The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Would appreciate it Malcolm, I can find RAW files but they are mainly landscape and I want subjects that take up 25% or less of the frame really.

Thanks.
I can provide you with files like that, just not with the 200-600mm

That would be helpful Toby, it will give me an idea of what to expect in the meantime (y)
Give me a nudge later and I'll upload some to dropbox (y)

A1 available at Panamoz for £5350

I also saw a big discount on the A9II, almost the same price as my A9 new in the UK.

Alas the two lenses I'm looking at don't seem to have much off. The 35mm as we know and the other is the 200-600mm which is £1,440 at Panamoz but £1,599 at WEX. The Sigma at E-Infiniti is tempting at a £300 saving, but I'm firmly with the Sony now.

Panamoz can go lower still on the A9II if you ask nicely (y)

@trevorbray .... Looking to possibly order a7r4 and 200-60mm from Panamoz, however have never ordered from them before. I know they are Grey but what makes them different from the other Suppliers? What would I lose and gain? What happens if I have a problem with either items? I would then offload my a7r3.

Grey importers don't pay the correct import duties and hence why they are cheaper. Customer service is excellent and I've never heard a bad word said against their service. If there is a warranty issue they ask you to send it into the UK manufacturers service centre and then pick up the bill for you.

Panamoz, although based in HK, are about the most efficient dealers I have bought from - certainly better service than Wex. From order to receipt takes roughly a week. Sometimes longer, often less. I have never had to use their 3 year warranty but others here have. They are called “grey” dealers because some will argue that their business practice is a grey area. No doubt you will now receive responses from the holier-than-thou folk who argue that it is illegal. Although I doubt that any of them are international trade lawyers.

I paid £1,336 for my 200-600mm from Panamoz about 2 weeks ago. Their price was £1,380 at the time, but they price matched another grey importer for me. I think I used T-dimension's price which is currently £1,326. Worth asking them to see if there is anything they can do on price.

@Mike.P as promised here's some files. Pretty poor efforts in bad lighting so a real test for the sensor and recovery (I think they turned out 'ok', see below). Some are taken in crop mode, and some full size. All shot on the A9-II

Yep. I’ve dealt with them for years. I once had a problem with a camera I’d used. It happened within 14 days of delivery. They asked for it back and re supplied. I’ve also been able to transfer the 3 year warranty when I sold a lens on. Fantastic customer service. Honestly cannot fault them. And great prices.

Thanks Toby, will take a look. Do the Sony's shoot .DNG as RAW as well as .ARW then? I downloaded a couple of files from DPR and they were quite a bit larger.

No, I got into the habit of converting to .DNG when I had the A7RIV files were huge. Converting to .DNG it essentially like lossless compression. I’ve compared extensively and can find no difference between the .ARW and .DNG files.

Cheers, just did my own quick edit of one of yours in DXO, gave me a nice looking file. Have fired off an email to Panamoz re A9 II and 200-600mm.

Think most of my Canon gear may be going up for sale.

Panamoz have some unusual pricing recently, I've been looking at buying the Tamron 28-75, currently Panamoz have it at £725 but it seems to change daily. The other day I'm sure it was at £825 when people like Park Cameras have it at £699 which has been consistent in the UK.
In the end I bought it on here which I am very happy with.

Just thinking about my last holiday, Singapore.

A7 and 35mm f2.8.

I really like these flower covered walkways, taken from the bus.

Love that place Alan, I've been over there quite a few times covering F1 photography and have usually tried to stick around for a few extra days.

Mrs WW's sister is married to a Singapore Chinese guy so we went to stay with them. I really liked the place, less keen on my BIL :D A few of things surprised me, the wonderful transport system, the amazing shopping centres, loved the hawker markets and I was surprised to find basic things in shops 3 to 5 times the UK cost. I don't think we'll be going back as they've moved to a much smaller apartment. Could stay in a hotel I suppose.

Does anyone have one of the Tamron wide angle primes with their super-close focussing ability, and if so, is it useful?

Sony 35mm 1.4 back in stock with Panamoz...ah sod it, a little treat for me :D Hope it's worth it!

Just playing with the size comparator.

A7 with 35mm f2.8, f1.8 and the new 35mm f1.4 plus the Canon 5D with Sigma 50mm f1.4 that I used to have.

I keep thinking that the new bigger lenses are bringing the bulk and weight up but I suppose the overall bulk is still less. I can't say that I'm completely happy with the bigger lenses though. The Voigtlander 35mm f1.4 which seem to be becoming ever more a favourite is about the size of the Sony 35mm f2.8.

I had another go at the moon last night as the last time I tried in november it had some noise and artifacts. GreenNinja67 at that time suggested stacking. I set manual focus, took 8 photos at 3 second intervals using the interval timer on the sony, and in photoshop aligned and stacked them. ISO 100, F11, 1/13 sec and 350 (525mm). How does this look?

Looks good to me....

Thanks Bob. It's the only moon photo I've managed so far where the dark patches look fairly smooth without too much grain. I also ran it through Topaz.

This is what sealed the deal for me. I also considered that shoving that mahoosive Sigma 1.2 in my children's faces could have a more terrorising effect rather than a nice family snap.

Looks good to me. I’m going to have to try that stacking process as I can never crop in that close and still get a decent looking image, as you say normally the borders of the dark patches start to look dodgy.

Thanks, yeah even now, I can still perceive some mild grain in the main body of the dark but stacking certainly helps.

I wasn’t expecting pancakes tbh, but I still think it’s a shame they’re not f1.8’s.
They look good to me. Look absolutely perfect for the A7C with the aperture control ring.
Shame they're either too slow or something I already have.

Cool.
Just found the A9?

I have so many camera bags I always forget which one has a camera in. I'm so looking forward to putting the 70-200mm on the A9 for my swans shots when I can go and see them in a couple of weeks.
