...

Also I'm getting a big bill as my 2001 MX5 failed its MoT and is apparently not safe to drive as its suspension arms and everything that goes with them have been eaten by time and corrosion and disintegrated. I can't say I'm surprised looking at its age and Japanese cars of this age have (so I'm told) a reputation for melting away and it's not so long since the rear heat shield disintegrated so I was expecting more of this. I think this will be the biggest bill I've ever had for it.

My Ford Galaxy has just passed it's MOT, but the annual service that accompanied it had reached cam belt change time, and that in turn showed it was time to get a new water pump - probably not as expensive a bill as you're facing, but still more than I wanted to have to find to start the New Year (my Wife and eldest daughters have December birthdays, add in Christmas, and it's an expensive month!).

I keep waiting for that elusive month when I don't have a bunch of 'unexpected' extra expenses, but it's been a while...

I've been asked by my wife's cousin to take photos of him and his groomsmen getting ready and having a few beers etc on his wedding day. It's informal so they're not expecting professional pictures but me being me I'd like them to be as good as possible so if anyone's willing to share any tops I'd be extremely grateful.

It's just at his house so I'm expecting interior light to be poor. I don't have any lights, just a flash I thought I'd use for bouncing off the ceiling. I do have a wireless flash trigger so could use this off camera if it's better, but I'd still have to bounce it to diffuse it.

I'm assuming for inside pics 85mm will be too long so I'd be better with the 35mm and 50mm?

I'd probably use the 20-70 with bounce flash or the 35/50 with ambient. Is the house small or a bit larger? Low or high ceilings?

Thanks, all stuff I don’t know unfortunately. A lot of it I’ll have to wing on the day but if I’ve got some base knowledge to work with that’d be good.

Do you think the 20-70mm will be fast enough?

f4 max aperture? It should be enough to let you mix ambient and flash. How bad is the grain at ISO6400 anyway? ;)

I'd take it because it should be able to cope with all the situations in terms of field of view. At 20mm there will probably be some fall-off with flash, even when bounced off the ceiling, and I'd work to mixing ambient too, because ceiling-bounced flash isn't beautiful either, and does destroy atmosphere to a degree. But as you point out, these aren't pro pix, so just see how it goes.

I think the parts for my MX5 are over £1,100. I think the garage expected me to scrap it but once this MX5 goes I'll probably never have another so I'll pay up and get it made healthy again.

There's always something... Reminds me of Monty Python and the Spanish Inquisition... "No one expects to have to buy a new water pump!" Or in my case "No one expects the suspension and everything connected to it to turn into burnt toast and fall off the car!"

Used to own the V2 Sling 6L variant. Pretty good bag, just didn't fit my equipment hence why I sold it. I would definitely get another one... I kind of regret selling it to be honest with you :( Also, it's not completely waterproof which I had a gripe with, they are somewhat water-resistant. I would not be standing outside in the pouring rain with it as it will eventually soak in.

EDIT: Currently looking for another 6L as it is perfect for daily bag for carrying stuff around.

I just got it….i am trying to fit the following…

Fuji XS10 with Smallrig base
Attached with 23/1.4
35/1.5
2 spare Fuji batteries
SD card
10,000 mha battery bank (SHARGE Icemag)
USB cable.
Fuji Instax printer.
iPad Air with Magic Keyboard
Passport in Passport wallet with cash and 5 cards.
Keys

Bonus

Nintendo Switch or Steam Deck.

The good news is that the iPad fits, it’s tight but it fits.

The bad news is that due to the taper nature of the bag, the bottom is narrower than the top, meaning putting the camera sideways doesn’t really work. Especially if the XS10 has the Smallrig base attached. The form factor forces the lens facing down. Not the easiest position to get the camera back out in this layout because I have to sit it in the center with the 2 flaps flanking it facing in, tightly. I have to remove the smallrig base too.

This leaves just enough space either side, one side for the 34/1.4 and one side for the battery bank.

In the end, everything fits. But unlike my Ryker, where I had the same setup, minus the iPad. I was able to fit a 500ml bottle of water too inside, and even a 56/1.2 as well.

There is 100% no space for the Switch or Steam Deck though. I’m in 50/50 minds as to keep it or upgrade to the 10L.

Btw, I can’t believe it’s 6L…it feels so small, if I didn’t get the iPad in there I would’ve of thought it’s the 3L they sent in error.

Hmmmm if only it is 8L lol. 10L might be too big, it looks massive on video.

You won’t need any artificial light, haven’t used flash or anything else for getting ready since Jesus was a wee lad. Window light should be more than fine. Open them up and put the window to your back.

And yeah leave the 85 at home and shoot wide open with the 35. You probably won’t use the 50 much either as even it will be a bit tight depending on the size of the room.

Try to bear in the mind the story of the morning rather than worrying about boring getting ready portraits.

Your lucky you don’t own a McLaren my wee bro just got a bill for £2600 to replace an airbag sensor plus the cost of shipping the car to Scotland to have the work done as nobody in N.I will touch it.

I've bought something.

You'll see pictures taken with it after it arrives :D They'll be no different from any other picture I've posted but I wanted it :D

It'll be worth it Alan! :) Just don't count the pennies!!

I've just bought a 4 pot caliper complete front brake upgrade for the Escort..... Hoping it'll sort the brakes out as I've just not been happy with them. Also hoping the water pump very slight leak has fixed itself too :ROFLMAO: Last time I drove it there was a slight misting, so I headed back to the lock up checked it & it was dry. Drove it locally, took it home to clean, back to the lock up & it was still dry..... :tumbleweed: Also had a £230 bill for front arms on the Focus, they were well overdue though!! And the missus passed her test just before Xmas & has an older Honda Jazz auto. So I've the Focus to look after, the Escort, Jazz, my daughters Fiesta & my boy has his test next month :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

It never used to be many years ago but luckily now mine is pretty well spread out. Focus insurance January, MOT July, tax monthly. Escort insurance Sept & MOT Oct.

My car insurance is November, MOT and service in early March. Tax now spread out monthly.

At least there is a 4 months gap to save up for the car….

If you buy an expensive car maintenance likely remains expensive even when the value of the car has plummeted. My MX5 was never an expensive car and parts are getting hard to find now, according to my garage. These bits are coming from Belgium. At least just about everything is available and quite cheap for MG's. I should have kept one of mine :D

Last year and into this has taught me that I need to enjoy life and not count the pennies. Me and Mrs luckily have more money than we'll ever spend and sadly no children. We were both brought up to count the pennies and getting out of that upbringing is hard.

The controlled bits I do are getting the groom to pretend he’s doing his tie, buttons and cufflinks next to a window. Takes 3 minutes and it’s more controllable if he’s not doing it as you’re trying to photo it. It quite rare I get the groom prep and sometimes do 5 mins at the venue.

And I’ll emphasise what’s been said, keep the window behind them or if it’s nice weather get them outside.

Yeah, it fills up quick! I found that I had to put my A6400 with a Tamron 17-70mm lens facing down and my Sigma 35mm prime on the side and it would still just about fit. I'd have another just for day to day things like a water bottle, wallet, phone, keys etc. if I was to be out for a day or so.

10L would be too big in my opinion, hence why I opted for the 6L variant. I think 8L would have been the sweet spot!

6L would be okay as a daily but I want to use this as the bag to go through airports with an iPad inside it and it fits under the seat.

The 6L will fit the camera, passport fine but when I put in the iPad it stiffens up the back making zipping up difficult. Actually impossible with the XS10 with a lens mounted.

If I am not taking the iPad then I would just stick with the Ryker really.

Just got the 10L too actually. Dropped off the 6L at the post office.

Now everything fits, Hurray!…but a couple of disappointments.

1 - the 6L has 2 internal pockets, one either side for small things like camera battery. The 10L don’t have this?

2 - with the extra volume, there are no more extra pockets, actually less with the removal of the 2 internal side pockets.

3 - it could have added a pocket on the body hugging side on the outside of the bag, the perfect place for passport. This lacks that.

Still, it fits what I need, actually can fit the Steam Deck too, or 500m of water. I can even fit the XS10 with the smallrig base and the PD base clip attached.

The perfect size with be a 7L lol. Just an inch thicker would do it.

Edit - and this is only with XS10 attached with the 23/1.4 with a 35/1.4 loose. It definitely wouldn’t work with my Sony so I think 10L is definitely the better size for me.

If it’s a daily without the need for the iPad, the 6L would be fine, especially if I get the X100 and not using a system. But right now I need the extra space.

Unfortunately the 20-70mm will be going back, tested again today and the decentering is unnacceptable, strangely it's worse slightly in from the corner than the extreme corner. I don't know how well this will show on here but this is an example. The corner that is about 95% as god as others is then unnaceptable slightly in from the edge, this is on every shot as does not fully rectify when stopped down to f8.

Yeah sorry I meant that. Also don’t be afraid to get in close, the resulting photos will be much better.

If you do groom final touches get him looking out of the window at an angle but standing close to it and then shoot along the wall.

In other news, I found a PD Slide in Red yesterday looked on eBay and last one went for £80! And one went in America for $250. Does anyone know if they are particularly sought after?

The summit edition one?

Wouldn’t say they are particularly sought after. You can’t get them new any more I guess if someone specifically wanted that colour they might be prepared to pay a bit more.

When new the red one was less popular.

Yeah that’s the one, one sold on eBay for £80. Quickly dug it out the draw and listed it on eBay, I’ll just reduce it until it sells

I don't think I posted this one? 4/5 shot panorama with the Tamron 70-180mm - perfectly capable of being shot at 35mm single image :ROFLMAO:

Actually, that SS Great Britain is tighter than I thought! Maybe 50mm framing......

Here's an old 40mm for comparison

The smaller bags are really for smaller systems I think or if you are using small bodies with really small prime lenses.
The 10l isn't all that big or heavy. It's perfect day bag IMO. You can use a capture clip to with it and it won't snag unlike the smaller bags which get uncomfortable

I got them from Amazon. When I couldn’t get what I needed to fit, I immediately put in a return request. Dropped it off in the post office next morning and already got a refund.

The same time I requested the refund at 9pm, I ordered the 10L, both in Ash, and it was delivered by midday. The whole process was far too efficient for this country lol

I think the 6L would be fine if it was a X100, or only have the 23/2.0 WR but XS10 with the faux mirror box and the top with a plate at the bottom on a 23/1.4 makes it too tall to fit sideways either direction. I’m sure I can fit if I detach the lens and everything but I hate that. I set it up so I can take it out and shoot immediately. Even when I’m travelling. It also need to sit in a position with the hand grip facing up for this kind of bags. I just could not do it with the 6L with the camera I want to use it with.

In real life the 10L isn’t that big. There are a couple of things they should do with v3.

1. More internal pockets, like the sides, perhaps another inside the iPad/laptop area, just for organisation rather than putting in more things. Like I want to keep photocopies of travel insurance, passport, things for emergency. It’s thin, don’t take up much space. There is no place to put them inside except with the iPad. But if I put it alongside the iPad. It comes out with the iPad when I pull it out due to friction.
2. More external pockets, on the body side.
3. Provide more dividers, doesn’t need to be the origami ones. Just a plain flat one with Velcro would be good.
4. Include a rain cover to make it 100% water proof to satisfy some people :p

I don't think anyone here will be interested but my X100f will be off to a dealer if it doesn't sell here today ditto my Voigtlander 40mm f1.2 e mount. I don't know what to do with the Syoptic 50mm f1.1 e mount but I'll make my mind up and if it doesn't sell today it too may be off to a dealer.

I've also listed most of my MF Nikon lenses, AIS, Series E and also a couple of gorgeous Kippon Kogaku lenses. Again, if there's no interest these will be off to a dealer next week.

Not that this will be of huge interest to anyone I suspect, but I took advantage of the new year sales to pick up a used FE 70-200 F4 at Park Cameras in excellent condition with all the goodies for just £504. I've had my eye on one for a while, but never have been able to justify spending six or seven hundred pounds on a decent second hand example, let alone over a grand on a new one.

Took it out for a spin on the A7III yesterday and I am very happy

As a complement to my FE 24-105 F4, I think it will work very well.

for me the only improvement I'd like is a slightly wider strap :D
