The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

But they said they be making e mount lenses from the ground up else if they simply slapped on a built-in mc 11.they would have released e mount lenses ages ago

Perhaps - it depends on how long this lens has been in development.
The options of a 'native' FE version may have been something that was an added requirement by management to the designers part way through development (it's the sort of thing that usually happens with software, but i wouln't be surprised if it happens elsewhere as well!).

Other 'true' native FE lenses may be on the way separately.

Hopefully we'll know soon.

Does anyone know if when buying a used Sony camera Sony still honour the recall issues?
Thinking of going for a second hand a9 and right now there's a recall for the hotshoe

Apparently there will 9 lenses released from 14mm to 135mm according to SAR.
Again sound like sigma art primes with adapters permanently stuck on... But I guess we'll find out soon

It does indeed, not really sure what the point is then, might as well pickup an adapter and a much cheaper used Canon mount...

Although to add:

There is some hint that some of these ART lenses MIGHT be newly designed for Sony FE. These would be the 35mm, 14mm and 24-70 f/2.8 zoom lens!

35 and 14 would be good but the Sigma Art 24-70 seems to have very mixed reviews on DSLR so I'm not sure I'd be rushing at that.

Love you old sig ;)

I’ve bought and sold a few Sony bodies with extended warranties, I just transferred ownership to the next owner.
Are you able to get the original owner to do this?

No extended warranty on the one I have seen....Is Sony's warranty transferable?

Yes I believe it is but it needs to be done via the original owner.
Best advice would be to contact Sony Customer Service.

14mm is a focal length that could potentially benefit from making it specifically for mirrorless.

Anyway we'll wait and see what comes out of sigma...

If canikon start with a brand new mount. It's also game set match for Sony and that I'm worried about. Need competitions and reasons for some of you lot to chop and change every week hehe

On a serious note. Would anyone be interested in doing a photo walk together in london? Around summer time.

I think a new mount will be the case. But it’s vital they release proper glass from the off. Sony’s day 1 e mount glass was underwhelming to say the least. Hopefully canikon won’t make the same mistake.

Who knows what’s around the corner. But for the good of the industry Sony need canikon to remain big players. As do Sony shooters. They could have another “slip up” with our data. If that happens again the camera division could be cancelled overnight. Then you’d all have to go and shoot Fuji.

Would love to. I've wanted a trip to London for years to do the museums and galleries etc but getting free time is very difficult.

Could do a walk in Saltburn :D

The size of that 85mm lol

The size of all of them! LOL
The 35mm was quite well sized (imo) with the MC-11, not any worse than say a 24-70, 24mm should be pretty much the same, can't imagine the 50mm would be nice to hold either!!!!

Appears to be confirmed that the "FE" Art lenses are just DSLR lenses with a permanent adaptor (14mm and 35mm included) - leaked pics here

Surprise surprise. It's the only way they could ever release that many at a time.

Canikon will also go adapted till completely native.... except sensor af tech is now where it needs to be to make that option viable. All the mirrorless companies did all the r&d for them.... pretty clever.

If true - Dreadful. IMO.

I did hope that Sigma were going to do new designs but feared they'd do this.

I think it was a given when they said they'd release that many lenses that fast. They don't even release their bread and butter mount lenses that quickly. It was pretty much impossible to design and manufacture that quickly, not even the big boys can do that.

Mirrorless has evf and no blackout. Huge advantages. The thing is. How can you physically design a 1.4 lens to be tiny? Impossible
As I was saying the new canon 85mm/1.4 L is the same size as 85mm GM. So Sony still has the ~25mm-ish flange distance advantage which is completely lost with this.

True but just whacking an adapter on an bonding it to a body is a bit lazy isn't it. They should have completely redesigned the lenses.

EVF - true, great on newer models and X-T2 but I'm not a huge fan on A7 + a7ii

I have a theory, Sigma has always backed Canikon, maybe they aren't convinced by Sony FE yet and are waiting to see what Canikon do mount wise. Developing so many lenses means they have to be in it for the long haul.
