The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

@snerkler

This is another view of it, love the little Skull below the seat on the frame.

The more I look at it the more I think it's a tricked up Bolt, or Bolt R-Spec. I don't think it's the c-spec, it's just the fork gators that confused me ;) It's nice whichever model it is. Looks a little like the Harley Street Bob.

Hi guys, been a long time since i was on here. Just wondering if you think Capture One 20 is worth it over Express. I have a 60% off code so it makes it about £50.
Present versions of express are crippled, but £50 for the full version is good.

I spent a few minutes out in the rain and fret with my A7 and Nippon Kogaku 50mm f2 + No.4 close up filter. Just for something to do :D

Dorset is a beautiful place, looking forward to your view of it

I seem to remember a conversation we had elsewhere about long lenses and muscle power :D (y)

I do own a decent Manfrotto tripod and a Gimbal head with Arca plate fitting - along with a Manfrotto Monopod - I just never use them, maybe I should sell them ?

I do like the bokeh I'm getting from the Nippon Kogaku Nikkor H Auto 50mm f2.

If anyone is interested in this old lens Uncle Ken has a nice page here.

I also have the similar f1.4. Uncle Ken again.

I have the similarly built 35mm f2.8 too but he doesn't seem to have a page for that. Here's someone else talking about it.

All these lenses are perfectly usable even if wide open they can't really compare to modern lenses. The main issue is vignetting at wide apertures but sometimes this adds to a picture. The f1.4 has a lot of glow at f1.4 but I think that's to be expected with a lens of this type and age. Oh, and minimum focus distance is usually 2ft, so nothing outstanding but a close up filter helps with flower shots and the like. As above.

I love the build and handling of these lenses, the only issue being that Nikon seems to want things to rotate differently to every other lens I have.

To save me the trouble of looking would anyone be willing to tell me how to check and update Sony lens firmware please?

It's a very good lens. Until I got the Voigtlander 50mm f2 it was the best 50mm-ish I'd ever had the pleasure to use. Now it's the best 50mm-ish AF lens I've ever had the pleasure to use.

I know my 50mm f2 Fuji is smaller, but looking forward to testing them against each other, as my signature now shows what I`m keeping.

Another couple of shots from my couple of hours spent with the local model flying club.
With the second image I thought it would be interesting to replace a plain blue sky with something more dramatic.
Both shot with the A7RIV and GM 100-400mm - just makes a change from my usual bird images!

Two great images, but totally love the second shot.

When I first tested the 55mm f1.8 I was shocked at its performance across the frame. Performance across the frame isn't everything but I do like the lens.

I`m looking forward to getting it now.

Will look forward to reading your views and looking at some pictures.

Oh, one thing. Years ago some people reported that this lens would rotate a bit when mounted on the camera, mine does on my A7. This is/was normal but for all I know they might not do this on newer bodies.

Decided to just get it, worth it for the colour editing alone over Express. Absolutely love Capture One though, 99% of the time, Auto on Exposure and Dynamic range with 20 for both clarity and structure (Punch) seems to suite me tastes.

You’ve done a very good job with the second, looks genuine. Those models are Uber realistic aren’t they?

Thanks for the heads up Alan.

Even more impressive are the scale model jet aircraft - the noise, smell and sound are so realistic.

DPR talking about the A7s III rolling shutter being quite good...

You can check the Sony website direct for any recent firmware updates for your lenses, attach the lens to your camera and select Menu>Setup and it should show you which version you're currently using on your camera and lens.

Pick your lens from that list and follow the instructions to update. :)
