Also I'm getting a big bill as my 2001 MX5 failed its MoT and is apparently not safe to drive as its suspension arms and everything that goes with them have been eaten by time and corrosion and disintegrated. I can't say I'm surprised looking at its age and Japanese cars of this age have (so I'm told) a reputation for melting away and it's not so long since the rear heat shield disintegrated so I was expecting more of this. I think this will be the biggest bill I've ever had for it.
My Ford Galaxy has just passed it's MOT, but the annual service that accompanied it had reached cam belt change time, and that in turn showed it was time to get a new water pump - probably not as expensive a bill as you're facing, but still more than I wanted to have to find to start the New Year (my Wife and eldest daughters have December birthdays, add in Christmas, and it's an expensive month!).
I keep waiting for that elusive month when I don't have a bunch of 'unexpected' extra expenses, but it's been a while...
Also had a £230 bill for front arms on the Focus, they were well overdue though!! And the missus passed her test just before Xmas & has an older Honda Jazz auto. So I've the Focus to look after, the Escort, Jazz, my daughters Fiesta & my boy has his test next month
