The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Life seems to be almost returning to normal here. The restrictions and one way systems are disappearing from some if not all shops but the majority of people are wearing face masks and at least to a degree social distancing. Without wanting to resort too much to sweeping stereotypes those not wearing masks and not social distancing often seem to be the sort of people you'd guess wouldn't bother from the look of them.

I looked up the stats for my area and was pleasantly surprised. Here's hoping things get better not worse.

The rule of thumb for all of the U.K areas is that if more than 30 people per 100,000 are infected full lockdown measures are put back in place immediately according to our head scientist interview on the telly this morning.

Northern Ireland is currently running at 24 in 100,000 and we are looking likely to go back into full lockdown from tomorrow evening or at least severe restrictions put in place anyway.

England is running at 22, so it may not be long before the same happens there as well.

200-600 is all over the place today, was £1439 at cameraworld earlier and just gone up to £1499 which is still quite a good deal.

I'm glad I didn't buy it last week when I almost convinced myself.

Sharpness is all in the mind now days. Look at the Masters of Photography, not all of their great images were sharp yet loved by all.
Something similar to this started me on my obsession on old manual glass, all the memorable photos I saw when younger were taken on lenses that were nowhere near as sharp as modern lenses.
For me they have a look, and I think that comes from the design compromises that had to make back then. Modern glass might be pin sharp, but there are alot of lenses now that you could not go back in time and use on old cameras as they rely on in camera corrections to fix the design flaws.

Strange, i don't have the option of finance on my Amazon Prime

Not sure what the criteria is, it's not offered on every item. Our Prime account is a student one so maybe it's just to entice students to go further into debt :sneaky:

I remember seeing it a few weeks ago on a Sony A9 but just checked again and it's vanished :p

I’ve been waiting for it on the Sony 70-200mm f4 or Tamron 70-180mm

Scottish Government says its too early and risky to take Aberdeen out of lockdown so they will review figures again next week.
So for a third week we are still on the 5 mile radius malarky.
Most of our 5 mile radius includes the North Sea :D
Aberdeen City Council on the other hand - the same council that handed out licenses to pubs and built tents to encourage drinkers to meet up resulting in soaring Covid numbers - say that they are not going to listen to our FM and everything will open from the weekend!!
Scottish Govt giving Aberdeen CC £1m to help out small businesses.
I bet they won't refuse that though.
This is what we come to expect from a Labour, Tory & Independent coalition.
Think I'll stick with Wee Nicola's proposals. She's done well up to now.

This is a 9 picture stitch. I just wondered how the stitching would cope with the cables and it did quite a good job with just the central frame needing to be fettled with the clone tool. It's doubtless not perfect and it doesn't look like reality with mad barrel like distortion but no one looking at this as a print would notice. Or would they?

A7 and Sony 35mm f2.8.

Happiness is a cheese and pickle sarnie, in the rain.

The Nikon 50mm f1.8 works well with my No.4 close up filter.

Few snapshots from a day at Worbarrow Bay. We did our best to avoid the crowds!

I reduced the size of the vertical image. Does that fit the screen better for people? I know sometimes they need scrolling to view.
The portrait orientation looks fine on phone but as always on this forum you can never view the whole image on large screen.

@LeeRatters Much prefer the second photo, no people in the foreground being a distraction

Yeah. First was just sat inside the beach tent :)

Okay. I know sharing at 1600 long (same as landscape) has been mentioned before so that's the next size down.

I find that you need the medium 800 x 533 if you want a portrait image to fit the screen on here.

Three very nice shots Alan, but particularly liking the lovely relaxed looking shot of your wife.

George.

George.

She wanted some pictures to send to her mam and friends.

The weather hasn't been too good here and indeed it rained while we were out so she's received dozens of pictures and has had none to sent back. So, she has a couple of funny ones to send now, her and the sarnie and her and the bear :D

It's curious you have to select a camera for the webcam software, then download, there must be subtle differences on how it is implemented.

Nope :ROFLMAO:Screenshot 2020-08-20 at 10.50.04.png
