Hmmm, those lenses aren't small, the 35 on the Sony is the Zeiss 1.4.
Not a fair comparison. We all know even the 16-35/2.8GM is same size as that f4. It's a DSLR design Vs. mirrorless design where mirrorless benefits the most in terms of size.

They have a couple UWAs on the road map. Lets wait and see how they turn out.
Sure ok but who is buying into this system thinking they'll be adapting huge lens for ever.Bit slow tonight? These are current option comparisons, not the future..... Unless you have a time machine.

The same people Nikon are selling to saying wahoo you can use all your old lenses and don't have to buy new if you don't want to. They're making a big thing about it.
You'll be waiting another 4 years for the next one.
Quick question. Anybody here used the sigma mount change service.......looking at the a7riii and I have a 35/85 f1.4 art
Have you had quotes? Expensive.
I think it’s a couple of hundred pounds for service/mount change etc but I’ve not had a quote.
All theoretical at the mo as the D800 was due an upgrade - was waiting for the mirrorless announcement and was very underwhelmed. Started looking at the a7riii and this is the camera Nikon should have made.

Sensible option, upgrade to an 850. Chop the 800 in and add £1400 for a grey version which will tie you over till Nikon get it right at a second time of asking. But if money isn’t an issue...
Upgrade into redundancy...... seen whats happened to Sony A mount lately?![]()
Don’t fancy buying into a square, horrible-feeling, expensive lens, system [emoji13]

Hi, I am wondering why Nikon chose this type of mount, making the bodies and the lenses big.I was waiting for the mirrorless announcement and was very underwhelmed.

Nikon developpers are not amateurs. -
Could have something to do with future, higher resolution sensors.
With 60 or 80 MP "FF" sensors, the Z mount might work better ...
Are the lenses expensive? Seem to be priced very similar to Nikon but they won't be redundant or have to be used with a clunky adapter in the near future.![]()
Sony GM lenses are marketed at 100MP+.
There’s no denying Nikon have got a lot wrong in recent years, but they’ll bounce back, certainly not ready to do a ‘Kodak’!
Sure, but maybe corner performance is easier to achieve. I do not know, am speculating.MP have nothing to do with mount size as the sensor size doesnt increase..... again, Sony GM lenses are marketed at 100MP+.
just like nikon z7 marketed to shoot 9fps?
They at least got the size rightTBF they've done a lot well to. This is their first gen FF MILC, I think its pretty great for a 1st attempt..... couldve been a lot worse. Sonys 1st attempt wasn't anything amazing.
Sure, but maybe corner performance is easier to achieve. I do not know, am speculating.
But I expect some optical engineers or physicists will answer this soon. Maybe the ZEISS people will say something when they bring out Z mount lenses.

I,that's correct lolYou be thinking of Kodiak not Kodak![]()
The science chap on DPReview, Rishi, said that the Z cameras have the best video AF of anything so far, so that is something to achieve on the first attempt.
Now the AF whilst taking pics...![]()

And seemingly somewhere for Sony to improve on.Neat for video folk

Others seem to have had an hour or two with the cameras at events whilst DPReview seem to have had the cameras longer. I think I'll go with him until proved wrong.I used to think he was reliable, I am having my doubts.
I haven't read everything but don't they say AF is very good for stills also and its very sticky? While everyone else says its bad...
