The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

It's a good lens that. I hope you are treating it well.
Not as good as it's Mark 2 replacement which gets used nearly every time I go out. Never leave home without it.

Go on then, sounds like a sales pitch to me, thirty quid for this one if it's better (for those newcomers I bought Frank's broken integrated hood mk1 for 25 quid)
Bit of card, glue and silver paint, jobs a good'un and worked a treat, lens cap still fitted too

Has anyone moved from their XF35mm f1.4 to the newer XF35 f/2 WR at all.....? I'm sorely tempted.

I have both. I started with the f1.4 then decided to get the f2 and sell the f1.4. Now I am struggling to decide which one to keep and which one to sell.

The 1.4 is sharp wide open and obviously is 1.4. The f2 is fast, quiet, sharp wide open but only at f2 ;) and WR. I did think of putting them both on sale and keep the one that does not sell first, still thinking about it :fuji:

What about overall rendering, don't you find the f1.4 gives the nicer images?

Not sure I'd call them bargains TBH. £369 for the 35mm f2 compared with £180 for the Nikon 50mm f1.8, or £100 for the Canon 50mm f1.8. The Canon 50mm f1.4 is still £69 cheaper than the 35mm f2. Granted the Fuji is weather sealed, but a bargain? ;)
I am no expert on lens manufacture, but I have the feeling that equating an APS-C 35mm with a full frame 50mm just because they have the same angle of view isn't quite cricket :-)

It's not exactly but they are close enough and a good comparison optically, and besides we're only discussing value for money ;)

If you want to compare a dx lens then the 35mm f1.8 dx is £175, half the price of the Fuji, and is a very good lens optically :p

I'm not knocking Fuji btw, there's no doubt their lenses are very good. I just wouldn't call them a bargain (new)

Sorry bargain was more to describe the older ones (18/35/60).... agree the 35 isn't cheap compared to say the Nikon 50 1.8 but the 23mm is pretty well priced v the competition, in fact almost exactly the same (NIkon 35/1.8G or Canon f2)

Personally I think the 35/1.4 is one of Fuji's nicest rendering lenses. I love it! But I want the 35/2 as well for its AF. But not as much as I want the 23/2. I have issues.

The Fuji 35/2 is a nice lens but I missed the faster f1.4 of my other glass, that said the AF was like lightning on the X-Pro 2 so I imagine its even better on an XT2.
My only gripe with the f1.4 is the noise, the sort of juddering/rattling it does sometimes when it focuses. It's OK most of the time, but not when you're in a quiet environment. I've been asked to take some shots during the minutes silence on Remembrance Sunday and thought I'd use the 35mm f1.4, but I'm a bit paranoid about the noise, especially as the rest of the camera operation will be in stealth mode.

XT2 with 35mm f2 and 56mm is my starting point very tempted but no where got body in stock only kit

Before you jump ship what is it you're hoping the XT2 will give you that your Sony can't?

More lens choice for start with.

And looking at some test on dp review better noise handling but not sure on DR

Does Fuji have more lenses? Which A7 do you have?

But I need to try one of these before I decide am hoping the wheel at the back to change aperture or shutter is better placed than the sony as I find it awkward sometime.. keep turning the compensate wheel

A7II pal If it was the A7Rii I would change lol
I don't think you'll find the Fuji sensor better than the A7II for noise and DR TBH. It's difficult to fully assess the Fuji for noise handling as the apply some NR, even to the RAWs and it does mean you can lose quite a bit of detail. I don't think anyone truly knows why Fuji does this.

You don't tend to use it for that on the Fuji TBH. Aperture is set on the lens, shutter by the dial on top (unless you want to do 1/3 stops in which case you need to 'fine tune' with the control dial).

Sounds much easier way and less hassle lol.. That sounds a better control

Unless it's the 27mm or XC lenses, of course. But that's starting to confuse things ...

For the most part it is. It's also nice to have an exposure comp dial so that you can quickly and easily see what you have dialled in. My only gripe is that it would be nice if they put aperture markings on all lenses rather than just a few. If they did this you wouldn't have to refer to the screen/viewfinder at all to see/check your exposure settings. Minor point, especially as you have to do this for most cameras these days.

(I do wish they would bring back aperture rings and distance scales on all lenses on all brands, I'm convinced it's just cost cutting)

I'm after a 35 F2, willing to trade my 27mm 2.8 for one plus whatever the difference. If that takes your fancy?

Wow go out for a few hours and we're 3 pages further along!!

Some great city images here (y)

I can never be arsed to drag my tripod into London on a commuter train :(

Either of the 35's is next on my list. Just waiting for one to drop in the classifieds.....

Just to say, looks like the new 24mp sensor performs much better with regards nr. The DP Review comparison tool shows a lot more detail even at the same size as the 16mp images from the X trans ii cameras.

Didn't use a tripod for the one above!
Makes sense - any shutter speed slow enough to smooth out the water will blur the moving boats. What speed did you end up with in the end, and did you need to boost the ISO above base (I'm guessing yes)?
