The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I thought I'd try and catch the sunset and see if the Sony 40mm f2.5 is susceptible to flare. The sunset was a bit of a damp squib and the 40mm f2.5 only really flares if the light source is in a corner.

This has got me wondering if it’s the Pergear cards. If the camera can lock up whilst writing could the card cause errors that make the camera think it’s writing or something similar

I actually haven’t had it happen with the peargear cards prob because they are so fast.

Have had it happen with Sony tough cards and Sandisk. At a wedding last year I though for sure one of my A9’s had bit the dust as just wouldn’t turn on. About 15 minutes later it magically came back to life.

As I said, it definitely wasn’t writing as it was several minutes before the last shot and then removing the battery, and I wasn’t using burst shooting. I just wondered if the pergear had caused some miscommunication so the camera thought it was still writing. I’ll put my SD cards in and see if it happens again. I’ll also check the overheating setting as mentioned earlier (y)

Some clouds have a bit of character in them and often lift a photo, it's the bland grey lifeless ones to avoid. The ones in your top photo are nice.

I agree, the grey / white out days do depress me. More power to James Popsys but I'm not him :D

I have processed these in CS2024 and they're not exactly what I saw by eye as I applied quite a big downward curve to the sky to bring out the detail a bit more. Whilst we were there the real world view was a bit more bland.

Anything is possible. Have you got another make of card to try and see if it still does it.

Not CFexpress but will be using SD for a while to see if it still occurs.

A couple more from my evening wander around Staithes with my A7 and Sony 40mm f2.5.

The walk down the bank.

Wash day. There was just enough room to limbo underneath the socks.

Oh, and in Whitby yesterday I saw someone else with an A7. It's the first time I've seen anyone else with one. He had a zoom of some sort on it but I couldn't see what it was, it wasn't overly long or fat so my guess is it was some sort of standardish range zoom but not the kit lens as I have one so I know what it looks like. Maybe something 3rd party.

Thanks Toby :) Just a film look with some curves & HSL for the green & blues ;)
Yeah, I've tried over and over again to get a film look I'm happy with. Yours are on the money (y)

I'm pretty sure it's a curve for the slightly faded look, HSL tweaks mainly for the blues lighter more aqua and the greens warmer more yellow, added grain on those, and I think I slightly drop the blue calibration slider. Daylight WB as standard. No colour grading/split toning.

Thanks for the earlier feedback from this query...
Not sure whether this is the right place to ask...

I've taken the decision to move from my Sony A77ii (which has been great, but is now getting a bit creaky!) and I have a Sony A9ii on the way. Does anyone use the Sony Vario-Tessar T* SEL1670Z 16-70mm f/4 ZA OSS E on an A9ii? I notice that it is E-mount, rather than FE - does this matter too much? It will be my secondary lens (general stuff and landscapes) as I have the Sony 70-200 FE lens for sports (my main interest)
If it isn't suitable - what would you recommend in that sort of range?

Thanks
I now have the Sony FE 20-70 f4 along with a Tamron 150-500 f5/6.7 to go with my Sony 70-200... I haven't tried the 20-70 yet, but I'm liking the other 2 lenses for my motorsport.
(I took my pension early and I've almost spent it!! :D)

Hmmm.

Looking at the bokeh and corners and what seems to be something strange going on in the middle v the edges I'd guess at either a characterful old film era or possibly a new Chinese lens but I think an old one... somewhere between 24 and.... something less than 50mm and not too wide an aperture? A 35mm f2.8? Although it could be wider? 28mm?

My last buy was supposed to arrive on Friday but instead they tried to deliver it today when I was out. I've requested they try again on Friday.

Someone give the Film Era Lens Master a gold star :p :ROFLMAO:

For some reason, the Yashica ML35mm f/2.8 fetches pretty strong money & is much less popular than the more expensive/desirable/rarer?? Contax Carl Zeiss 'version' in C/Y mount. You get the odd one from Japan occasionally but I'm a bit weary of buying there..... This one was from a UK dealer. Certainly not a cheap lens, but reasonable & seeing as I've been looking for one for a few years on and off..... I snatched it up and decided to just forget about the pound coins :)

I already have a ML28/2.8 & ML50/1.9 which I've had for years (and a ML135/2.8) but I never feel fully comfortable at just one of those focal lengths so a 35mm it was.

While I'm here.

Minolta Rokkor 28mm f2.8 MC III and then 50mm f1.7 MC III.

A bit of flare.

DSC06457.JPG

Less flare here from the 50mm but it's still there... Future Middlesbrough FC player?

I posted the one before this next 50mm one on the day. This one is just a few seconds apart and slightly different framing.

Lee.

Why do you have to mention lenses I've never had?

How will I sleep tonight now?

But No. I must not. I've sold two nice Rokkors and two nice FD's and I've promised myself that a lot more will go to a dealer but it's been a busy week and I haven't got round to it yet. I am going to try to keep my little collection to one biscuit tin for the old film era lenses and one for modern manual lenses and that'll be it. I want a manageable and useable little collection and must try not to let it all get out of hand :D

By the way. There does seem to be something going on in the centre v the corners, a lack of contrast, in your picture but it could just be local lighting causing it. Do you see it?

Shooting into the sun. Looks like it's just a built-in pro mist feature :ROFLMAO: I literally just chucked it on the A7 to quickly check sharpness, focal distance and the aperture stops :)

It looks an interesting lens. The first thing I thought was that it wasn't a lens I'd used before. It'll certainly be interesting seeing how it performs in different situations.

I've shot on digital with the ML28 and ML50 lots of times. That what I started doing back in my 5D2 days which led me into the Sony system with the A7 about 10 years ago. Never really disappointed with the look our sharpness tbh.

I've not shot my Yashica lenses on a Sony for ages now though.

Anyone using or tried the Tamron 50-300 or 50-400? Both look appealing for what I want. The 400 seems to get some pretty decent reviews for such a long zoom.

That's surprised me, I thought it was something with a longer focal length than 35mm  :$

The 20-70mm is superb. Which 70-200mm do you have? (My memory's terrible ;))

A very rare people picture from me. A7 and Sony 40mm f2.5 at f2.5.

Oh, did you all see that Viltrox is bringing out a 40mm f2.5?

I mentioned that a while back, very late getting released this lens. The Nikon version has been available since Jesus was a wee lad.

Hopefully they start getting them out now, the 135mm is next after that followed by the new pro and lab series lenses.

The rumour is that the e mount version will be shown on the 6th so there's not long to wait for this to either happen or not but of course being shown off doesn't mean it'll be in the shops the day after.

I'm happy with my Sony equivalent and a part of the appeal is I suppose the more manual and tactile experience if you use the aperture ring so this Viltrox doesn't interest me.

At the moment I am gonna say I don't want one as we now have 3 x 35mm's, 1 x 45mm and 2 x 50mm's but it will probably be as dirt cheap as the 20mm. So won't say never :ROFLMAO:
