do people really shoot at 51200?

Nonsense!!

its probably more useful to compare them at more sensible high ISO range 6400-12800
what the point if no shoots at such extremes!
(p.s. I haven't compared them myself and don't know or care about the results but just commenting on the comparison itself)

It’s been given as a freebie on pre-orders so every chance they can apply whatever conditions they wish.
Don't you get a raw processor with it?
I looked a coupe of days ago and DNG didn't have it but actually there seems to be a known problem with the latest DNG not loading so I kept my older version.
There’s no CD in the box if that’s what you mean?

You should be able to download the Sony Image Edge software from sony.co.uk following registration under "downloads".
Interestingly, the software not only supports both the A7R III and A7 III but has given them more functionality than the Sony A9.
Strange choices from Sony considering their Sony A9 is supposed to be a high-profile professional product. Lets home Sony sort this out including more firmware updates to improve the A9![]()
the don't ship the CD any more all software can be found on sony website
But page for A7III current says - "Support information for the ILCE-7M3 is coming soon!"
So I suppose you are kinda stuck![]()
serves you right for buying it so early.send it to me,i like painI shot with 3 cameras today, having to use Sony's own software is a pain in the butt for workflow.

Ok, just done the first shoot with it. AF is utterly ridiculous, it's like 95% hit rate and when it hits, it REALLY hit.
Colours (jpeg/standard profile) is a bit on the magenta / red tint space.

Do lenses affect noise?Yes interesting if you need to shoot that high.
You can compare high ISO test chart images all day long (I do it sometimes too), however you have to keep in mind they are shot in a controlled studio environment with two different lenses..... It would be interesting to know what lenses were used to shoot test charts.
That aside, the Sony A9 offers way more than just IQ, as I have said previously, the IQ is on par / slightly better than the original A7 / A7 II which was always good enough for me.

The accuracy is awesome on mirrorless. What lens did you use on that pic?
These A7iii cameras will definitely make excellent portrait and wedding cameras but I definitely need the A9, so I need to start selling off all sorts of s***.
Wonder if the wife would notice half the kitchen appliances and furniture has just disappeared![]()
I wouldn’t have thought so in a controlled environment like that, ISOs are consistent, and they’re on a tripod so shutter is altered to give the same exposure, ie same amount of light hitting the sensor. I don’t know if those studio shots are shot wide open or not, but it wouldn’t matter as the overall exposure, and importantly ISO is the same.Fair point but say if the Sony A9 had a f1.8 lens attached and the Nikon D750 had a f1.2 lens attached, wouldn't that make any difference.
You'll have to excuse my lack of thinking at the moment, got both my kids screaming around melol
But you’ll have the potential banding issue with the A9 in your indoor arenasThese A7iii cameras will definitely make excellent portrait and wedding cameras but I definitely need the A9, so I need to start selling off all sorts of s***.

Ahh ok.... regarding the banding, just shoot at a shutter speed which avoids the banding?I wouldn’t have thought so in a controlled environment like that, ISOs are consistent, and they’re on a tripod so shutter is altered to give the same exposure, ie same amount of light hitting the sensor. So choose A9 get banding, just A7iii get dubious low light CAF. Stick with D750 get neither of the above issues!
Round and round....
A good summary of the Sony A9 banding scenario....

Err not really. Shutter speed doesn't change the scan time, hence why you are more prone to banding with electronic shutters. The A9's scan time is much quicker and not at the exact frequency of UK lighting compared to other electronic shutters, but it's still a potential issue. The worst I've seen is on the Jarid Polin video, that's enough for me not to shoot sports in stadiums like that with an A9, if I did that kind of shooting that isAhh ok.... regarding the banding, just shoot at a shutter speed which avoids the banding?![]()
Yep, that sums it up. Or get a D850 with better AF than the D750, higher res for cropping, higher buffer and higher fps, especially with the battery gripSo choose A9 get banding, just A7iii get dubious low light CAF. Stick with D750 get neither of the above issues!

Some valid points though.![]()
I think this has been discussed before, but if your shooting at 20 fps not every shot will see the banding, it’s a point worth investigating before you buy though.worst I've seen is on the Jarid Polin video, that's enough for me not to shoot sports in stadiums like that with an A9, if I did that kind of shooting that is![]()

Very true, without trying it I don't know if you shoot a series of 20 and it is affected whether all 20 shots will see banding, or just 1 or 2. If it's the latter then the really really small issue becomes even smallerI think this has been discussed before, but if your shooting at 20 fps not every shot will see the banding, it’s a point worth investigating before you buy though.![]()
