But you'd have a 70-210mm f2.8 that weighs 1507g instead of the current 70-200mm GM2 that weighs 1045g.I can see the draw in it if it works with TCs
You'd have 70-210 f2.8 with 1.4x and 100-300 f4 with 2x
Yeah but the current 70-200mm can't also become an 50-150mm f2But you'd have a 70-210mm f2.8 that weighs 1507g instead of the current 70-200mm GM2 that weighs 1045g.
Sony obviously feel there's a market for it, but I'm not sure what market they're aiming it at![]()
and £30 discount code GG2025EGG. which expires today or tomorrow IIRC.1189 from Cotswolds![]()

Looks like a beastSony 50-150.View attachment 451371
Not really something I would use personally as I borrowed a friends 35-150 and while it was good, didn’t fit my needs.
Anyone interested in getting one?
If it took the TCs then I think I would have been a definite buyer if not an early adopter. The fact it doesn't puts me off slightly but it would break my heart selling the 70-200mm GM2. As it is I think I could sell my two 85mm, 135mm and Tamron 35-150 and but the 50-150 which would get way more use than those three lenses combined. If the dollar price is 3500 as some reviewers are stating as the bottom of the range then the importers will have it under £3K very quickly. I'm talking myself into it as I type and already owning the 28-70mm F2 makes me appreciate the fast zooms all the moreNo teleconveter support is bit of a deal breaker.
It's like owning a supercar speed limited to 70mph![]()
It is lighter than the previous generation 70-200s. The biggest difference between this and the Tamron lens ,which I dare say is its closest comparator, is that this will continue to hold focus as you zoom. In fast moving situations where players or performers are changing distance relative to the camera and you are altering framing the Tamron is very poor compared to newer GM lenses. As that situation is what I mostly shoot my Tamron gets very little us. Also because of the trombone style I don't enjoy using it.Looks like a beast
I can't believe it's not got TC compatibility. TBH, I wasn't aware of how few lenses have TC compatibility until last week, I just assumed all GM lenses would and maybe even some G lensesNo teleconveter support is bit of a deal breaker.

I presume the optical formula doesn't allow the gap required for a TC to physically fit. I wonder if it was a deliberate choice so you can't make it a 70-210 F2.8I can't believe it's not got TC compatibility. I’ve just seen it doesn’t have OSS eitherI presume the optical formula doesn't allow the gap required for a TC to physically fit. I wonder if it was a deliberate choice so you can't make it a 70-210 F2.8
I'm not bothered with that. I dare say it may be useful for portraits in dark conditions but with bodies now having 5 or more stops and an F2 aperture I'm not sure it is needed. It is pretty easy to hold a 150mm lens steady with a few stops of stabilisation. I'm struggling to think of when you would choose the alternatives, most of which don't have OSS anyways. The 70-200mm GM2 would be the main competitor but it would have to be a pretty low shutter for it to make a difference. It would then be a static subject you were probably looking to shoot. I like that Sony are not afraid to create products for niche markets. It is a lot of money but then it is a lot of lens with no real competitor for that niche market. It will be killer for indoor sports and eventsI’ve just seen it doesn’t have OSS either![]()

I was more thinking about the A9III as that is my main work camera.I doubt it, the Cii/CR and new higher end bodies have an extra ML accelerator other cameras don’t.
This is “subscription for heated seats” levels of madness:
- The Custom Grid Line feature is available as a paid license. Availability depends on country and region.
I have the firmware on a card and camera charging, will update later…
Had a bad day at the office today, went to the BSB testing at Oulton Park and struggled to get under 1/50s shutter speed. Not sure why, just one of those days I guess
Hopefully I'll have a few decent shots though![]()
I think the in-body stabilisation would suffice for that but not sure how that does in panning mode. To be honest when I pan I rarely move the mode setting on the lens. I'll be doing some tomorrow for the Athletics so must remember to put it in mode 2. Panning was easy enough with non OS lenses back in the day and technique is far more important imo. Point taken though it would have uses for thatI was thinking more slow shutter panning motorsport![]()

Grey (Cotswold) £1509Is anyone considering the new Samyang Schneider-Kreuznach AF 14-24mm f/2.8 FE, at £1050 it’s a compelling alternative to the 16-35mm GM II? 16-35mm’s a better range for me but the Samyang’s less than half the price.
Yeah, I can’t see the Samyang 14-24mm in grey stores yet so it’ll be interesting to see what that is.Grey (Cotswold) £1509
Apparently the tamron af sucks for anything that moves above 2mphIt is lighter than the previous generation 70-200s.
