The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Historically Sony updates haven't been great just incremental updates and bug fixes. That being said, I'm not sure what they can improve on the A1 anyway except the LCD screen and that's obviously not a firmware thing.

focus stacking
pre-release buffer like they added on Z9
long exposure live view composite
better eyeAF for animals+birds
in-body focus limiter

I can go on :p

I would like Sony to address firmware for lower end cameras like A6xxx series and not focus on the more expensive ones !

Those would all be on my list as would multiple exposures. The camera must be doing quite a bit of the work these facilities would need already. Pro Capture would surely be easy enough to implement as would some high frame rate low res option like the Z9. Those two would be top of my list

I stand corrected (y)

Oh dear. Sorry about that :(

Still, as one door closes many more are opened and you can get that 35mm f1.4 GM with a clear conscience now as you've tried the Sammy and decided to move on :D
Yep

I was going to pull the trigger on the Sony f1.8 as Amazon had it at £480 earlier today but it’s gone back up to £528 so I won’t bother, crazy how the price can change throughout the day.

You could always think about buying used, I often do. You don't have to "risk" a private sale, you could always check the usual used sellers.

After not using my f1.8 much as I prefer compact kit I'm now trying to get used to using it and I suppose it is compact compared to the f1.4.

As I mentioned previously like new used are £524 so I'd save myself a whopping £4 ;)

I've just googled it and he first result is Wex at £344 but I don't know if that's a good price or not.

Grade 8 - won't pass the @snerkler labcoat test!

Lens shows signs of use, including light wear to the lens mount and wear to the barrel and grips. There is dust throughout the optics with a small chip to edge of the front optics, this will not affect the images in any way.

It does seem that the near mint ones are nearly the same as new prices

For anyone interested... The rumor site and a the new Nik Collection 5...

Oh, I'd take it if it wasn't for the chip. I didn't see any of that, just spotted it was the first one listed by google.

A grey seller did come up at £469 but for the extra £60 or so I'd just buy a new, £529 from Cotswold Cameras.

Aren't Cotswolds grey, or am I getting them confused with someone else?

Yup that's what I was thinking.

I did expect to see some AF improvements or additions in this update.

Thinking of a trip to Thruxton in 10 days for the historic race meeting with my A9. The only challenge is that my lens collection amounts to a 16-35 f4, 85 f1.8 and 135 batis.

My plan is to look at a longer lens - probably either the 100-400gm or the 200-600g.

Can someone who has shot there before suggest which would be better?
I sold my 100-400 to keep the 200-600 and one of the areas I miss it as at motorsport events. It is only the size of a 70-200 and most shots were within its range. The 200-600 is much more of a pain to carry all day. Both are excellent lenses though and much depends on what else you will use it for. I kept the 200-600 for a relatively light weight nature lens when I can't be bothered with the 400m GM. The new 70-200 with converters is now my 100-400

Not going to be using the Sony cameras for a while, as want to get my head round my OMD-5 III.
You pulled the trigger on one then (y) What lens(es) do you have or plan on getting?

Well Amazon have lowered the price of the 35mm back down to £480 so I’ve taken a punt.

WoW.

Well spotted.

I'll be interested to know what you think of it. Here's hoping it isn't decentred :D

So I have the OMD 5 III plus the M12-40mm f2.8 and waiting for my Free M45mm plus tonight I put in an order for the M25mm f1.8.

I have one of those in silver. I can't remember the last time I used it but I do remember that like a lot of these lenses it's just about perfect.

Here's hoping you enjoy the new kit :D

You've spent more than I was going to on that used G100 :D

Never used the 25mm but the 12-40mm is a great lens, and the 45mm punches above its price tag (y)

Oh yes. Somehow I missed the 45mm there, I have a silver one and it really is a good lens. The bokeh on all those lenses is IMO good. They're such nice lenses,

I have the Oly 17, 25 and 45mm f1.8's and the Panny 14mm f2.5 and 20mm f1.7, and some zooms.

Once I get my head round this new system I might have a Sony clear out with lenses, but will 100% keep the A7 III.
Haven't you only just bought most of them

I already know the camera that will go, but as no original box it will go with a bundle, as I still have the Sammy boxes.
Do you think the Olly will replace the Sony in the long run? Is there something you don't like with Sony or just fancy trying something else?

As most know I say I totally love the camera or lens I own, but for Sony I really do love the A7 III as it is a joy to use hence why I will keep it. I doubt I will ever leave Sony as FF was an itch that needed scratching and I'm grateful I moved from Fuji to Sony.

I take it you change a lot then lol.
