The Dress that broke the internet is what colour?

who cares, arse still huge

They had an expert on the radio explaining it was due to the way the brain was interpreting it. As we normally see in daylight with blues for the sky or warm colours from the sun, our brains interpret those colours and correct accordingly. Hence the difference depending on which colour you corrected for.
Interestingly, he said that predominately younger people saw white and gold, where nearly all older (over 50 was mentioned) saw black and blue.

I saw blue & gold, so I mustn't really be nearly 60. Yeehaw!

Still the answer to the question is quite simple, look at the background, it's about ten stops over exposed, so is the dress, load it into Photoshop and dial down the exposure till the background looks correct and low and behold the dress looks black and blue.

And to think so many people think camera phones will replace a dedicated camera, not while they are producing rubbish like this they won't, well I hope not

How do you explain. Both myself and the mrs looking at the same screen at the same time but I saw white and gold and she saw Blue and black.

I then took a shot of the screen. Looked at it and still saw white and gold. However 3 hours later when showing it the someone else I saw blue and black. And now can't see white and gold again

Has no one colour sampled it in adobe P/s ?

# 838cb8 & # 6e6241

White is #ffffff
Black is # 000000

Someone did that much earlier in the day, tweeted a screen shot of the results which Adobe picked up on and confirmed it was accurate, blue and black.

The reason does seem to be colour interpretation, though curiously, right from the start I have seen it on every computer/phone screen I tried as blue/black, until they show it on TV, when I see it as white/gold, even though I know how I should be seeing it. [in my mid 40's btw, in reference to the age comment above]

Yes, it's relatively insignificant in the grand scheme of things to have caused such a discussion point, but as one brain expert from I think, Liverpool University, said, this happens to all of us regularly, but usually the differences are far less extreme so it isn't generally picked up on, this is the most extreme case he has ever seen [he saw it as white/gold]

For those that see the white dress, I'm about to break your eyes

?? They are all blue and black [the middle one corrected to its proper shades by the look of it], am I missing something?

Edit: oh sorry, you said for those that see white... sorry, will shut up now and go to bed

I've always agreed with a pale blue, well lavender / violet or whatever its called,
but its certainly not black to my eyes or the sampling I did, burnt gold or dirty brown maybe.
But all this is quite scary considering we all edit images :D

Funnily enough, J said the same, its kind of brown and cornflower blue and yes, to describe it exactly, that is what I see... however, the photographer in me sees crap interior lighting and lousy phone picture and pretty much automatically assumes the rest - it's a blue and black dress badly photographed. The whole blue balck comes from the fact that is actually what it is and has been broadcast right from the off as such, so even if you see mid blue and dirty brown, you know what you are seeing is black/blue, definitely not the other option of white and gold, if that makes sense?

Yeah I get what you are saying :)
( I think :D)

I suspect that the white / gold was a rumour started by someone pimping TBH :D

I am hoping my website hits have gone through the roof

and on that note, I really am going to bed, 6am alarm set
You never know your luck :D

6am? but its Saturday !
Don't work too hard :)

That was exactly my reasoning in the office today when the White/gold gang argued that since my colori meter showed an olive it couldn't possibly be black and thus I must be wrong about the blue as well. :God:

But was it a black, green or reddish olive?

I saw something entirely different this morning, but I'm assuming that it was just due to not having had my breakfast...

question is, was it smoked or not...

I'd say smoked but looks like it could do with re-visiting the pan for a couple of minutes longer :D

I wouldn't be surprised if that dress become the latest most wanted fashion item . . .

Weird! I heard them talking about this on Talksport on my way home on Friday, but didn't really pay attention. Got home, flicked on the web and see it mentioned here and there and all the photos I see are white and gold (or near enough).

This morning, I notice the photo on my FB again and it's still W&G, but an ITV news link to the actual dress seller declaring it to be definitely blue & black has the photo indeed as B&B.
Now, when I go to my FB, the photo that was W&G, is now B&B.

And I have to say, i think it's a nice dress

No in her case the blood which may come from her or someone else would instigate a very different conversation. But none of that is applicable to this dress though.

You can always start your own thread and get that conversation going

For one minute there I thought you were talking to me :D

I was.

He's probably tried drowning his old age sorrows with some Scotch on his all-bran at breakfast so is seeing colours a bit oddly... ;)
Well I've read the whole thread and I'm shocked at this comment! Scotch on your all bran? Yuk! Baileys Irish cream much nicer!
