The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Does anyone have issues with their a9 or any other models light sensor for the auto viewfinder/monitor switch. Ive been noticing when outside, if I pull the camera away from my eye, it rarely switches to the monitor, which is quite annoying when trying to review an image or change settings. Inside it seems a lot better. I’ve even put a bigger eyepiece on in the hope it would help, but it hasn’t.
Upon close inspection, I’ve noticed a small scratch on the sensor above the eyepiece and wondering if that’s interfering with it somewhat or maybe it’s just not that reliable in the first place. It’s a small annoyance, but as it’s my first Sony and I’m always delving in the menu fiddling and chimping each image it’s quite frustrating.
Are you wearing dark clothing?

Give the sensor a blow.
There will be a bit of dust on it.
I had the same issue.....
Edit: just read the bit about your sensor being scratched. Could be that....
Another thing.....I sometimes wear a camo baseball style hat, and depending on how it's sitting on my head the peak can cover the sensor when I pull back to view the monitor....

I can't work out whether people are being serious or not talking about the colour of clothing affecting the EVF sensor?:facepalm::runaway:

Cleaned it, no difference, no hat, no black clothes, no sunglasses. It just doesn’t like bright light outside obviously.

Sounds like an issue to me. Even the A7c which is possibly the worst offender in my experience was nothing more than an annoyance every so often only when camera was held at a certain angle to the sun behind me.

One more from Stonehenge...
35GM, 13 photos stack for 78 seconds exposure

Did you try the tape method I suggested to fix it for outdoors?
Not yet no. Lost the 6 rolls of electrical tape I bought a while back because I lost all the electrical tape.

Anybody tried the Sigma 14-24mm, preferably on an A9?
Just ordered one from Einfinity i,ll report back if its de-centrered... couldnt justify another 1200 for 2mm for the GM...

Can anyone with the 24GM confirm whether you can or can’t hear the aperture opening and closing, when shutter half pressed?

Can hear it with most lenses tbh
I don't remember in case of the 24GM in particular. Someone who owns the lens should be able to confirm but I wouldn't worry about it.

It’s one of those where it may be normal and I’ve never noticed it. But I can hear it if camera is at my waist height

EDIT: appears that I had lifeview effect off. Now it’s on it works as normal with no sound.

Not really ever noticed this but to be fair I pretty much always have effects on.

yes live view effects off will focus wide open and close down the aperture to take a shot.
most lenses will have an audible aperture close down noise as a result.

if you click/change through the aperture very quickly you might still be able to hear some noise.

Anyone think any of the lens manufacturers might ever make an e mount zoom lens as small as the Sony 16-50 kit lens but with a fast constant aperture and better optics? I've been considering the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 and Sony 16-55 f2.8, but for most of the stuff I like to do which is street photography, they're too long and not discreet, particularly when zoomed.

Sony Zeiss 16-70mm f4?

While I'm sure manufacturers would love to make what you are asking, physics kinda gets in the way ;)
Sony APS-C lenses aren't even that big, you should look at Fuji lenses :P

One lens I'm consistently pleased with is the Panasonic 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 G Vario Mega OIS as it's truly teeny tiny and useable from wide open but sadly I can't see how that sort of size or anything like it could be maintained for FF and even if it could it'd be dismissed as rubbish if the corners are smudgy. Maybe the Sony 28-60mm is going to be as compact as it's going to get.
