The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I take a lot of photos you be surprise but I just don't share my work as much as you guys do

x2 for FL and aperture effect.

Just to add, i had the Oly e-m10 and was pleasantly surprised by the ISO performance. It was far better than my previous D7000 and D7100.

That's quite a glowing reference.

I had the x pro 1 then the xt-1, changed to the A7r and never looked back, for me much better than the Fuji. I also ran the D700 with the Fuji and A7r, but sold it when I bought the A7R2, which I still have and am very happy with the brilliant image quality, and the ability to crop is amazing.

BUT ............ I did have to re-buy into Nikon, I just missed the feel of that camera and the faith that I have that I will always get the shot when I was nervous of missing focus due to speed on the sony. I now use both about equally, but the Nikon is used more when I don't have to carry it around the mountains.

So having sold all my Nikon gear, I am back to having a D800, 70-200 vr2, sigma 35mm art and 85mm 1.4, just in case.

Another 24-70 would be nice :)

Anyone here with the Sony 50mm 1.8 I e been reading up on it on how it fair with the 55mm but it about £300 cheaper

Rookie for the money id get the 70-300 FE rather than the 70-200....

Af looks like it sucks. Dc motor, it will rack. Get what you pay for. I'd look for a used zeiss near 500 quid... still 500 quid though.

Yup that what I had my eye in as it such a sharp lens.

That's sorted. Thanks guys

The 55mm is sharp across the frame but maybe sharpness is over rated? I have 50mm legacy lens shots that are so sharp on screen I have to wear gloves to swipe to the next shot.

Having said all that it is a nice feeling to have such a nice lens :D

But on a a7rii [emoji6]

Doesn't mean the A7II can't also do heavy cropping, have a look at my Cleethorpes Airshow photos, heavy crops from the original A7 with the 70-200mm f4 @ 200mm. Sharp enough for me.

Surely it depends how big the final image needs to be, my old G1 gives lovely 100% crops and my A7 does too but bigger :D

Correct but its not just the high mega pixel count that matters for big cropping, you need a optically sharp lens to deliver the goods..... for example..... a heavy crop on the 70-200mm @ 200mm may still be noticeably sharper than the 70-300mm @ 300mm (native).

Had my first proper outing yesterday at Operation Overlord event with the 70-200 f/4 on my A7 body. Fantastic lens

Lovely shot and I see you focused where I would... on the gun. This reminds me of an old joke...

"I was at the front when the first shot was fired, I was in Gateshead when the second shot was fired." :D

There's a lot of talk using the Sony 70-200 f4 on the A7ii. Anyone used the Canon 70-200 f4 with adapter on the A7ii. Im so tempted at £300 used, im nervous about the focus speed. Apparently the lens is very sharp.

The Rumour site includes a Digitalrev review of the 24-70mm f2.8 GM...

"Kai from Digitalrev tested the new Sony 24-70mm GM lens and was very impressed by its performance (and less by its size). He says the lens is “its stupendously good”. But as Kai pointed out we really need a bigger body for those big GM lenses..."

Here's the link to the piece and video on the rumour site...

Experiments with Sigma MC-11 continue.
Another shoot done, this time in Leeds, UK

Sony A7RII + Sigma MC-11 + Canon EF 24-70 F/2.8L II - This combination is razor sharp (sometimes the focus is not very fast, especially in low light)

Detail is ridiculous in the right conditions, AF seems to suck though.

Yes me I have the none IS F4 and yes it's very sharp, focus is fine as long as you stick to .47 or .48 firmware on metabones don't do .49 or it locks the camera, well it did on the a7rii unsure of a7ii but prob same deal...nice cheap lens

Daffs by the stream, A7 and Minolta 50mm f1.2.

Colours through the trees. A7 and Minolta 50mm f1.2 again.

A similar shot but this time at a wide aperture. Same gear.

Meva's nice, I'm working their tomorrow :)

Do you know the area quite well? If not feel free to pick my (lack of) brains if you get a chance to get out with the camera.

Don't know it at all. Had to resist the temptation to book up near st Ives this time and explore some more. We are hoping to eventually move that way.

I will indeed be taking all my camera gear - so any tips on wear to go would be welcome :)

Shocking weather this morning in central london. I was gonna cycle to work....
You're not the only one suffering poor weather. It's like a winters day here, it's cold and we had the heating on this morning, it's windy and there's wet in the air and I can't even see the hills. There's just flat light and no sky just an endless grey nothingness. Anyone thinking this it atmospheric and would make a good photo wants to try living with this day afer day afer day after day. I was hoping for half a day free this week but if it stays like this I wont bother even thinking about a few hours out with my camera as I have any number of pictures taken on days like this.

Looking forward to summer which will probably mean some good weather between 14:00 and 14:15 one Tuesday afternoon in September.

Where do you live? I want to make sure I never go there.

I read a thread on another forum and they were enthusing about the dull flat special quality of light you get over a certain latitude... I forget what it was but I looked on a map and yup, that's where I live (not too far from Middlesbrough.)

The thing is that I'd probably love this in another part of the country / world but I'm just sick of it in my home area. As I said, I have too many dead light no sky pictures.

Back when I was working I was a complete workaholic and I had little interest in holidays but once I gave up work my first big trip was to Kazakhstan and I just couldn't believe the quality of the light, even indoors. Yes, dull flat dreariness is nice now and again but come on God, give me a nice day or some overcast moody light now and again not just this grey drizzling dreariness.
