The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I think the light hearted banter is a bit borderline some times, and what the hell is a Jabroni, ( and I don't have a problem just saying.)
I've no idea what a Jabroni is lol. One of the guys got perma banned from another forum for calling someone it [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

I believe it originated from wrestling lol

Its a great lens, I often take mine out of its cabinet, give a stroke, wipe and pop it back inside. :D lol

In that case maybe I should buy it anyway, even if I don’t get an A7.

What’s the 28-70 kit lens like?

The Sony FE 70-200mm f2.8 G Master is a typical pro-level 70-200mm, its big and heavy but that's to be expected.
Sony have released quite of few firmware upgrades for it so its good they are improving its abilities.
It's not a cheap lens but I am sure it won't let you down or leave you feeling disappointed in the sharpness & IQ department.

The Sony FE 28-70mm lens is quite good for the money, its not quite as sharp across the frame compared to the Sony Zeiss 24-70mm f4.
If you can pick one up around the £200-250 mark it's worth considering if you don't want to splash out on the more expensive native versions.

the 28-70mm is probably the best kit lens i have used but its also the most expensive. Its light, fast focussing, silent and OSS works surprisingly well. its a great travel lens.
There is a couple in sales for £175 but harrisons has one for £160 :) (please buy it before my GAS makes me buy it :P )

The 70-200 is no bigger or heavier than my Nikon one - actually a tad lighter I think, but only by grams!

The 28-70 is £200 extra as a kit on the A7III. Im not sure though as ideally the 28/50 combo would be my first choice but if I do go for the A7 it might not be affordable choice!!

Saying that I do not shoot wide that often so might just get the 28-70 and then a 50 at some point!

I love the focus AF-hold buttons on the G Master lenses, I map mine to Eye-AF and it's great :D

To be fair to the classifieds advertisers, one of the 28-70's was mint as new and looked in far better condition than the Harrisons one (classed as good, not very good, not excellent). On top of that , knowing the seller as I do he would have lowered the price :D

I will check out the 28-70 on friday along with what A7s they have!

I only want this lens till tamron release their 28-75mm/2.8. So I am after bit of a bargain since I will probably sell it back anyway. I didn't want to be too cheeky with lowball offers :D

TBH I'd rather Nikon hurry up and get something released, it would save me a lot of money ;)

I probably will when the price comes down and there's more used lenses around. You never know though, by the time that happens Nikon might have released something.

A9 doesn't interest me tbh, my next 'upgrade' will be for a high res body. I would like to downsize and a high res body would allow me to use a lighter 100-400mm type lens and still give me the same effective reach as my 150-600mm on the D750. There's no doubt that as much as I love my Olly in an ideal world I'd love a FF body for travel, all this combined is the only reason I've even contemplated the A7 series. At the moment it's outside my reach price wise anyway so it's not something that I'm going to be able to do, just been considering long term options (y)
Price to come down? To a fiver? Your getting an awful lot for 2k

I agree, its great value at £1999, also most places are throwing in free 3 years extended warranty if you ask, that adds even greater value especially as you can transfer ownership/warranty to the next owner (good for resale).
Do Nikon and Canon still lock down their warranty to the first original owners? :D

I keep thinking I should use mine.

It may be a humble thing but do think it's the best kit type lens I've had.

You guys shouldn't be convincing people to buy Sony, enough of that happens on it's own - we need balance and competition...

A7RII is better than A9, D850, D5 and 1DXII

It got 90% on dpreview, the others got 89%

FWIW in a comment on the DPR forums the other day, one of the staff noted that part of their score is based on resolution and that even if everything else were identical, the A7R series will always score higher because it has more megapixels

uh oh... Im sure Brian Smith also said there is no AA.

What is it with these insanely awful videos? If Sony gave them bad info, call Sony out for it, no need to make a 10 minute video trying to 'call them out' because they were given bad information.

But does it have an AA?
