The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

It's a shame and disgrace but I'd advise anyone waiting to at least look into going private as the costs aren't always that bad considering it can save a lot of worry. When I was having heart palpitations the NHS gave me a long lead for an appointment but going private got a doctor off a golfing break. It was basically a question of when did I want to be seen.

Definitely a difference in waiting times I was seen next day.

I think I’m an exception to the norm, my GP’s really good and usually get you in pretty quick, often the same day. You have to fill an e-consult form online first and then they call you back. Recently I got in to see them the next day and then had an ECG and various other blood tests later that week. I’m then having a 24 ECG fitted next Monday. I can’t fault them, been excellent.

Ours is extremely busy, there is a 6 week waiting list for non emergency telephone appointments. There are no face to face appointments for non emergency appointments and haven't been for over a year.

It is pretty maddening they spent 10 million on a fancy new GP surgery instead of spending on more staff. I am supposed to have a check up every 6 months it's been over 18 months since the last one, Doesn't help that the G.P's are only doing a 2 day week either. It is nuts that they are allowed to spend 3 days of the week working in a private surgery a couple of miles up the road.

Average turnaround time to get a response from their online system is 10 days. I phoned last week took 6 hours and 328 attempts to get through on the phone.

Prescriptions are also a nightmare I take 18 tablets a day with 3 different drugs all on repeat prescription. To get a repeat you have to phone them and leave a message on their dedicated prescription line and it takes about 4 days for them to issue the prescription, then takes another 2-3 days to be sent to the chemist. Lots of times recently the doctor has forgot to sign the prescription causing further delays as you then have to start from scratch.

Not sure if this will happen or not but there has been a lot of chat recently that from next year they will be doing no face to face appointments and only video calls will be available. 10 million on the new surgery was well spent. Haven't been able to see my own doctor in about 3 years usually just get a locum.

I find myself thinking about this option lately, to cut weight and keep range after a return of some pretty severe back issues. Swap my Cii for a CR and the big 35-150 for something like the 20-70 and cropping. Obviously 70f4 nothing like the look of a 150/2.8 mind. I do have a 75/1.8 prime though.

Do you have any samples online of shots with the 20-70 cropped down?
I do but will share tomorrow night.
I'm at my parents so don't have access to my laptop

Definitely no where as good as 150mm f2.8 on FF. But it's a bit like using a m43 body and in good light for holiday shots its more than enough for us.

They are a nightmare here at the moment. Needed to see my G.P recently and was told the earliest they could do was just over 3 weeks and that was for emergency appointments only. In the end I paid £180 to go private instead arrived at the private surgery and surprise surprise I had paid £180 to see my own doctor. Apparently my local G.P’s are now only doing 2 days NHS so that they can do 3 days a week private. NHS is a complete shambles.
My GP isn't that bad but getting any specialist help after the GP is impossible.
6 months for a appointment to get checked by a specialist at a hospital.

Tbh I'm considering just forking out for private insurance longer term. We can't afford private treatment otherwise.

The worst part is situation is said to be getting worst instead of improving. So what chance do we have

For me it seems to be easier to get appointments for specialists but that might me down to my particular issues. They often say it will be 6-8 months for those sort of appointments but have usually had them within 3-4.

The only one I can't get really is for the pain clinic which of course is the one I probably need the most, been told the waiting list is currently at 3 years. :ROFLMAO:

I emailed them and said I’d got an upcoming shoot that I needed the camera back for (giving them the date). They said they couldn’t guarantee it but would do their best, but as I said they got it back to me within about 1 week.
I did specify i would need it back in a couple of weeks and that i am a PRO member too.

Lets see what happens.

Really? If its a repeat pescription i can get one sorted witin 48hours.....

Quite a few years ago now, I had issues eating where sometimes, with certain foods especially, the food would get stuck in my oesophagus (sp) obviously not life threatening, but also not nice as often the only option was for it eventually come back up - sorry if it's teatime when you're reading this :) I had a camera down there into my stomach and no serious issues except the ridges on the tube causing the problem. They put me on Omeprazole which worked & I eventually stopped taking it.

Anyway, the last few months it's started happening again although not as bad. So seeing as I'm getting married mid April, I went to the doctor in mid February expecting to walk out with a prescription for Omeprazole again. They decided to send me for another camera (which I appreciate just an case of any changes) the first one got cancelled, I had to wait a short while for the second which was 12th March - the doctor doing the camera said I should just be treated with medication, which is what I wanted in the first place. That was all done & on the report on my records she said 40mg Omeprazole for 8 weeks then 20mg maintenance dose. Phoned the doctor on the 17th to see what was happening next and was told they have the report & have 2 weeks to act on it - said about the getting married thing. Phone 10 days later & was told they have no copy of the report to act upon...... The receptionist was great though, she chased my records up, pulled them across to my file and called me back within 10 minutes to say she's passed it all to a doctor to review with an 'urgent' tag on it :) I then get a message Friday afternoon to book a telephone appointment with a clinical pharmacist to discuss my medication request - the next available time is the 3rd April.....

So I've gone from 2 months before the wedding to get the medication in my system and working, to 2 weeks before the wedding to even discuss it with someone.... and then however long it takes to actually get it in my hand to take! Why does it need to be discussed? I was on it before. It worked. And it's what the specialist/consultant have told them to put me on weeks ago.....

I don't want to sat at the top table on my wedding day, choking on my £90 bit of lamb :ROFLMAO:

You can buy it over the counter I was on it for donkeys years and occasionally get it even now. Found it less hassle to just buy it as I only need it occasionally. Even Home Bargains and B&M had it at one point not sure if they still do.

It was originally on repeat, but because it was so many years since the first time I was on it, I had to book an appointment to see a doctor, which lead to the above story so far.....

Yes, I just found out so that's what I've just done this evening! With the dose they have said, I think prescription will be better/cheaper but at least I can get started on them now rather than in a weeks time!

Just on the subject of health as I don't think I posted it in this thread, sorry if I did...

Me and Mrs WW went for checkups and we got the results on the NHS ap. Mrs WW needs to watch her diet as she's at risk of diabetes but she knew that anyway. Me... I'm NORMAL. I have it in writing. From a medical professional. I'm NORMAL :D

Guys.

My A7III is saving each days pictures into separate folders and I'd rather have them all in one. I've gone to "Setup 6" and then to "Folder Name" but it's already set to "Standard" and not "Date" so I'm wondering if I'm in the wrong area or missing something obvious. Can anyone help me to set this camera to chuck everything into one folder?

I took the III on a trip to Holland and I this is the most time I've spent with this camera. I have to admit that it is a better camera than the original but I do prefer the originals handling and controls. Image quality wise the III is the best, it seems to be much better at WB and the face and eye detect work when the subject is much smaller in the frame than the original could cope with.

Anyway. A7III and Sony 40mm f2.5.

Mrs WW enjoying the scene.

We had a great time but I nearly missed it. I was having a shower when the world spun and I fell out and smacked my head. The first aider wanted to whisk me off to hospital for stitches, stitches? when my head was still on? Phhh. He said he'd done the same himself so I've learned a lesson, don't be in the shower when the ship is pitching about and they've told us not to do things like stand near staircases. I get no sympathy from Mrs WW. She photographed my dented head and has sent pictures to everyone we know.

Oh, I see the dreaded banding is visible in some of these. It's not there in the originals.

Does this help?

Thanks but that didn't work as when I select the Rec folder I get an orange box which says 104MSDCF and if I navigate up or down the number changes. There doesn't seem to be anything which looks like an option to get the camera to save pictures from multiple days into the same folder.

With my A7 everything just went into one folder until the camera thought it was full and then it created a second. With the III even if I only take a few pictures in a day it'll still create a second folder the next day, and the next. The reason I'd like as few folders as possible is that it only seems to add time to the download process.

I noticed that this changed on mine ages ago and I remember posting about it. When I used to delete, years ago, it would delete a single image or all images on the SD card. Suddenly it went to deleting single or by day and I couldn't work out why.

Very odd, have either of you contacted Sony to ask why?

Having just looked into this it shouldn't be putting files into 'day' folders when set to standard, I wonder if it's a glitch and if Sony are aware  Have you tried setting it to date taking a few pics and then gone back to standard? I would try that and then format the card when gone back to standard as this would hopefully create a new folder that is in standard form. If not create a new folder yourself and then select this folder to record images to.

Good ideas Toby. Thank you. When I've finished processing my pictures I'll have a go.

I can see how many would like this feature but I'd rather just have everything in just the one folder. It is odd that the camera does this when set to "Standard" and I did wonder if I was in the wrong section of the menu.

Yeah I saw that, eyeing it up for my Cii, though I'm also considering treating myself to a more special lens for it, perhaps the Nokton 40/1.2 or the 40/2.5 G.

OTOH I'm going to have more frequent work travel coming up so tempting to try acquire a cheap A5100 to mount something tiny on (viltrox 28, my samyang 35 or maybe the TTartisan 25) and take when I wouldn't otherwise bother. A5000 is cheaper still, but much less sophisticated AF, no touch screen, won't work with the viltrox etc... otoh cheap is good for everyday carry

Stuck at home with spinal issues at the moment has me browsing photo kit for something to take my mind of it, and get me out and about (gently).

Although I've drifted more towards 35/40mm now I do still like my 50's and I have MF covered with the TTA 50mm f2 and Voigtlander f1.2 and f2 (they're all slightly different and fill a little niche) not to mention film era 50's. AF wise I should be happy with the Sony 55mm f1.8 and I know it's me but I just have a problem getting over the fact that it's 55 and not 50mm.

I've just tried the following to fix the saved images in folders issue...

- Changing to date and back to standard had no effect.
- Resetting the camera had no effect.

So I'm a bit stuck. It could be that it's always done this and I've never noticed as I usually transfer the days pictures to my pc on the day they're taken but this time with being away I had several days pictures which appeared in several folders. It's annoying but then some others may think it's a great auto feature. I don't but it looks like I'm stuck with it.

Looks a good alternative to the SOny 50mm f1.8.

They should have made it an f/1.8.

I have the Siggy 35mm f/2 and I enjoy using it, but even though its only a very marginal difference I would use it more if it was an f/1.8.

Been saying it for a long time but Sony really need to release an updated 50 f/1.8.

All of my Sonys only create a new folder when it hits 4k images even when I had A7III's so something is a miss here unless they have changed something on newer firmware.

I can't see why it would be right when there's the option to choose standard or date, if it was only ever meant to do this there wouldn't be the option of "standard"

I'd contact Sony, they're usually good at getting back to me with enquiries.

I initially thought that, and do a bit but I've never really tested how much difference there is between f1.8-f2

It is barely noticeable and most people probably couldn't tell the difference but I can and find it annoying. It could also just be a mental block of my own to be fair.

It is a pity as well because the siggy 35 f/2 is a joy to use, but if I need a lens for indoors I will reach for something else.
