Yup It's crappy and Sony has said nowt, been around for weeks now.
No it doesn't. Not on my specific cameraDunno what your loling about, your a9 does it.
Then why are you getting the camera then? Ffs I don't understand u.Weeks? It's been present for years.
Yes it does, you’ve just not experienced it. However, the artefacts seem to be more exaggerated in the A7iii for some reason. No it doesn't. Not on my specific camera
Really! can't believe that some camera owners will defend their camera/brand when problems are identified!Just found the DPR page with this discussion. I can't believe there's so many people that are 'defending' it saying that there are software programs to 'mask' the problem. If I was the kind of person that shot a lot of backlit shots I'd be pretty p****d off if I'd dropped £2k on a camera and then had to use a software program to 'cover up' image flaws![]()

No... the a73 hasn't been around for years. I was being specific..... and yes I know it' pdaf related etc with ospdaf. I raised it on this thread ages ago.
I'm aware but my point/question was why would Sony rush out for a fix on the A73 when it's been present on other A series cameras and there's been minimal complaints about it to date?
What's changed that now demands they act?
The a73 is worse than other cameras, it's also in much higher demand, time for them to act.... if enough people point out the issue they will have to.
that's it..
i'm moving to olympus
i've ordered the film
That's it I am going to D850
And if they did act would it all be camera recalls or it be a software patch?
I'm confused, do you or don' you have these cameras
I'm not a fortune teller Andrew
I have the new 70-200 Nikon now so GAS has been plugged for the time being![]()

In my case I can return it or claim the item is faulty and unsuitable within years of ownership if they don't deal with it.

It does seem to be a bit more obvious when it occurs on the A73 and I hope they provide a solution but I think it's far from a forgone conclusion that they will do something about it.
Isn't that a bit underhanded to buy something knowing of an issue, use it regardless then claim it's a valid justification for returning it? If you're aware of it and it's a problem for you, just don't buy it and save everyone the time and trouble.
I’ve got a lovely OM1 and a couple of rolls of film I keep meaning to get out and use. Maybe when the weather improves I’ll finally get out and use itthat's it..

Depends. Looking at the issue it’s likely a phenomenon created by the physical design of the sensor, if that’s the case they won’t be able to fix it. They could in theory release a firmware update so that the software gets rid of the stripes similar to what people are doing with photoshop and the like. However this would mean applying it to all photos and potentially introducing other artefacts. If it is the fundamental design of the sensor they’ll probably be better off not fixing it but releasing a one click PP fix to use for those few pics that are affected. And if they did act would it all be camera recalls or it be a software patch?
Nooooooo
Exactly. Don't understand twist. It does seem to be a bit more obvious when it occurs on the A73 and I hope they provide a solution but I think it's far from a forgone conclusion that they will do something about it.

I am trying to recreate it right now and discovered 3 things,
1 - I don't think I have to worry about it because with a flash head on the A73, it doesn't trigger OCF….
2 - I can only set off OCF using a Yongnuo trigger. I tried it with a 600EXRT as a trigger or a Yongnuo flash as a trigger. OCF don't go off.
3 - I can't find any artefacts in any of these.
But seeing I can't use it the way I want to, not with my existing flashes….I wouldn't need to worry about this, i think.

Having owned the Sony CZ 85/1.4 on A mount it is a great lens, very sharp from wide open, and great bokeh.I am aiming to have my core prime set up for the Sony hopefully by year end.
35/1.4, 50/1.4, 85/1.4 ?????
I am hoping Sony make a Sony Zeiss 85/1.4 but I hardly doubt it with the G-Master out, it’ll be competing against each other. I doubt Zeiss themselves will do one either with the Batis 85/1.8 out. And then there is the 85/1.8………..
Just thinking out loud here, going to disregard the Batis as if I am spending more from the Sony…I might as well go all the way to the G-Master. They are all sharp, they all focus great, size isn’t a concern…..£1k more ????
Or just get the Sony and upgrade when the time comes, did that with the Canon 85/1.8 too….

Not sure what the Sigma is like, but the Sigma 50/1.4 I had was very sharp, but the colours were off.. almost a green tinge.
Anyone know what the Sigmas are like now?
Have to say, the trusty old Minolta 85/1.4 hold it's own still, not quite as sharp wide open as the Sony CZ, but bokeh I think is more pleasing, at least to me.
I can't get my head around £1.5k for a prime lens, I thought £800 was a lot for the Sony.
