The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Nice shots, but is there something here special about the A9? (may be that's not what you are trying to show... just wondering if I missed something?)
Only some that show good shadow recovery for dynamic range.

I have one low light shot I mention before that I would will post soon. It's more to just share pics of my recent travel

Don't you think the a7rii would've been the choice for all those shots?

Some folks here been having difficulty with A7RII in terms of tracking?

Used it recently with my new FE85/1.8 (@f2), samples below:

one more because I clipped the parachute (I still like the above composition because the sun is spot bang in middle)

it may be no D500, but certainly not slow and/or terrible with the right lenses.

Picture wise yes but usability maybe not as the battery life was far better on the A9 and the duel memory card slot was vital for me. why? because i actually forgot to bring my spare sd cards! i only had two with me for the whole trip lol but yes the A7r2 otherwise would have been great to use also.

end of the day the A7 series camera for me offer the best travel camera setup ever! nothing beats it IMO

Have you not purchased the Sony G Master "Pocket" yet Jonney? I've bought two (one for each leg) so I can keep both a spare SD card and a battery on my person and then manage with only a single card slot ;0)

Also what's with all the issue with shooting FE85/1.8 into the sun? I had no flaring issues with mine... (as shown above)
and below...
Stitched 6 shots from FE85/1.8 in LR6

hehe.

A9 is overkill for travel but right tool for sports and weddings.

Its more versatile then a 1dx2 and D5 IMO

That's the camera I'm holding out for. Don't need 20fps but some of the other whistles will be nice.

A lens purchase is approaching though. :)
Oooo which lens?
I am looking forwards to the A7III also, how much of the A9 features get trickled down to the A7 series remains to be seen.

I have a Sony RX100 III for a truly portable experience .... a proper pocket camera with better IQ than the smartphone segments. :D

You might want to try the Panasonic DMC-CM1;)
I had it for a couple years and the camera was awesome but didn't use it enough so sold it.

An A9 may be overkill but if you can afford it... Why Not :D plus as you point out it's a flexible camera / system :D

TBH I'd buy one if I wasn't so tight.

A focus joystick and bigger battery would probably be enough for many people.

Here are some pics all taken on the A9 with assorted bunch of primes(samyang 14mm, 24 Batis, 55mm zeiss, 85mm batis)

moments after taking this shot below and filming the scene using my go pro a random bloke approached me and pointed my go pro down and told me no pics or video allowed. Basically there is an area in copenhagen that is independent from the Government > http://www.visitcopenhagen.com/copenhagen/culture/alternative-christiania weed/other assorted drugs are legal there and i was entering a zone with merchants selling them lol.

Nice shots Jonney. That guy in he red jacket is doing the thriller dance too

I guess the main point is that the sensor itself in the A9 isn't a million miles different from what's already in use in the A7/A7ii. The main selling points of the A9 are its' AF improvements, buffer and fps so the only way to tell it apart in an online situation is to shoot very fast action that 'may' not be possible with an A7 series body.

The shadow recovery etc is already comparable with existing A7 series bodies so walkabout holiday/street pictures aren't going to be any different.

This is a grab shot I took on my way in to work this morning to test the Samyang 14/2.8 I've just bought to show a similar output.

Yea but many haters where saying the Dr is crap on the A9 lol

On the subject of tracking, I was able to track fast moving planes at Cleethorpes Airshow using my original Sony A7 and the FE 70-200mm f4 lens, I had very little issues tracking with minimal out of focus shots.... (see samples)

Most of the images are cropped...

It all comes down to individual technique and how much work your willing to put into getting that right shot, the camera is a tool and some are faster/slower than others, as soon as the tool starts impeding your work you need to consider other bodies.
You can track well the A7 bodies but the Sony A9 does it way better and easier.... the Sony A9 is a tool which gets the job done with minimal fuss or user input which saves time... perhaps no £4499 worth of time though lol :D

Is it? I don't think they were saying it was crap, just that it wasn't as good as the Sony A7RII or perhaps the Nikon D750........
I have rarely found a problem with lack of DR in Sony files including my original Sony A7.

When do you need 10-15 stops worth of DR???

Waiting to get a price back on the zeiss 35mm f1.4

Although tempted at trying the sigma 35 again.

A portrait orientation crop from a landscape one.

A7 and 55mm f1.7 again.

Remember that Sony is offering £125 cash back on the 35mm f1.4 at the moment but this ends in 2 days time... (3rd Sept 17).

I keep having thoughts of buying the Sony 35mm f2.8 and 55mm f1.8 lenses again for a lighter option and to take advantage of the cash back offer.
The bokeh from the faster primes is lush so I can see why your wanting the 1.4 version.

I am going to hold out for a GM versions of the 55mm and 135mm. :D
