yeah that true 400mm is DO.

I certainly like the wide end of a 100-400mm, in fact I really loved my a-mount Sony 70-400mm one of the reasons I shot a-mount. I wish my 200-600mm was at least 150-600mm but I guess that's the trade off between size and quality.
 
I'm just giving this a bump up as as far as I can see no answer yet so I'm not sure if no one knows or it's been overlooked in all the general chat.

No I saw the question but I have no experience with 3rd party Z batteries.
I have used duracell batteries back in the days with a-mount Sony DSLRs and they worked really well.
But I think the problem with firmware was that it didn't display the battery life properly or showed a waning but the camera continued to work. if its on amazon its worth looking at the recent user reviews.

I always used ExPro batteries in the past but read too many stories of Sonys playing up with third party so I've got 3 genuine Sony ones.

Bird Eye AF is like any Eye AF, it will be useful to some and not to others. The advantage is that it allows you to concentrate on composition rather than fighting to keep the AF point on the eye yourself, but I've coped so far without it and will continue to cope without it (y)

The Z batteries last for ever, you don't need that many so worth buying the genuine sony one IMO. I only have 4 batteries between two cameras.

I have 3 but have never needed more than 2, even when I've been doing motorsports.
 
A bit rusty, so much so that the lid catch broke and it wont hang up anymore.

A7 and 85mm f1.8 at f1.8.

They were only cheap but I love the little glass windows with their little pictures so it's staying as a garden ornament.

Freezing in the hide this morning. There was a lovely nuthatch visiting but every time he landed I missed focus, turns out I had enabled the touch screen and every time I tried to get a shot my big nose moved the focus point.....

Nice pics

I don't have a hide unfortunately, my garden's not really set up for it. Also, our garden is south facing which is great for us, but when shooting birds in the garden I'm always facing the sun which isn't great. But we make do with what we have ;)

I always disable the touchscreen for that very reason.
 
The A9 and 100-400 on its first outing. I let my wife shoot a series while me and the kids ran towards her with our dog. She used back focus and gunned it and the result was around 100 very well focussed images. My wife has never used back focus and probably only used a dslr a handful of times, nearly always unsuccessfully.. So easy it feels like cheating. This is pretty much filling the frame barring a crop to the top and it continued to nail focus until we were only a few yards away.

How come she takes better photos than you? :LOL:
 
According to SAR sigma are going to announce a lens to compete with the Tamron 28-75mm but why would they do that when they already have the 24-70mm f2.8? Could it be another case of misinformation?

Im a little surprised they haven’t brought out an e-mount 24-105mm f4 yet as the Canikon versions are pretty decent.

Well, seeing as I've just bought the Sony one I'm sure Sigma will....and it'll be half the price and no doubt perform better.
 
I've seen that you can get third party tripod collars for the Tamron 70-180mm but they fit on the narrow part of the barrel next to the mount, not sure that's a great design as it's going to make it very cramped for your fingers :oops: :$

That's interesting, I was just about to buy one of those but I'll have to do some more research on that.

Tripod use and battery Changes it’ll need to come off.
But unlike 3rd party versions of this grip there’s no need to carry a coin to unlock it, it’s nice and quick.

I use this on my A9.
Love it. Makes it more comfortable to hold. No need to remove it to change battery etc.
Works with Arca clamp.
Side section is adjustable/removable.

That's bit of a pain

And no need to carry anything with my l-bracket
Couple magnets firmly holds a allen key at the bottom. Besides you shouldn't be unlock it anyway as you can get to the battery.

I’ve had that. Really uncomfortable for me. Felt too much like a cold chunk of metal on the end. The Sony one feels more seamless. I’m all for 3rd party stuff, but have found the Sony one is the best for me.
 
It’s odd how ergonomics vary from person to person isn’t it. I have larger than average hands and struggle with the room between grip and lens but the height has never bothered me, even with the 100-400mm.

100%. I’ve actually got slim hands but some lenses I find there’s little room. The mc 11 adapter do example, the usb cover flap digs right into my finger.
