Stunning detail with such a wide aperture too. Did you crop the first one significantly?A few "macro" shots with the 50mm

Magic mate.
Thanks guys, the first two are over 1:1 crops and run through gigapixel to increase the resolution to something usable, the last is almost a 1:1 crop, this is why DOF is relatively big as you can't get 'that' close with the 50mm.. The insects were max 10mm and obviously the magnification of the 50mm f1.2 isn't the greatest. Good fun though, made me fancy a macro lens againStunning detail with such a wide aperture too. I’ve got a raynox somewhere, but I think it’ll only work with the 24-70mm as all my other lenses have too big a filter size, I ought to dig it out.So
Some close up filters might be fun and they're cheap![]()
I like the look of the Laowa lenses with the 2x magnification, although I bet the DOF is a pain to work with90G next then......![]()

I doubt I’ll get one, one of those things that gets used for a while then get fed up withI'm not really a 'macro' guy but sometimes close ups, yeah. The Tamron 70-180mm so far has got me pretty close for what I want/need so..... A dedicated macro is just something I don't really need. I do think it opens up a lot of opportunity though for shooting!

Compared to my A6000, which has the old semi-tilting screen, I much prefer the one on the A7iv in terms of flexibility.....
I do find the screen on the A7IV annoying but everyone will be different. A9II is probably your best bet tbh will save loads of time in post as well as all of the bodies handle W.B differently. Just my opinion but for me the A7IV a.f isn't as reliable as the A9 or A9II either.

I had a disaster today... I attempted to make some bread but the dough didn't rise at all so I tried a different pot of yeast and got the same result so I binned the lot and then cheered myself up by deciding to walk to the shops to buy some ready made bread.

My standard is to set it facing inwards, and just use the EVF, then I fold it out for the times I want to use it, which is either just flat for making a bunch of settings changes, or out and twisted to a particular angle for a high or low shot - when the increased range of motion is an advantage.

My agency just bought new kit for their top photographers. They went with R3s despite being Nikon previously. The Z9 was too slow for transfers. I really like the ability to crop on teh A1 but if I am honest the file sizes are too big for me. Fine if you are shooting portraits or landscapes but when you are shooting 5k images a week or more it gets old pretty quickly. The market the A9iii is going for has competition now. It was an easy market for Sony last time at least in terms of mirrorless options. Not so much this time. My guess is they won't make an A9iii and will instead make a 61mp A1 ii with an option to shoot at 26mp full frame like the A7RV but at a much higher frame rate. That would be the perfect camera for me particularly with the noise reduction programmes available when you want to shoot that special high resolution image in low light. Add the better subject recognition that the A7RV has and then offer the small or full sized shell and I'd be selling my A1 and two A9iis in favour of two new A1iisThey could be at least get a bit more creative when they're fabricating A9 rumours, at least some of their previous utter nonsense made up A9III rumours were more entertaining. Although kind of odd there's still A9III rumours given according to that site the A9III was definitely released by now at least three times.
I do wonder where it all ends, I know it’s been said before that “we don’t need anything else” and then new tech comes out and we realise that actually things can be improved. However, I really struggle to see what else we need. Sure megapixels will likely continue to rise, and frame rates will continue to rise but for what?My agency just bought new kit for their top photographers. I think you're right and I can't really see a place now in the market for a new version of the A9 but it's what irritates me about these rumour sites is that while I know they make up just about everything they post, it still creates just that little doubt in my mind that I should wait a bit longer. The 25MP of the A9 series is a big plus for me as its high speed burns through memory and storage extremely quickly so the higher resolution A1 or Nikon Z8 are going to be worse, the option to save smaller raw files would be great. My agency just bought new kit for their top photographers. Dynamic range used to be around the 12.5 ev, then made a rapid increase to it's current levels - Sony has MF sensors that get up to 15.5 ev I think, and I wouldn't be surprised if they are working on pushing it further, and also maintaining it as ISO increases - it's one of those things that you don't really realise you need more of until you switch to a camera with a step up as I have done (A900 - A7iv) and realise what that extra gives you as soon as things get a bit challenging.... Dynamic range has been stuck at the 14.5-15 ev range for a while so can’t see that improving much.
....
You can shoot at 21mp and 12mp on the A1 if you want to have smaller files, and then shoot at 50mp for the times you want to cropI think you're right and I can't really see a place now in the market for a new version of the A9 but it's what irritates me about these rumour sites is that while I know they make up just about everything they post, it still creates just that little doubt in my mind that I should wait a bit longer. Just done a quick test of large vs medium file sizes, I can't see a difference when viewed at full image, obviously 1:1 there's a marked difference. How they'd fair when pushed in post I don't know. You can shoot at 21mp and 12mp on the A1 if you want to have smaller files, and then shoot at 50mp for the times you want to crop![]()

I don't know about Nikon, out of the loop these days. That sounds a really handy feature although not one Nikon seem to support from what I can see.
They seem more focused on high efficiency higher compressed raw files instead but may be reading things wrong, it's all a lot more complicated than it used to beI don't know about Nikon, out of the loop these days.
You can get compressed RAW on Sony too. They seem more focused on high efficiency higher compressed raw files instead but may be reading things wrong, it's all a lot more complicated than it used to be![]()
I only use Lossless compressed now, I’ve not seen any advantage of using uncompressed in the real world. You can get compressed RAW on Sony too.
In fact I'd argue Sony's compressed RAW is best of the bunch.
there isn't really.I only use Lossless compressed now, I’ve not seen any advantage of using uncompressed in the real world.
