I think this is why Mark Galer got his new vid out quickly to put things right.
Rob.
I've just skimmed that. Unless I'm wrong he seems to make the A1 look very good

Thanksthey are certainly cute. first one is lovely and sharp
It’s to do with the diffractive optics technology in the 400mm f4 isn’t it. I’m not 100% sure on the technology but thought it was similar in how the Nikon PF technology reduces the size of the Nikon 300mm f4 over standard lens construction.
If you’re thinking of using any lens at say around 600mm your usually better off with a 600mm lens than a shorter lens with a teleconverter. I quite like the 400mm focal length. I find it’s a sweet spot for the wildlife I photograph. It would nice to have a teleconverter for the odd occasions I need longer but Sony’s teleconverters are too niche to be a good buy as there are limited lenses you can use them on. The 100-400 has a good range as I can go wider if I want too. That’s something I’d miss with a prime lens but it’s the trade off of weight, aperture and size.
HI, Just moved over to Sony from Canon and I need some advice on third party batteries, in this case Duracell for the A9, as I understand it Sony did something in there firmware so as make the camera not recognise these third party batteries but as Duracell are a well known company just wonder if anyone can tell me if the camera sees the battery as it would a Sony. I have two Sony but would like a couple back up's in this cold weather. Also on a side note I see that there is a lot of discussion on the bird eye tech as I state above just moved to Sony and really cannot see what this option would do as finding the A9 out performs my old Canon 7D MK II hands down just as it is. Thank You, Russ.
I'm just giving this a bump up as as far as I can see no answer yet so I'm not sure if no one knows or it's been overlooked in allthe general chat.

The second one is actually sharper than the first before Flickr/TP destroys itthey are certainly cute. first one is lovely and sharp
I always used ExPro batteries in the past but read too many stories of Sonys playing up with third party so I've got 3 genuine Sony ones.No I saw the question but I have no experience with 3rd party Z batteries.
I have used duracell batteries back in the days with a-mount Sony DSLRs and they worked really well.
But I think the problem with firmware was that it didn't display the battery life properly or showed a waning but the camera continued to work. if its on amazon its worth looking at the recent user reviews.
Bird Eye AF is like any Eye AF, it will be useful to some and not to others. The advantage is that it allows you to concentrate on composition rather than fighting to keep the AF point on the eye yourself, but I've coped so far without it and will continue to cope without itHI, Just moved over to Sony from Canon and I need some advice on third party batteries, in this case Duracell for the A9, as I understand it Sony did something in there firmware so as make the camera not recognise these third party batteries but as Duracell are a well known company just wonder if anyone can tell me if the camera sees the battery as it would a Sony. Settle Weir by Stephen Lee, on FlickrI have 3 but have never needed more than 2, even when I've been doing motorsports. The Z batteries last for ever, you don't need that many so worth buying the genuine sony one IMO. I only have 4 batteries between two cameras.
Patina, as Drew would say.A bit rusty, so much so that the hid catch broke and it wont hang up anymore.

Freezing in the hide this morning. There was a lovely nuthatch visiting but every time he landed I missed focus, turns out I had enabled the touch screen and every time I tried to get a shot my big nose moved the focus point.....
Haha, thanksLove it. 11 on the cutenessesssss register
How come she takes better photos than you?The A9 and 100-400 on its first outing. I let my wife shoot a series while me and the kids ran towards her with our dog. She used back focus and gunned it and the result was around 100 very well focussed images. My wife has never used back focus and probably only used a dslr a handful of times, nearly always unsuccessfully.. So easy it feels like cheating. This is pretty much filling the frame barring a crop to the top and it continued to nail focus until we were only a few yards away.

She did on this occasion. Annoyingly lolHow come she takes better photos than you?![]()
Not when its connected to a Sony bodyPretty sure the 300mm f4 PF is an AF lens
Didn't mean say connected to a Sony body, just that Sony should make a similar one nativelyNot when its connected to a Sony body
Right. I'd be surprised if they did,Didn't mean say connected to a Sony body, just that Sony should make a similar one natively
According to SAR sigma are going to announce a lens to compete with the Tamron 28-75mm but why would they do that when they already have the 24-70mm f2.8? Could it be another case of misinformation?
Im a little surprised they haven’t brought out an e-mount 24-105mm f4 yet as the Canikon versions are pretty decent.
That's interesting, I was just about to buy one of those but I'll have to do some more research on that.I've seen that you can get third party tripod collars for the Tamron 70-180mm but they fit on the narrow part of the barrel next to the mount, not sure that's a great design as it's going to make it very cramped for your fingers![]()
Does it work as a tripod plate too?View attachment 308635View attachment 308636View attachment 308637
I’ve tried many ways to make these cameras more comfortable for adult hands. This Sony pinky extension is by far the best I’ve tried.
Does it work as a tripod plate too?
Or do you need to take it off to attach the tripod plate
I use this on my A9.Does it work as a tripod plate too?
Or do you need to take it off to attach the tripod plate
Tripod use and battery Changes it’ll need to come off.
But unlike 3rd party versions of this grip there’s no need to carry a coin to unlock it, it’s nice and quick.

That's bit of a pain
And no need to carry anything with my l-bracket
Couple magnets firmly holds a allen key at the bottom. Besides you shouldn't be unlock it anyway as you can get to the battery.

It’s odd how ergonomics vary from person to person isn’t it. I have larger than average hands and struggle with the room between grip and lens but the height has never bothered me, even with the 100-400mm.
