The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Yeah I've got my camera set up great now, I love it. But the discussion in question was the menu system, I just don't think it's as easy to navigate and as clear as others. Doesn't bother me though, I just get on with whatever system is put in front of me (y)

I completely agree, the Sony Menu system is utter garbage.
Yes you can setup custom buttons but that’s really just a workaround, Sony have improved it slightly in the past and I am certain they will sort it out and touch UI functionality. :)

Yep the menus kinda sucks. But between the buttons, FN menu and my menus set up I never have get look at the menus ever again :P

Same here if I am being honest but it's still no excuse..... I am certain Sony will address it eventually, I guess their R&D budget has been invested in other area's and rightly so..... Sony are pretty much unbeatable right now. :)

Don't think it needs addressing as a priority IMO. I will never use the menus after the first two hours. And since now Sony let's us save the customisations to a memory card I'll probably never see them again. So what the point if having something I never see fixed. If a tree falls in forest....

Priority is the lack of usability during card writing, that just plain sucks. I'm actually going to contact Sony about it, once I figure out the correct path to do so ;)

Have you tried it. It's really not either (for me anyway) considering the range

Not tried it but i like small lenses and lenses that zoom internally.

Tried the 16-35 f4 and it was way too big - probably OK if you are coming from DSLR's but not when you come from Fuji.

My lens collection at the moment is Samyang 18mm + 35mm f2.8 and the cheapo Sony 28-78 - with this collection there is no weight penalty over my old Fuji kit :)

Let me know too. I'll contact them also, just to add some weight.

Just contact them via the online contact us page (didn't see Riz's post in time). Here's my email, bit melodramatic but sometimes it gets more attention ;)

"Hi,

I don't know if this is the best way to contact you but you don't have a product feedback or feature enhancement section to be able to contact you.

I have been a Nikon and Olympus user for many years and have just recently made the huge decision and investment to change over to Sony, and have bought the A7R IV. Overall I am very happy with the product but there is one thing that is very tiresome indeed and I would like to request that you address this please.

The point in question is that many functions of the camera are disabled whilst the camera is writing images to the card, and even with fast UHS-II cards this time can be considerable. Initially the Olympus OMD-EM1 Mark II had this same issue but Olympus fixed it via a firmware update and I am hoping that you can do the same. It really does spoil what is otherwise a fantastic experience with the camera.

Kind regards"

Can't bring you up to date with everyone but since day dot I've been wanting a one system do it all but certain FF lenses and camera combos are too heavy ( I have fibromyalgia) and hence why I also felt it necessary to have the m4/3 system. Whilst the m4/3 is truly superb (the EM1-II is one hell of a camera) it didn't deliver the IQ in certain scenarios, and doesn't give the same shallow DOF and pop of FF. The 61mp of the A7RIV allows me to get the 2 x crop of m4/3 and still giving a good MP count, and as such can use smaller lenses such as the 100-400mm vs the 200-600mm, or 150-600mm on the DSLRs. As a result the A7RIV gives me the one system do it all (y)

D850 went and replaced by the Z7, I prefer mirrorless form factor and live view shooting etc. Nothing wrong with the Z7 at all, lovely camera but doesn't allow a one system do it all.

I’ve noticed on the A7R IV that AF-C is noticeably faster than AF-S. AF-C acquires focus instantly whereas AF-S takes a brief moment, not slow but not instant like AF-C. I thought both modes were hybrid AF but based on this I’m guessing not. Is AF-C phase detect only, or is that hybrid and AF-S is contrast only?

AFS on Sony is crap, dont use it, Sony AFC is clever, does static and moving.

I have started using BBF since getting this camera tbh.

Anyone have the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 and care to comment or share some photos ?

Its still a bit big and heavy for me but is the lightest 'quality' zoom lens.

thanks

@rookies has it and rates it highly.
its a good lens.
also consider 24-70mm f4 for size
But it has quite bad distortion. I was considering one until I saw sample photos, I opted for the 28-70mm instead as I don't need the f4. It's cheaper, lighter and has less distortion. Also it's actually surprisingly sharp stopped down.

It has distortion I wouldn't call it bad. The FE28 you have is bad :P
And just like that lens its meant to be corrected in software, hence smaller optics :)
