The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

You must have missed them.

I suppose it's easy to lose a reputation but I don't think Tokina have lost theirs yet and even now I think anything they put their name to at least deserves a look.

Some images I took last week for a friend at his work. He was needing images for the website showing them working.
So I dropped by for an hour in the middle of dinner service, reasonably happy with them. But was kind of restricted in where I could stand/ shoot as they were busy and similarly the kitchen had quite a lot of distracting items/rubbish I couldn’t move.

Never done anything like this before though.
Love the third one! Nice set.

Really like #4.
How are you finding Sony?
Thanks. Yeah I really like it. AF acquisition is faster than the Nikon, although I would say with the dog running towards me there's about the same amount of missed shots. I definitely think I've done the right thing though, having one system instead of two is a plus and there is far more choice of native mount lenses.
Love them all but #4 & 5 are amazing. She's a stunner and I can't get enough of these!
Thanks very much :)

Probably because you are using Samyang ;)

I tried a bunch of different things with the Sammy 18mm, 45mm and 85mm, but only the images from the 85 really please me. I'll give the 45 a couple more outings, but it's likely to appear in the classifieds soon if I can't make it work for me.

Nice.
Great colours

Thanks Robert - yours too. :)

I'm especially impressed by the rodent shots (water vole?).

Which samyang lens are good? Might get one or two. Though about 18 2.8

If I was using Sony I'd get the 18 and maybe the 45 1.8 to start, they look very good for the money. The 35 1.4 and 85mm 1.4 look even better, though the 35 is pretty big and heavy

None of them are good in comparison to the other options that are available when budget is not a concern.

The 18 f/2.8 and the 45 f/1.8 are okay in terms of value for money. Being the newest lenses the autofocus is a little bit improved if you have the new firmware installed. Don’t expect the same level of a.f performance that you get with Sony glass though as you will be disappointed.

The 24mm f/2.8 is particularly poor in terms of a.f reliability, there also quite a lot of copies of this lens around which are decentered and never get sharp so prob best to buy from somewhere with a good returns policy. The 50 f1.4 and 35 f/1.4 are pretty poor in terms of a.f as well although have decent optics.

Ive read that, but I've tried the 18/24/35 in s*** lighting and none missed focused

From personal ownership, the 85 f1.4 is excellent, the 35 f2.8 and 18 f2.8 are good. I have a 45 f1.8 which is optically OK stopped down a little but a bit soft wide open. I also had a 50 f1.4, and that was very pleasing optically, though a little slower to focus (but much better focussing than the Sony 50 f1.8) and will probably get another at some stage.

Sounds like your 45 is a dud, quite a few people have decentered copies of these as well, Samyang reliability is non existent. I had to send back my first copy of the 45. The replacement is very sharp including wide open a.f performance after the firmware update is okay not oem good but bearable.

Think I'll give it a go.

I think the key with samyang is to ensure they are on latest firmware and don't have expectations of them performing like gm lenses.

I think the key is that the average non-pro really doesn't expect them to perform like GM lenses, common sense would tell you this before ever using them. But I know I'd rather have 4-5 Samyang primes than one GM prime. They seem like good fun lenses for casual shooting, which is what most of us do most of the time
