potential improvements based on customer feedback. The most requested addition is the ability to instantly select an autofocus point with the D-pad; right now you can customize each rear button to activate that mode before making your selection, but some would rather save the additional button press. "There are pros and cons which we need to carefully check and investigate, but some of the points we think we should do as quickly as possible," says Imai. "For example, the movie button — many customers say that this is too easy to press. So that is the kind of thing that we should improve as soon as possible." Fujifilm plans to make this button customizable in a future update."

140 potential improvements :thinking: but how many of these can be applied within a firmware update :D
 
Used my X-T1 at a wedding today and after a few hours I noticed the top left-hand corner of my second ExpertShield protector had creased somehow. After a few more hours, here's how it looked.

As you can see, the protector is a perfect fit. Perhaps, it's just too good a fit which makes it susceptible to damage?

For installation, I cleaned the screen with isopropyl alchohol and also fitted in a slightly steamy shower room. For the first 2 weeks of being fitted, it's been fine. Now, it's 2-for-2 that have failed on me. Not sure I want to bother with a third attempt now.
 
I've had that lifting problem on other devices. If it's a really tight fit to the surrounds of the screen then any flexing of the surround at all will lift the protector by buckling it up.

Same here but not as bad as shown in your post. I really would prefer to get the glass screen protector but the only one available currently that is a perfect fit has a silver outline that I m not too keen on. My expert shield will do for now

Had a go at a 14mm lens at my local camera store. It was a tiny bit quieter than mine but you really had to have your ear on the lens to notice the difference.

I've ordered the ACMAXX. It's poly-carbonate as opposed to glass, but hopefully it'll do a better job of staying stuck. It's also got a silver outline which is preferable to an ineffective protector.
 
I've been thinking about picking up a new camera setup for a while now and today I decided to make a trip to Wilkinson Cameras to get some hands on time with a 5DMKIII.

After handling the 5DMKIII I got into an interesting conversation with one of the staff about the X-T1 and ended up having a good play about with one they had in stock. The staff member was really knowledgeable and actually showed me some of his portfolio online which he'd shot with the X-T1.

Personally I can see that Fuji have made a vast improvement in the AF speed, although I still found it sluggish under certain conditions, hunting before locking on. Although this was with the 35mm and the AF points reduced to their smallest size. How much of the sluggishness was a result of the older mechanics of the 35mm versus the camera, I couldn't say.

I must admit the viewfinder was nothing short of amazing, the size, brightness and colour made it very comfortable to use. I was also impressed by the spilt screen manual focus assist.

I'm not sure whether or not it will tempt me away from the 5DMKII setup but it doesn't hurt that I could pickup a body, 14mm, 23mm, 35mm, 56mm and battery grip for less than the 5D and a 24-70.
