The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

C2 and the 3rd one down is called flexible spot m. Is that considered just spot? The box on the sceend seems a tad big for spot.

You can change the size of it but turning the scroll wheel. It get's smaller but not a dot.

I tried scrolling the wheel but the size never changed. I'm basically trying to create a spot focus button that I can use while the main focus option is in continuous focus. So I can switch from continuous to a fixed focus quickly. Thanks for the advice btw

you mean SINGLE shot focus?

You're on centre focus if the box won't change size, flexible spot is spot, sizes are S / M / L.

Not sure what you're trying to achieve, doesnt really make sense. Do you want to switch from AFC to AFS via custom button? Then set it up in your custom buttons.

Sorry I don't know, not a short cut. I know you can assign a button to shoot with a type of focus methods in terms of focus points. You should be able to assign a button to change focus mode select but it won't be 1 press.

What @twist said.

I want to be able to switch quickly from wide continuous with eye af to either single shot or continuous spot focus. Mainly because if I'm trying to change the composition of a shot the af sometimes decides focus on something else. Say if eye af isn't available or a person turns their head away so it can't find a face. That kind of thing

Set eye AF to one C button and leave the camera in wide or flexible spot mode.

I am struggling with this too.

C2 is focus mode select
C1 flips to spot focus (pre-assigned to about 1/3 of the way in from the top right corner)

It flips between basically the main 693 points and let the camera decide to spot (what I decide).

Mix in Back button focus on AF-On and AEL is eye-AF.

The problem is if I go to single point and then move the focus point, C2 gets locked out for some reason.

Yeah I know what your saying. I'll keep trying stuff.

Advice/experiences on a shoulder type strap please. Up till now I've been using a Black Rapid with my A7Riii and 100-400GM attached to an Arca Swiss plate on the lens foot but I'm looking for an alternative.
Ideally I'd like to leave all or part of my Arca plate available for mounting quickly onto a monopod or tripod while in the field, the Black Rapid, while being an excellent strap takes that option away. I'm looking for a strap that I can anchor one end to the plate and the other to the camera body strap lug.

So action shots - what settings are people using? Apart from being in CAF what other settings - Spot, flexible spot etc?

So AFC with flexi spot for equestrian? This will take some practice lol

One thing I noticed today with my camera using live view and flex spot is that the box is black and I couldn't see it for s*** when I was moving it around trying to focus on things. Can we change the colour of it? [emoji16]
