The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

The look of resignation - why can't I get into that cabinet (see how big it is - it occupies the whole wall of the house) :D:D:D

Hehe :D
I had to get the firmware updated on both bodies so thought I would take a few snaps to ensure they still worked lol :)

The Sony Zeiss 55mm f1.8 is a great little lens.

Interestingly I had to use AF-C with Eye-AF at 10fps to get some keepers when looking at the eye close up.
AF-S would occasionally wouldn’t give me sharp eye shots when using Eye-AF, I guess it’s down to quick and erratic movements.

The biggest advantage of the Zeiss is it's CA control, it has VERY little of it, it reminds me of how good the Canon 35L mk2 does in a lot of respect.

I can't comment how the Sigma focuses with the native mount but in terms of IQ, the Sigma does it just fine, I have used mine for 4-5 seasons in weddings and have no complaints, it is one of the best 50mm there is, so all of the sudden if I say the Sigma is bad would be wrong as it has produce images like this

But the Zeiss is better by a fraction though....at double the cost.

Very nice Ray.

Bought some Godox today, it's still charging but built quality wise this is impressive. The charger too is well made with similar blinking lights to the Sony charger which sells for £85 !!!

I want an off camera flash eventually, what sort of price does this run with the controller?[/QUOTE]

just watch out for the hot shoe mount as that is only bit that really lets the build quality down spares can be bought from ebay ;)

Flash is £161, trigger is £60.

This is utter peanuts coming from the prices of 600EX-RT….

Cool, let me know if it's easy to use as I've not had lighting before and only used constant light set ups for product photos etc.

Not half some of the guys I know carry spare hotshoes around with them. Was talking to a guy a couple of weeks ago who said he swapped the hotshoes out 3 times at one wedding. Twice for himself and once for his second. :D

The godox stuff is lovely, had a load with the Nikon, good thing is, I just needed to buy a single Sony flash. Everything else just works.

What was he doing to it?!

Guest banged banged into it and then he hit the flash on a doorway or something like that. His second got a whack during the first dance.

The godox stuff is great by the way but the hotshoe for Sony is very suspect. The slightest knock will rip it off.

Looks like its 4 screws and 1 cable clip and £10….might get a spare :D

The Godox page to update the firmware is a bit confusing. G1 and G2, and I can't seem to find the Mac OS version?

Is it windows only?

Batis 25, Sony Distagon 35 (which I absolutely adore), Zeiss 55 and Batis 85.

Well that's pretty split 50/50 with the distagon vs 35 art.... The Zeiss 55 I think is the sensible option too.

Going to buy a TT350 which can act as master too I think for the 685's I already have which will be fine for OCF.

the 50mm f1.8 is only £180 new - so its not a bad shout and shouldn't be overlooked if you won't be using it much.

If I keep Sony I think I'll pick one up. It's cheaper, has softer corners wide open and slower noisier AF than the 55mm but sharpness is there apparently. A9 users say the AF isn't too bad on that body. Worth a punt, at least it doesn't have the onion bokeh of the 55mm.

The only negative I've found with the Good flashed is that they are quite stiff and so there is movement on the hotshoe. How do the shoes fail, snap off?

I read a load of stuff about the Sony and decentering. Got one anyway and it’s bang on. I love it. Renders beautifully IMO. Fast, accurate and solid.

There's a secondhand one that I asked about yesterday. Their general tests don't of course check for decentering but the return policy is sound, I am tempted. I still have a bit of a Sigma stigma..

Why the Batis over the G Master?

yeah theres some of that in the bokeh. unless its plain awful, bokeh is subjective in my opinion and just down to what you like. if you can get on with the 50mm 1.8 and save a tenth of the price than happy days all round.

she's got the look by Jonathan Howes, on Flickr

its also got some of that swirly bokeh going on. but i quite dig that at times.

If you don't look for the decentering you shouldn't find it. My advice, don't look! Once I saw it and saw it in other people's lenses I wasn't happy paying that much money for it (also horrible purple CA), was a bit gutted tbh. Nice smooth out of focus areas and good caf though.

Sigma af variation doesn't apply on e mount.

Really seems to be a mixed bag of opinions. CA is a bit of a pain but assume it's easily corrected, is it that bad? The rendering and AF are the big plus points which I'm tempted to have a gamble on.

I will admit to being very interested in the new Batis 40mm. The FOV really appeals and I do like the look the Batis’s I have. I don’t shoot enough at 24mm to justify the 24GM.

Agreed. I think it’s a lens to try for yourself.

I don’t love the Zeiss 55. It’s very good and extremely competent but I find it a little cold.

That's the downside with Godox, it's Windows only!

You can always use one those virtual machines or Bootcamp...I'm too thick for that so I annoy one of my friends borrowing his laptop every time I have to upgrade.

Taken on the Sony? If so colours look better
