The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I was hoping to go out this morning but it was grey and pouring down. Lot of trees here seen to have lost their leaves already as well.

Thanks for the link. An interesting article. I have to be honest, the advice given here was very useful, & I went around & around. I even considered one of the over a thousand pound Sony's & even buying the Sony 50mm f1.8, but after testing my existing lenses at 50mm on a nearby train line, I realises it was not wide enough. I had three main criteria. I would not use it a lot, that knocked out the very expensive lenses. I need it for very fast trains in near dark locations, and for it to be small & light. Reading reviews with reliability & other factors, I decided on the Sony Fe 35mm F1.8.

Sounds like you need a new laptop............................................. again

I don't think so :D It's just a problem on that one site and the movement/cancel buttons. No problems anywhere else at all. I'll try a tablet later and that might pin it down, or not.

OK guys, so I need help here as Im struggling to take the shot I want.
I popped down to Canary wharf, Im not ashamed to admit I was inspired by a post from a couple of weeks ago, I think it was Merlin5, it was a lovely clear winter evening and all my photos are ****

My plan was infinity focus, but didn't think that through, the 55mm 1.8 has no markings (idiot, just grabbed it, cant remember the last time I used it)
Plan B, manually focus for around 50-60mts in front of me - too dark and it is water!
Manual focus then on the buildings - too dark and grainy on the LCD to be sure of anything - you can tell I don't use tripods often..
AF, tried flexible spot, wide, probably all of them while I was there, but 90% of all the photos are out of focus in areas.
I cant exactly remember on my focus point for this one, it was low down as that is where the most sharp areas are, but at F10 I was expecting more to be in focus, I think I will use the CitiGroup logo next time
8 second exposure was maybe too long for stability, will play around with that next time
I was also having a real issue with how to expose a scene like this as it is such a contrasty scene, at one point I had exposure compensation dialled down to -3, I think I was using multi

Im obviously going to have to go back, based on these results probably several times until i get it right, but Im open to advice on how to improve - actually replace open with need :)

I remembered to turn off stabilisation as I was on a tripod

I don't think you need to go back as I think it looks awesome. It's all sharp to my eyes and I absolutely love the way you've captured the water reflections. Colours are beautiful! All you really need to do is brighten it up a bit to make it pop, perhaps bring up the shadows and/or exposure and try and get the taller darkest buildings a bit brighter. Maybe use the graduated filter.

Thanks for that, I will have a go in ON1 and see what I can do with it..

A few from today, A7 and 24mm f2.8.

Love those Toby. Cherish the memories.

Tamron 35-100mm reviews on the rumor site...

I'm impressed with the 24mm f2.8 G. I keep looking at the 40 and 50mm f2.5's, only one would make sense and some of my existing lenses would have to go but these lenses are imo attractive as they're compact and very light, sharp across the frame from wide open and have good contrast and colours and good resistance to flare.

A new bag to put your Sony in...

"Billingham kindly provided us with a review sample of the Mini Eventer prior to its release, and it’s a really lovely bag that offers a step up in luxury from the Hadley range. We’ll be publishing a full review soon."

I have the Hadley small pro which cost under £200, which is significantly less than this new one. I also have a Hadley digital but don't use it very often.

A vid...

Yup. there's some interesting colours and textures. I often carry a No.4 close up filter but I left it at home yesterday but I will try it on this new 24mm f2.8. I didn't fancy climbing over the fence to get closer though, just in case someone shouted "Oi You!"

Fstoppers talking about what camera you could buy if money was no object...

I suppose maybe a Hassleblad X1D and just one lens could tempt me but maybe not. Maybe I'd buy an A1 but again, maybe not as I don't really need the bells and whistles. Maybe I'd just rush out and buy a Sony 40 or 50mm f2.5 G and a long lens, something in Sony mount to replace the 100-400mm I have for MFT. Other than that list of maybes I think I maybe already have everything I might want to rush out and buy.

Would you guys rush out and buy anything?

I wouldn't rush, but a 'blad X1D would be nice for landscape and people snaps.

Mrs WW explaining something. My comment "You're messy" :D

A7 and that 24mm f2.8 G.

I was out in Leicester Square yesterday afternoon just beginning some street photography and I noticed this going on.

Gaga-8.jpg

Turns out there was the UK Premiere of a new movie called 'House Of Gucci' with Lady Gaga, Al Pacino, Salma Hayek, Adam Driver and Jared Leto. I went away to do some street photos elsewhere and returned later and waited around for a couple of hours. Security had covered all those metal barriers so you couldn't see anything. There were only narrow gaps between the metal barriers plus hundreds of people around me all with their phones on selfie sticks. I held my camera as high as I could with one hand and took some shots. I did get to see Gaga once or twice through the gap in the barrier but most were looking up at my LCD screen and hoping for the best! I'm pleased they turned out quite nice since it was difficult to see much detail when holding the camera as high up as possible and the celebs were a fair distance away from me. Was quite an exciting evening. Lots of "Gagaaaaa, we love you!" :D Pity Pacino didn't come.

I am not really a fan of any of those people but you have really caught the opportunity very well (y)

Thanks. I've never seen a movie premiere in the flesh, let alone with a good camera in my hand, so it was a real first for me, fortunate timing and great fun. :)

I am great fan of the cinema, but movie premiers aren't really for me. Been invited to a couple in past, but too many people for me.

Someone just said to me (not from TP) I should be trying to sell these to the press/tabloids. Should I? There were pro photographers there last night and similar photos were already in the evening standard and probably some other papers yesterday. Is it worth me trying? Even my local Finchley times publication?

edit: Ok, I'm giving it a go if perhaps a bit too late now. I just called the Daily Mirror, went through the recorded message options, clicked the correct one but then it kept disconnecting. I then called the Sun and spoke to a man who said he'll find out if they want the pics and to send him a sample or two on whatsapp, and he gave me a phone number to use on whatsapp. So I've sent him some. If they do want any, what could/should I expect money wise?

Leica M10-R, Summilux 35/1.4 and either the 90mm or 75mm Summicron f/2 :)

Then I'd grow a hipster beard, cut 4 inches off the bottom of my jeans & throw all my socks away :)

Yours truly by 'er indoors!! 9 image stitch with the 85mm!!

Is that The Brenizer Method. Always fancied giving that a go and it makes for a really eye catching shot. The dof being at an angle is confusing me a bit but could be the camera held a bit squint. It works though as it draws the eye through to your good self.

Yeah, it certainly wasn't refocused. And neither of us moved position..... Just something I wanted to try and see if the cranky old CS6 would manage it!

Really good picture. That separation you're getting from the background gives it such a 3D quality. Great focal length you used. I love the look I get with my 56mm which is basically 84mm.

Nice, I really like the Brenizer look (y)

Thanks. Just something I wanted to try that's all. I was more interested if CS6 could stitch it okay so I may do more at some point.

What's this method. Just looks like the Toy setting on my camera?
