The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Hmm.... You can't quite compare lenses like so. Well you can but not sure it'll tell you the the right story. Because of the larger mount and longer flange the canon lenses will be fatter and overall setup end up slightly longer.
Well I can still see from the pictures that the gap is smaller regardless of mount size etc :p

Basically to add if you want more finger room with large mount the only way to do it is with a larger body but your overall setup will still be longer because of longer flange.
S1R is a fair bit bigger and more importantly wider to get a decent room between lens and grip. R5 is wider than A9II but the increase in its width is in line with the extra diameter of the mount. Plus the lenses are fatter. So you will have the same problem you do with Sony unless they make the RF bodies bigger/wider.

Yeah I get that, my point was the 50mm f1.2 on the Canon has less room than the Sony with 85mm DG DN and as there's barely enough room on the Sony I wouldn't be able to use the Canon with 50mm f1.2. It was just an observation, I have no intention of getting the Canon, nor can afford a 50mm f1.2 ;)

Will be too much for me as well considering it's just for personal use. Looks like the Sigma 35mm 1.2 is back in the game for me along with the Sony 35mm 1.8.

As it's quiet in here.

Mrs WW wanted these snaps to send to her family and friends. It's the first time she's made this recipe and used this little former.

Look Yum Yum? They're filled with either Quorn mince and mixed vegetables or cheese. We're having some later.

A7 and Sony 35mm f1.8. Ha ha! Bet that shocked you! Me! Using an AF lens! :D

The lighting in the kitchen is not very photo friendly and in fact is very photo unfriendly but they came out ok and look good on her tablet.

"The new FE 50mm F1.2 GM will be available in May and will be sold for approximately $2,000.00 USD "

oh noes.... that's coming into "may be I can afford one  " GAS territory

Stop it.

Just. Stop. It.

:D

Actually the Voigtlander 50m f1.2 is about £850 so maybe I wont be interested.
Plus I already have the 40mm f1.2.

You'd have to really like your 50mm lenses to pay that much. I'd want a camera with it for that.

Aye, and the rest ...

But is it worth it?

Depends who you ask.
I’ll rephrase it. What type of photographer and photography would benefit from it? Not knocking it, just genuinely curious as to the market.

Portraiture, Weddings. But even then it would be niche, really niche.

I'd get one, probably used, but i am a bokeh whore. I still miss my 85/1.2.

Even I'm tempted.

I'll give myself a good talking to.

PS.
I think the Sony bokeh looks a little nicer than the Canon bokeh in Manny's vid. This may vary from subject and scene.

PPS.
After some worries it looks like Sony may have made a very nice lens and arguably the best of the 3? (Sony, Nikon and Canon?)

I think if you’re a pro who demands the best, or you just happen to be rich and can afford the best then I can see why you’d buy it as it’s not much difference in size and weight to the f1.4’s. If it was huge like the Nikon then I can’t see why you’d want that, but then the giant Sigma primes have done well

I have never actually owned a 50/1.2, the Canon EF wasn't that great, opted at the time for the Sigma 50/1.4. I will get it, but not at launch, the ZA does everything just fine. More interested to get the 35GM first.

The 35GM is very good.

"IT MADE EXPLORE" :) :)

Just a simple Landscape type Snapograph taken at Dungeness Kent UK of a discarded Fishermans Hut with a discarded Fishing Boat in the background of which both have been left to rot. On the right is one of the old railway lines that were used for hauling the boats or catch up the beach from the sea. I've deliberately gone for a higher contrast gritty look for this snap to emphasize the desolate terrain, decay & textures etc.
I'm also working on a personal project called Things Left Behind and this will be one of the shots included.

Nicely done, great composition withe the boat in the background.

The A9 has now overtaken the D850 as my favourite ever camera. The only issue I can see is having to cull so many good images. The rare glimpse of a yellow thing in the sky made it an even better camera and it locked on like a limpet with wide AF and animal focus. I could have got shots with the D850 along the same lines but the frame rate and ease at which it captures action is stunning. Just wish the A7R IV could track even half as well with my Dog. It is hugely able with human subjects but struggles with the dog

Yup and IMO it's looks rather odd, in a good way :D almost like it's floating (apt for a boat) in mid air or has flown up from a high wave and is heading for the hut.

Got to admit, with this 50/1.2 release it made sticking with Sony long term a lot more attractive.
Sony are impressing me with their lenses. I can't afford most of them, but it's really establishing itself as a VERY competitive system.

Yup.

I can see how people might not be happy with the Sony body ergonomics but it doesn't bother me at all. Other than that IMO we're nit picking CA and bokeh with some very nice lenses. The menu, colour science and compressed raw debates don't interest me in the slightest.

Id like to see a 70-200 like canons extending RF versions. Canons RF versions are so compact and light. The F4 versions isn’t that much bigger than their 24-105 f4.

The RF70-200/2.8 isn't all that great optically.
The tamron 70-180mm is optically better.

RF lenses on the whole are a bit disappointing so far.
