Are you wearing dark clothing?Does anyone have issues with their a9 or any other models light sensor for the auto viewfinder/monitor switch. Ive been noticing when outside, if I pull the camera away from my eye, it rarely switches to the monitor, which is quite annoying when trying to review an image or change settings. Inside it seems a lot better. I’ve even put a bigger eyepiece on in the hope it would help, but it hasn’t.
Upon close inspection, I’ve noticed a small scratch on the sensor above the eyepiece and wondering if that’s interfering with it somewhat or maybe it’s just not that reliable in the first place. It’s a small annoyance, but as it’s my first Sony and I’m always delving in the menu fiddling and chimping each image it’s quite frustrating.
Either dark green or maroon usually. Are you wearing dark clothing?
Give the sensor a blow. Are you wearing dark clothing?
When I try and review the photos while wearing a black waterproof or sunglasses, the monitor switches off.Either dark green or maroon usually.
Cleaned it, no difference, no hat, no black clothes, no sunglasses. It just doesn’t like bright light outside obviously.Give the sensor a blow.
There will be a bit of dust on it.
I had the same issue.....
Edit: just read the bit about your sensor being scratched. Could be that....
Another thing.....I sometimes wear a camo baseball style hat, and depending on how it's sitting on my head the peak can cover the sensor when I pull back to view the monitor....
Is there a dress code for the A9 lol. I haven't had any issues with the EVF on my A9 works very quicklyAre you wearing dark clothing?
You have already said the eye sensor is damaged. It’s most likely that this is the problem.Cleaned it, no difference, no hat, no black clothes, no sunglasses. It just doesn’t like bright light outside obviously.
Of course you get vastly improved performance if wear the alpha orange coloursIs there a dress code for the A9 lol. I haven't had any issues with the EVF on my A9 works very quickly
Wait till you find out the special AF dance you need to do. No wonder your A7RIV didn't perform as per your expectations.I can't work out whether people are being serious or not talking about the colour of clothing affecting the EVF sensor?![]()
Sounds like an issue to me. Even the A7c which is possibly the worst offender in my experience was nothing more than an annoyance every so often only when camera was held at a certain angle to the sun behind me.Cleaned it, no difference, no hat, no black clothes, no sunglasses. It just doesn’t like bright light outside obviously.

I'm being very serious, however it's with an A7m3I can't work out whether people are being serious or not talking about the colour of clothing affecting the EVF sensor?![]()
It's fooked thenCleaned it, no difference, no hat, no black clothes, no sunglasses. It just doesn’t like bright light outside obviously.
Been out since 6am til about 10 in the woods and a hide without a single issue, so not completely. Just certain situations. It's fooked then
Did you try the tape method I suggested to fix it for outdoors?Been out since 6am til about 10 in the woods and a hide without a single issue, so not completely. Just certain situations.
Not yet no. Lost the 6 rolls of electrical tape I bought a while back because I lost all the electrical tape.Did you try the tape method I suggested to fix it for outdoors?
Just ordered one from Einfinity i,ll report back if its de-centrered... couldnt justify another 1200 for 2mm for the GM...Anybody tried the Sigma 14-24mm, preferably on an A9?
Can hear it with most lenses tbhCan anyone with the 24GM confirm whether you can or can’t hear the aperture opening and closing, when shutter half pressed?
It’s one of those where it may be normal and I’ve never noticed it. But I can hear it if camera is at my waist heightCan hear it with most lenses tbh
I don't remember in case of the 24GM in particular. Someone who owns the lens should be able to confirm but I wouldn't worry about it.
Dodgy thenBeen out since 6am til about 10 in the woods and a hide without a single issue, so not completely. Just certain situations.

EDIT: appears that I had lifeview effect off. Now it’s on it works as normal with no sound.

Sony Zeiss 16-70mm f4?Anyone think any of the lens manufacturers might ever make an e mount zoom lens as small as the Sony 16-50 kit lens but with a fast constant aperture and better optics? I've been considering the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 and Sony 16-55 f2.8, but for most of the stuff I like to do which is street photography, they're too long and not discreet, particularly when zoomed.
