The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

That is the bluetooth gone on one of my A1s. Still under warranty so that is good but this happened a good few weeks after updating firmware. The message came on screen at an event and I switched to FTP which worked so it must be a gremlin on the bluetooth side. Deleted Creator app and the other A1 and A9iii connected instantly and paired as you would expect. No dice for the newest A1 and that is after deleting the paired info etc. I may as well update the firmware and see if that sorts it

I've still not updated mine to 2.01 let alone 2.02 so I can't check the bluetooth on mine as you can't use the creative app on the old firmware and I don't have a BT remote.

Clearly the firmware alone isn't the only issue as this camera has connected fine a good number of times without issue. I wonder if they have some form of check now that when failed stops the bluetooth working. Wifi seems to be working fine

On the subject of cars...... Only an around the block road test but the Escort appears to have brakes now!! Bias box master cylinder reverse fitted to the bulkhead on a homemade adapter plate & modified pedal rod connection.... :ROFLMAO:

I went back yesterday evening with my two new mk3 MC Rokkors and I was going to take similar pictures to compare flare and all the rest to the Vivitar but it was difficult to park and the light was dead so in the end I didn't bother and just went shopping instead where I met someone I hadn't seen for 14 years.

Dead light is just so frustrating. I had what felt like a permanent spell of that not long ago. Really got to me so hence my last sunrise/landscape type photo was quite a while ago. Plus a 3am alarm just isn't nice at the moment. In fact, I've not really shot anything for a while now which isn't like me. I'm still finishing those Vintage photos which was the very beginning of June.

I watch a James Popsys vid in which he said he likes flat light as it can make his subject stand out and I can see his point and I'm sure it can work for some subjects with scenes but I think more often than not that's not true for me plus I think he does a lot more processing than me.
 
I took my Minolta Rokkor 28mm f2.8 and 50mm f1.7 MC MK3's to Saltburn to take some similar pictures as I took with my Vivitar 28mm f2 just to see how they compare. I think the Minolta 28mm is the better lens and I suppose there's no surprise there. It's just an overall better lens and a bit more resistant to flare.

I'd ignored these MC MK3's in the past but I do like them. There is I think a little less contrast than the MD's generally have and I think also more susceptibility to flare, so they show more character I suppose. They are well made and seem to be sharp enough.

Yeah I think that's exactly what the firmware added. A lot of people weren't aware their bluetooth wasn't working as thye'd never used it, but the new firmware informed them and many assumed the firmware had broken it.

Thanks, 35mm f1.4 GM. I can’t praise this lens highly enough, possibly my favourite lens.

I've not heard of anyone else having the issue so long after the firmware was updated and after the bluetooth worked really well for weeks. Perhaps we will start to see camera after camera starting to have failing bluetooth chips. I wonder if they could programme round it. Perhaps the reason they have given the hard shutdown when failure occurs is it can lead to other issues and at least this way you have a working camera albeit with the ability to use bluetooth

No I've not heard of anyone having issues that far along. I'm not sure what you mean by hard shutdown?
 
On TV they're going to be talking about the "Summer heatwave and how long will it last?"

Well, here it lasted one day. It was sunny yesterday and I was going to walk today and take my camera but the light is just dead with total grey/white out of the sky and the prospect of rain or even a thunder storm.

Kind of been sunny, but with intermittent cloud. Yesterday and today overcast but very warm and muggy, tomorrow’s looking more sunny on the forecast.

Blue sky and patchy cloud here right now. Which is typical for a work day..... only today isn't a work day as we're currently on the train to Cardiff :)
 
Hot and sunny hear, a few clouds, but mainly blue sky.
Just about to go and check the pavement temp to see if it's OK to take the dog on his lunchtime walk, as it's a few minutes walk to get to the woods.
 
I took my camera anyway. You can maybe get an idea of the conditions from these...

I don't suppose anyone in this thread will be interested... I've advertised some film era lenses for sale in the "Other" section.

I've been through my little collection and picked the ones I want to keep and the rest will go if not on here then to a dealer. I know I'll regret it but I want to be a user rather than a collector and since I got married I really haven't had the time I used to have to wander around with these lenses and use them in rotation like I used to. So, they will all go one way or another.

I've never bothered applying. Strictly speaking photography should be your main income and it isn't for me. The track and trace says "Your product is ready". That seems crazy given they never even had it on their system until 3pm albeit it arrived at noon. I'll believe that when I see it but at least I know it is with them. Only got one job this week and it can be done with a single camera so no immediate rush.

Really interested in this lens. Had the 200-600 but with some travels it was too bulky so swapped to the Tamron 150-500 which has been a disappointment. Considered the 100-400 but 400mm is just a little short. This seems perhaps the Goldilocks? Although wish Sony allowed 3rd party TC support.

I've never had a good long lens. In my DSLR days I had a Sigma 28-300mm and although it wasn't an outstanding lens it was a good day out and holiday lens and I still look at pictures I took with it. It wasn't really very good by todays standards though or even by the standards of the day.

I do have a Panasonic 100-400mm for MFT but that format does have some limitations when you're pushing things.
 
Sony's repair service track and trace is useless. "The product is ready" means a technician has just received it. The lovely Welsh lady on the phone was excellent and explained that they didn't know why it did that. I like that kind of honesty and she said between 1 and 2 weeks which is a week longer than they originally said but likely more accurate. It never fails to amaze me how crap tech seems to be in tech companies
