The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

I'm saying that XT-4 + 23 will soon turn into an XT-4 plus 3-4 other lenses and empty his wallet LOL

I'd go for the X100V and walk up to the tree.
@YoshiK1 Agreed, or use the digital zoom and/or a cheap TCL, which will give 100mm equivalent

Thanks for the back up. I keep forgetting about the digital zoom so that's another point I'll be mentioning and might actually be the decider!

Probably been covered a million times here but there's a lot of pages to look through to find that answer. Got a mate in a bit of a pickle with which camera to get.

He's stuck between an X100V and X-T4. I've told him I've got/had both (still got X100V) and said the X100V was nice and good fun to use because it was simple and didn't have to worry about lenses to choose etc. His arguement against it is it's versatility. He doesn't have the freedom to change lenses for longer focal lengths however he's checked his images and he's like me that he doesn't really take longer images but likes to zoom in on trees about the 70-100mm focal length. He says he can pay the extra and get an X-T4 with 23mm which is the same as the X100V. Of course I advised it wasn't as fun. What we saying to this?

Id go for the xt4 if it was my only camera.

V and leg zoom

Photography isn't about the more expensive camera or changing lenses, it's the enjoyment from using the camera. I own both and would ditch the xt4 and keep the v any day. I enjoy using the V. You have to use the lens and not a zoom ring or swap lenses out. I may miss out on odd shots by being fixed but I take hundreds more by wanting to go out with the V. I literally have to force myself to use the xt4. I should be going out with it tomorrow but I may end up taking the F or V.

I found the same. That's basically what I was hoping for when I sold my X-T4 for the X100V. It's most definitely the funnest camera I've ever used and being able to carry it with me anywhere is a real bonus instead of a big bag (in comparison) swinging about or taking up space.

Totally depressing mate, I used to go at least once a fortnight to do some street but lost interest now. It's also hard to blend into the background without the volume of people, i'm no shrinking violet but i'm not wandering around with expensive gear because one thing that hasn't changed is the scumbags that target anyone with anything valuable. Sadiq Khan has turned it into a third world s***hole in record time.

I have to agree with you there, Pete. But table service in the pub helped a little ;)
It was a strange feeling though, with kinda crowded bits, and equally totally dead bits. Busy is better in town. Next time I go up, I might try the museums ;)

The leaked images of the soon to be announced Fuji 50mm F1.0 look really good. I know it's going to be big but I don't mind that, just hoping it will be faster than the 56mm F1.2 lens.

Just watched Gordon Laing's 3-way comparison between the F/1, the 56 1.2 and the 50 F2. And all I got from it was that the whole bokeh fascination thing has gotten truly ridiculous. He 'wasn't allowed' show close up comparisons, but I know from what I saw that this monster just made the 50mm F2 look so good for the money. You can actually achieve nicer bokeh with the F2! [for smaller subjects] because it can focus much closer - that has always been one of the main reasons I never tried the 56 1.2, crappy CFD. Of course you will get shallower DOF using the F/1 for further back images, like full length portraits but the difference isn't as insane as some might imagine [depending on distance between subject and backdrop of course] - when it is at it's extreme I find the images have a photo-shopped look, as if blur was just chucked on during post, they never really look natural to me. But, those obsessed with that look they like to refer to as 'pop' , who also have deep pockets, will very likely love it.

Putting my hand up that I want it as probably fit your description (without the deep pockets) :)

Have just been reading some reviews. Very close to the 90mm at f2 apparently. If it is and if it performs well with AF etc I'll be very very interested.

Focus motors at the rear of the lens to assist with focus speed so I'd like to see how it compares to other lenses. so I'll await reviews from those are arnt associated with fuji. It needs to be considerably faster than the 1.2.

It's been described as being not optically perfect but with some character and "magic" found in the xf 35 f1.4. Fanboy will lap that up.

I shoot a lot of environmental portraits so isolation at distance is something important to me (particularly with wider lenses) otherwise the OOF just looks a bit uncontrolled/nervous.

Agreed, the 56 is also just to slow for my use. Not to worried about ultimate sharpness but decent CA control and no onion rings would be nice.

I can see a definite market for it, and if it's your type of thing all good. For me, I love seeing the gear 1/5th the cost standing up pretty well against. That 50F2 still impresses me, it's one I would have held on to if I didn't find the FL just too 'in between' for my liking on APSC. It might 'only' be F2, but it's one of those lenses that just does it from the off, it doesn't require any stopping down to be sharp as you like, and it's got very good CFD for the FL at 39cm. This F/1 can only get down to 70cm which won't matter to the average portrait photographer but to me that's just never going to cut it.

which is why the 90mm was always a favourite of mine. this could provide that easier working distance. and f1.0 for low light isn't to be sniffed at.

lenses that have been released in recent times really shouldn't need stopping down to make them acceptably sharp imo. 50mm f2 on crop just doesn't do it for me for the stuff i shoot, but i know its very popular for the reasons you've stated.

the f1 minimum focus is the same as the 56 which i never found an issue - so yeah its all going to be about how you like to shoot. the good thing is theres options for all.

mark ii versions of the 56 & 56 apd would be the icing on the cake.

Yeah, thats the other big benefit, equals that lowlight stop advantage FF has over APSC.

Could always ad a tube/filter if you want to get closer.

This is tremendous. Good capture.

@ALL - My mates decided to go with the X100V ;). He's looking for a TCL and WCL. Anyone got one coming up for sale in black? Can be either 1st or 2nd version.

Awesome camera, if only it was f1.4 (for me).

I'm currently deciding between adding the X100V or the Sigma Art 35mm 1.2 for the Sony

Hello Fujifilm owners. I tried out my xt3 for the first time today and I have some issues I hope you can help me with?. I am shooting in raw and jpeg, but only the jpegs are coming out correctly. The raw files are looking like a 16.9 image and are only 6.33 mp. I tried shooting raw only and I am getting the same result. The card I am using is a sandisk 170 mb. I am sure it is probably op error! all help gratefully received, many thanks Haddock

As @Mr Perceptive says, check the image size settings. You can change this from the Q menu if it hasn't been altered.

Thank you. Dont think your mate will be disappointed. I'm off to the lakes with swmbo for 2 weeks this weekend I can see the V and the converters doing 90% off my shooting.

Yes, but if Cageys saying the MFD is to far then that will happen.... or stop down.

Using tubes is no sub for decent cfd. It's very different as with tubes you're stuck with the new cfd, you cant just whip aroind and grab a standard shot without screwing them off.

I think if you're always going to chase more extreme shallow dof and compare equivalent to ff [in general not directed at you] you're best just go ff. F2 on Apsc these days is plenty for most situations bar indoors with bad lighting and even then 1.4 tends to just do the job. I'd honestly make much more use of that Viltrox 23 1.4 than I would a 50 f/1. But, it's nice to see the option I guess ... because for the money seeing others use it is all I will have :D

It shouldn't but often does for max sharpness. In fact most lenses benefit from it, even high end on any system. Some just have that bit extra wide open to start, the 50F2 doesnt suffer that soft glow crap at its cfd wide open like the 23 and 35f2 for best example, what I was getting at really. The oft hailed 35 1.4 suffers this too, at 1.4, but has the benefit of being stopped down to F2 to match the others on top.

Just spotted although I spent 20 mins at this spot due to the lack of people about this was actually the first shot I took.

Excellent, though I'd still think it just as spot on if you knew the child and told them to run through.

And the TCL will stay in the bag (most if not all the time) - go lightweight X100V + WCL - I took X100F+WCL+TCL+Fisheye adapter to Rome for 5 days a couple of years ago, never used the TCL, used the Fisheye for one shot (I took specially for the shot of the Vatican Spiral Staircase), most of the time had the X100F over my shoulder, WCL + spare battery in pocket.

I'm back in Wales this weekend, and although I've packed the bag with lots of goodies, I bet 90% of the shooting is with the F, and I need the F+WCL to act as a Lightmeter for the GSW690III :)

At least you figured it out, wasn't 100% sure there was an display icon for it on the xt3.

Enjoy your afternoon with it(y)
