My contribution to the staying at home theme.

Just trying my Chinon 28mm f2.8. This is a bit of a torture test for the bokeh as the cabinet full of books and CD's can look rough. I am rather impressed with this though, for an old and cheap film era prime.

As expected it has some vignetting but it's certainly sharp in the central area. I hope the sharpness survives the posting process.

It does seem to be a nice cheap 28mm f2.8 with no significant vices.

I'm looking forward to being able to take these two, Chinon 28mm f2.8 and 50mm f1.4 out as a pair. These two complete my council house prime set :D

I have a Leica M to Sony helicoid adapter but no lens to use with it.

Are there any bargain priced lenses I could look at? I've been impressed with the e mount Voigtlander 35mm f1.4 which is very compact and I thought there might be a compact 50mm I could use with this slim Leica helicoid adapter and so keep the bulk down as any lens used with a SLR adapter ends up being about as bulky as the Sony 55mm f1.8. So far I've pretty much drawn a blank. There are some tiny 35mm lenses like the Voigtlander 35mm f1.4 but I already have the e mount version and another thing is I just don't like lenses with those finger operated focus tabs, in fact I hate them and much prefer a proper focus ring.

Any pointers to any reasonably priced M mount 50's?

Its better most other 85mm lenses on Sony. Only the 85GM is a tad better in retaining a little more contrast in backlit situations. But sigma is smaller, smoother AF and sharper.
I'd pick sigma :p
 
A very long enjoyable morning. First up trying for a sunrise on the east coast down at Canty Bay. Nothing happening in the sky and no colour or light but at last I set the camera up right and also used the Bluetooth remote which was excellent. The manual focus for landscapes is brilliant and I enjoyed the detail in the files but I already have more dust bunnies than any camera I have ever owned. Any tips for dust with Sony mirrorless. Can I wet clean the same as DSLRs

Next up a 7 mile walk with the dog walking group. I'm hoping to get some portfolio shots to start a dog photography business but the walks are great regardless of the photo opportunities.

This is my little routine.

Put the lens cap on.
Turn the camera off.
Turn away from the wind.
Point the camera down
Place the next lens front end down and loosen the end cap.
Remove the mounted lens and place it down or in the bag.
Remove the end cap from the new lens and mount it on the camera.
Place the end cap on the old lens.

I do a lot of lens changes and I do them anywhere and everywhere but I don't seem to suffer dust bunnies and in fact I can't remember the last time I did a wet clean. I do check for bunnies by taking an out of focus minimum aperture picture of a white door quite often.

Yes you can wet clean but the first thing I normally try is the cameras inbuilt cleaning thingy, after that I use a rocket and a wet clean is my last resort. I use a home made cleaning tool made from a Pec Pad wrapped around a slice cut from an old credit card and I add a drop of Eclipse fluid.

Here's what many would think a rather bad place to do lens changes. I took 24 and 50mm lenses and kept changing as I felt the need, maybe did a dozen or more and at the end of the day, no bunnies :D

Of all the cameras I've had, the A7III has had the least dust problems and only needed a single wet clean after 18 months. The coating on the sensor appears less resistant than those of other makes, so it's worth getting the right kit. Cheers. I have some Full Frame swabs and Eclipse fluid from my D850s. Is there anything different from the Sonys apart from not having a mirror

I'd check compatibility of your fluid. Other than that - I just popped the lens off & swabbed in the usual way.
 
One more to add to my little collection and this is the last I'm buying.

The adapter came the other day but unfortunately when I opened the box it was the wrong one so I'll have to wait for another to arrive before trying this out. It seems to be small for an f1.4. The similar looking 55mm f1.8 is an even better buy.

That a great set, especially that I just ordered a samyang 18mm today from ebay so now i'm looking forward to receiving it.

I intend to use mine more for astrophoto but always nice to have a wide lens in the bag for big landscape.

I wonder where Canon are getting the sensors? If it is a stacked one. I thought they lacked the ability to make this sort of sensor, if they've upgraded their manufacturing capability it must have cost them a lot.

With a 500 or 600 prime you would definitely prefer the Canon.

I doubt I would but I suppose I can see the appeal for others.

When I have used a large lens on a small body I've never found it to be a problem as my right hand holds the camera with my finger on the shutter and my left is supporting the lens and ready to twist the rings. The largest lens / smallest body combination I have now is the Panasonic GX80 and 100-400mm, it's not an issue at all.

Cheers guys. My boy stayed with me & we set a 1:30am alarm..... Stopped of near Chew Valley Lake & the old "astro tree" as they are literally next to the car locations. This tree is up on a hill (where I took some of my snow photos) about a mile or so from the car park. Walked up to there at about 3:30am.... I've got to try this night stuff properly with a tent & stove etc :)
 
And at least you can take the 500/600mm off and put a 35mm f2.8 on the Sony and end up with something you can carry in a small man bag.

my understanding is that the larger body was more a requirement for sports DSLRs to achieve higher frame rates with larger batteries. Even with the large body they struggle to go past 15fps.
With mirrorless especially one with a stacked sensor this is not a problem and if someone needs more juice you can just add a grip.
So making a body larger than R5/6 is basically artificially bloating the body to satisfy a few old sport togs set in their old ways and think big equals better.
That's not for me and I do not feel an artificially bloated body will do well overall but only time will tell.
But I was right about the artificially bloated Samsung NX1 :p
 
That's how I see it unless there's some technical reason why Canon have done this rather than just thinking big is better.

Good luck to those who want or genuinely need a camera like this but thankfully I don't.

It also offers more options for internal cooling, and with high frame rates and ever increasing MP images, the heat generated is becoming significant
