The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Thinking to get a spare battery for the A7iii, I guess it's still some scam on ebay, a few listing for the NP-FZ100 at £32 and a few listing for both battery and charger for £50. Some have good feedback but seem to sell nothing camera-related apart from this. I guess it's best to avoid.

definitely fakes
MPB normally have a quite a number of used ones if you want to buy one.

The trouble is that you don't know how genuine the used MPB ones are. I'm very happy with these I bought:

At least you know there are 100% not Sony but are still excellent batteries.

you can I think, have a read of this

The picture on MPB are of the actual battery and clear enough to identify if its fake or not

I don't really get people buying bodies £2k+ and then looking to save £50 on a battery.
With the FZ100 you don't need many spares as the last a fair while.

I agree I mostly shoot jpeg and set WB at 6000k you just find the warmth that you want in your shots .

Rob.
You can but I wasn't referring to that. You can customise each individual WB setting eg you can change AWB so that it's warmer/cooler or has a different tint that it would give 'normally', likewise with cloudy etc. I'm not talking about choosing a custom option and setting the kelvin scale yourself (y)

@dancook I don't know if you understood this is what I meant too?

Yes, auto white balance ‘compensation’

A lovely couple of hours at Linlithgow Loch. Mostly used the D850 but had the A7R IV with 100-400GM for when the action was closer.

Lovely light and detail on the swan.
We took the motorhome to Beecraigs Country Park late last year and had a walk into Linlithgow.
Lovely place.
We'll definately be going back there this year.

How are you liking the a7iii, Thomas?

It is a great place for a walk, nature and some shots of the Palace. Lots to do in the area with the Falkirk Wheel and Kelpies too. My mate shoots images in Beecraigs regularly but I haven't went there yet. On my list for Autumn though

I find this bit interesting....
"Sigma Art is much lighter and cheaper."
(compare to GM that is, cheaper is expected but much lighter is a surprised)

Pity the a.f is slow

no idea, I wouldn't trust the rumors, first it was heavier and larger now is much lighter somehow....
I'll wait till the reviews are out

considering how well they have done on the 85DN i feel the AF will be just fine.

DPR's Sony A1 review is now complete...

Great thanks, I think I like it. I'm still playing with it really, I've not had has much chance to use it. I think I'm getting there with putting the function I want on all the custom buttons.
I had forgotten how shallow is the depth of field in full-frame compare to my MFT system. Took some lambs and dogs photo which turn out rubbish because they were focus on the nose and not the eye. Even at 35mm f2.8 the depth of field can be shallow.

Went to Canary Wharf today to take some photos. On the train on the way there, a young guy opposite asked me if I'm a photographer. I said well, an amateur one yes, not a pro. Nice guy, we chatted and he wanted to know if I could recommend a microphone for his Canon camera, he didn't say what model. I said I've no idea, I don't do video but I did tell him to join TP and someone will undoubtedly help him. It's pretty cool, I've met one or two other photographers on my street photography travels. Anyway, I've never been to Canary Wharf before, it's unbelievably impressive when you're actually there. Really hi-tech skyscrapers and architecture and an almost futuristic design of the area.

Hate that place, it's a ghost town lol.

Rode Video Micro or one of the copies like Comica, the new rode wireless go 2 is a wonderful option for lavalier style but a touch pricey.

Lol yeah, I must admit, it's not a place that would interest me to go back to more than one more time, but certainly some interesting things to photograph while I was there. Was quite busy there today and actually, I went to the HSBC building to see if I could get any photos of the extinction rebellion protest that happened today but didn't see anything so I think they had already been moved on.

Ah yeah, Rode is a name I was trying to think of at the time. I know they make good gear.

Keeping a close on on this one
Me too, i had planned on the Voigtlander 35f1.2 for night time street stuff, but this could be a close call between the two lenses. AF vs a bit more light.

just read from Brian Smith that the tamron 150-500 will be released in June this year. looks like it might be a great lens.

Just had an email from WEX announcing the Tamron 150-500mm f5-6.7 Di III VC VXD (£1379); Tamron 11-20 f2.8 (for APS-C) (£819) and a new Samyang 12mm (£350) again for APS-C

I am right in saying that if you buy from Panamoz then you can't register it on Sony's Website?

Just received my samyang 18mm f2.8 FE and it's not good :-(.
On manual focus performance is great but the AF is constantly wrong. Like totally out of focus that even at F8 it's still blurred...
I've just tested it on a tripod, steadyshot of, focusing straigh on onto my house in good light and compared to manual focus. It's not even close to be in focus.
Check the firmware that seem to be the latest.

Any ideas?
I think I will have to send it back.

I've got that lens (as you know) and AF is fine.

I've not even updated the firmware, it was spot on out of the box.

Sounds like you need to return it unfortunately.

Gutted, MF is good and love the size and price!

I have one too, and the AF works exactly as expected. A return sounds best.

I assume you have tested other lenses and they all work fine?
If so probably best to return it.

Samyang quality control strikes again
