The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

On the verge.....

Waiting for Twist and Ohms definitive review......

Just buy it. Return it if it’s not for you - that’s why we have distance selling regs, after all.

@twist - I rarely used my 85, that’s the thing. Carrying it around just felt like unnecessary space/weight that could be taken by something else. Unless I can find a cheapish 70-200/70-300 FE I’ll probably temporarily just adapt something on the Canon side. Got better things to spend my money on atm! :P

I've just been out for a quick lunchtime walk with my A7 and new (to me) Nikon 20/3.5 I'm really happy with the output from the Nikon, along with its' close focus ability.

I am not updating mine….

Understandable, I was hoping for more changes than just the ones listed so figured it was worth the gamble (plus I'd rather it broke now than a year from now).

Question for you though, on your FE 50mm f/1.4, how noisy is it? I've got one here, the focus motor is fairly quiet but the aperture blades are a bit noisy. Which seems not quite right...

I was speaking to Wilkinsons. They currently have a £100 trade in bonus on the A73, but apparently this effectively is a Sony discount promotion of £100, so if you go through the ordering process this £100 can be automatically deducted (without having to do a trade-in) leaving the final price at £1899. The 1/2 price MC-11 and 3 year warranty still stand. All available until the end of April.
Also, for those on a budget, there is a £50 discount on the 50mm f1.8, so it now costs just £129! ... also until the end of April as I understand it.

Yup, they never asked me for a part ex when using the voucher.

So... £2000
-100 "pex"
-100 MC11 (200 value)
-80 3yr extended warranty
------------
Effectively £1720

From holding my eye up to the EVF I can hear the AF noises, but I can't hear aperture blades when I use the manual aperture ring above the ribbed clicking of the ring itself. If I put my ear closer to the lens I can here a little metallic noise

that's not really why we have distance selling regs

Yeah I adapt a canon 100-300mm which i got for £20 :D
Its reasonably sharp and rather contrasty too

Not bad, that!

As for DSR - as you’re not in face to face contact with the retailer, and as such unable to check/demo/inspect the item you’re purchasing, you have a right of return once you’ve inspected said items. Don’t see what the issue is, there. :)

Parcelforce delivered the camera 30 minutes ago. UPS arrived at 9 am just as I was doing the school run, luckily they dropped the lens at one of their Access Points near my house a few minutes ago and so I :exit: went to pick it up.
More arriving tomorrow :D

I need to get an extra SD card and a screen protector any recommendations, please?

I posted a screen protector a couple pages ago I think.

It's a little noisier than the video, the focusing noise while not quiet wouldn't really bother me but I can't recall having noisy aperture blades before.

Seems less than ideal for such an expensive lens.

Nice :D
I am sure the Sony A9 isnt too far behind in real-world situations.
Surely the one of the advantages of the EVF - WYSIWYG is that you don't over/under expose too much.

Doesn't matter, extra DR is always welcome. I use as much as I can get, imagine a dark room with blinds open or a window, you can expose for shadow or highlight then push either way in post to recover. Or outside on a sunny day in the shade, you can expose for sky and push the shadows in post. You can paint in the light in shadows. Boosts creative options.

I agree...... even if you don't need it, its good to have on the days you do! :D
More is better than less :)

Well if possible its better to try out and then buy when you are kinda sure you want something. The issue with simply buying stuff and returning it is that it does not come for free. It adds cost to the dealer which is then later pushed back on to us in form of increased prices. So best not to abuse a certain system just because it exists.
Places like amazon will simply suspend your account if you return too many things :D

It’s not louder than any of my Canon or Fuji lenses.

Yep, at some point in the future I might give the A73 a try, but the A7R3 - not for me!
a try? you did already and did not like it, It wont change in the future lol wait for mk4 and maybe it will change to suit your needs :)

Ups, I might have missed that post with all the talking on cars, watches, speakers.... :)

I hope they didn't literally DROP the lens...

Its a GM lens. You can drop it from the Shard and it would make a dent on the road

I'm pretty sure about that Jonney, it really is a beats of a lens, but coming from a Nikon, not much different :p

so apparently the striping can be dependent on lens used. Maybe a good thing then I changed to the Batis 85 lol

certainly makes for a good reason, but so far I haven't noticed it with FE85. If and when do I might consider the same.
